ive been looking around on the forums and google and didnt find anything on how to get your produtiion number on a no svt car/ has anyone done this before?

You'll just have to use your VIN code for that. Find out which numbers are for color, location, whatever and whats left should be like your build number.

Where it was made should be the first few digits. You'll probably have an M since chances are its Mexican made.

this is what i got from ford fleet thanks to pelle

I dont believe VIN numbers are in order of production, so the production sequence number really doesnt have anything to do with it.

Best you can do is e-mail ford customer relations and ask them for the total production of ford contours. Ford does not keep record of options, so you can subtract the total number of SVTs produced that year and then you have to use something like the statistics on autozone to estimate the number out of what is left that was equipped with the zetec or duratec, manual or automatic. They only keep records on the body style of vehicle produced. I went through this a while back when I was tallying production numbers on escorts.

Maybe if you did enough homework you could find out production numbers per month, find out what the days they were producing contours, and then estimate your production number based upon the date on your door. But that is the best you will do.

If they were available, I would have one already.......

Yours is easy. You have one of one eggplant, and one of one eggplant contrailer.

Speaking from my limited knowledge, research and my personal experience, even a "true production number" doesn't necessarily mean anything. I know with the Typhoon, Syclones and Sonoma GT's the production number doesn't mean it was the order the truck was made or came off the line. Just because my Ty is #2298 doesn't mean that #2297 was completed and rolled out before mine. It is on record that in fact this wasn't the case. Higher production # trucks rolled out sometimes hundreds of trucks before the respective lower production numbers did. FWIW

That too is true, strangely enough.

Only in very rare instances do the production #s actually mean what they should and are accurate. Like the last and first off the line. Those typically have pretty good tabs kept on them. I know in a lot of "rare and limited production" car runs, the first and last are put in collection, be it those of the Manufacture like the Heritage Collection @ GM, or private ones of executives and rare car collectors. Im sure some car companies that produce very limited runs of cars, non mass production, keep better accuracy of the production #s but even then....I'm very skeptical.

why would you need/want to find out the build number for a non-svt. more so when they dont have a specific build number?

and I can agree that vin number and a build number of a limited editions, numbered car don't always line up. Like with the Boss 429's. the highest surviving KK numbered 1969 car isn't the highest know vin number. most likely had something to do with how they went onto and came off the truck when sent to Kar Kraft for modification for the Mach 1 to become a Boss 429.

well you guys are nice and its little tid bits that are nice to know about your car if you like them that much. ya a couple of my other post went out there a way but it happens its a idea to be piched around with others some idea may work other may not. i know ford wont do anything they dont care but trying never hurt anyone
