Here is an email I just got. They are going to be joining the forum and answering questions here too. They stated in the email "We do not outsource". I again can send out the first one to get done if you guys want to see a finished product.
Also, guys, come up with more products you want too (brake kit!!!), I think they just might be interested!
Bill,
Sorry for the delay in response. I am following the Contour.org thread, and
as soon as my login is approved, I will post up there to answer questions
directly.
So you can better field questions from the Contour.org, here are a few
points of clarification.
My handle on SHOforum is SHOpartsNW. Kurt(NWGRN94MTX) and I started making
BBBs probably 6-7 years ago about the time when SHO Shop started having
problems. He did the CNC work and developed the tooling, and I helped Kurt
come up with the design for the butterfly plates. Since then, I do the
disassembly/reassembly, while Kurt does the CNC work. We have always built
our own BBBs; we do not outsource. We have continued to build other custom
parts which and we were a supplier to SHOnutperformance, MidwestSHO and
SHObros. This year, Kurt and I teamed up with Matt (LoudSHO92) to form SHO
Source, and we are still growing our business. We still sell to
SHOnutperformance (Josh), and he sells to us. Although we do drop ship some
components, we build a number of custom parts like the BBBs, custome
machined PBR caliper kits, multiple brake kits, and camber caster plates for
coilovers.
When we first started BBBs for the SHO, we had to cover our tooling costs,
so some of the first sets sold for $250-300. Since we started doing BBBs,
we have sold probably around 200-300 sets, so our tooling is now paid for,
and we have been able to drop our price back to $189. In the case of the
Contour, we will have to build up a cost estimate for new tooling. Group
buy pricing will depend on how many we can get in the first run. I think it
is definitely possible to make the product, and I know we can do a top
quality job. If we can get a stock set to take measurements from that would
be the first step. We will also need to finalize if you want both bores at
37mm, and if you want plates or other modifications.
Thanks for helping us our on the Contour side. If there are any other
products you want or can't get, let us know. We are growing SHO Source, and
plan to expand into other car platforms.
Let us know what your other questions are, and we will get back to you as
soon as we can.
Mike
