i was going to be gutting the precats here soon since i just changed the o2s & its throwing the 420/430 code. but do i need to have this done b4 the tune is done or can i have the tune done 1st then gut them. would it make a difference if i do it after.
 
Yes it will make a difference. Gutting the precats has very similar effect to installing headers.
 
No need for MIL eliminators if you get a tune. CEL will come on because of the gutted precats, but then when you get the tune they will remove it.
 
ok so i can go ahead & gut them. i wont need the mils then.

& when u say they will remove them with the tune, will they just be resetting the CEL or removing it from the computer all together
 
I believe the tuner will "tune out" the rear oxygen sensors that are there to monitor the cats. This allows the car to run fine without tripping the CEL.
 
They will turn the stuff off in the tune completely, so once you return the tune back to stock you will have a CEL.
 
ok im gonna try & gut the precats this weekend. but if i dont get it done b4 the tune wed. can i still have the precats tuned out then gut them afterward
 
well im gonna get out there & try tomarrow. so then i just need to drop the 'Y' pipe, & stick something up the manifold & scrape the insides out. then the other i need to drill a hole & do the same rite. is that all. then they will tune it out when i go. is it going to be ok to drive for a few days with them gutted. b4 the tune with out mils.
 
Will be ok to drive. Don't forget that you need to have the hole you drill welded back up. I'd also suggest starting the car before you reconnect the Y pipe for a couple of minutes to make sure all the material is blown out.
 
you wont beable to scrape it iv tryied. you need a wood boring drill bit, that is about a foot long or so. and stick it in there and start drilling
 
ok. ya my brother in law is a welder, he said he can weld the hole for me. i was planning on running the car to blow that crap out b4 i put it back together.
 
Well went to do the gutting & it looks like they already been gutted. There wasnt anything in either of them. & while trying to drop the ”y” pipe i broke 2 of the studs & now i cant get them out. Also i hear what sounds to b a huge rock rattling around in yhe main cat.
