Someone talk me down...

Do we even need to have this argument on an enthusiast site for a 10 year old Ford? Don't get me wrong, I love SVTs, and would have one if I knew it wouldn't spin a bearing before 200K miles. However, according to NADA, my 5000 with 217000 miles is worth $4200. A model year 2000 SVT with the same mileage (which SVTs have spun bearings before 100K..so 217K is purely laughable) is only worth $3700. So, what were you talking about?

Now, I understand that a Chevy/Ford owner would never understand the relationship with a classic Audi, and that's OK. My Audi is not for everybody, and not everyone will appreciate it. I wouldn't be caught dead in a Chevrolet save for a Tahoe or Suburban. To each his own. The wheels may not be the best looking things you've ever seen, but after seeing plenty of modified cars on here (many of which have mods worth more than the car itself) that's OK. Just on the next page there's a 4-cylinder auto-tragic Contour which can only be called "tastefully modified" by the likes of Helen Keller. I asked for an opnion, and that's what I got.

All cars are crap till you fix them up:shrug:

One question though... If you have such disdain for the Ford Contour, why are you posting on a Contour enthusiast web site?

I have no disdain for the Contour. It was a great car. I just have disdain for those who throw stones while living in glass houses. Now maybe if this were a Porsche site, it would be valid (though I'm a member of many Porsche sites and the majority love the T44 Audi). But since this is a site for a bland Ford sedan than the majority of people don't even care about, I find some responses humorous. I don't find my car ugly at all. Most people don't, considering it was the design inspiration for such cars as the '86 Taurus, and many modern design elements first appeared on the T44 100/200/5000.

Find me a T-Red/MNB E0 in good shape with low miles and sunroof for a decent price and I'd probably add that to my collection too

Was that supposed to be a slam? Let us know when anything you own comes close to it in performance. He's not the one putting wheels on a car that are worth more than it is. Let alone the ugliest wheels possibly ever made. Come back when you pick up some smare.

Actually someone slighted his car and I think he made a funny reply.
I really like/respect the performance of the new Cobalt SS but like the Neon SRT4 I still wouldn't own one.

Agreed. Yea it has good performance but there already a dime a dozen. I have seen at least 3-4 high school aged kids around my town driving them. IIRC didnt someone just pick up a new one up for under 15k?

I will say that he does bring up a good point. This forum is for cars that, on the average market, don't fetch over $5000. So telling him it's a waste of money to put expensive wheels on his car and then ragging on his car which would fetch the same market value as the CSVT...is very hypocritical.

Exactly which definition of "classic" are you using? :help:

Mark

I'm with you Mark. All I see is an old box and some of the ugliest wheels I've ever seen.

I'd chew a Contour owner's ass for the same thing.

Now, I'm off to go work on my old worthless SVT with big ass expensive wheels...

I've got a high-mileage one with issues I'll sell ya'! Sunroof works too! :D

FWIW, I've always loved the mid-'80s era Audis. Both the 4 and 5000. No judgement here. And the Cavalier quip made me LOL.

No thanks! I have enough "issues" on my fleet..I don't need anymore!

I love my old "Kraut Wagon." There's nothing quite like the solidity of an old German car. I test drove a '98 Mystique V6 5-speed back in the fall, 'cause I really would like to get another CDW27, and I was AMAZED at how cheap it felt. I thought they were higher-quality than that, at least I thought mine was! I opened the back doors and they made the most god-awful squeak I've ever heard. The doors themselves just felt thin and tinny, and the way everything fit together was just awful. Maybe it was just a dud, it only had 62K on the clock.

I just want my '95 back

I thought the wheels in the pics that were on your car looked decent... that or newer audi wheels would be sweet as I always like newer ford rims on an old ford. as long as they aren't those focus rims that look like they came from a saturn Ion those things are god awful.. and yes those queeky rear doors are anoying my 00 svt has them I've been meaning grease them up..

my uncle and vw fox station wagon back in the day... kinda boxy... my cousin had an 80s quatro.. but honestly I have no desire to own an Audi.. to each their own.....

and the contour is the best looking ford sedan of the era better than the taurus or escort.

and those rims were yuck....... I can't immagine a car they would look good on. sorry...
