Yeah, real funny until you read the guy had a handgun out with the safety off, everyone was pretty bummed out about this I see:rolleyes: Sucks its only one or two guys who went over to talk to the guy with the bike too. This could've been worse, alot worse. Nice back up by everyone, funny that I'm the only one to step up and tell the guy not to come back too! I for one think this is VERY serious!
 
Wow, drama! Pretty poopie situation all around though. I would just take this as a sign to not go posting your run around on a bunch of forums with people you don't really know. Quality > quantity considering this is a vacation for a lot of people.

All of that aside it sounds like people had a good time. I hate that I have only been once :(

You made your point, let it go. He won't be back, and has been set as an example.
 
I say enough of the alero sucking up our attention.
I had one hell of a time. I loved every second. From the driving to the company.

Got home around 7:30.

I pushed my Tour pretty hard this weekend. She had a few bugs but were taken care of with some help from my friends (fellow Dragon Slayers). First, one of my wheels came loose.:blackeye: Bob stopped and gave me a hand. Second, on the way home the NPG caliper mounts came loose.:wtf: The passenger side lost a bolt and spacer on 64. Lucky for me Hector and Jerry (Evo) were there. Jerry and his wife Erin drove me to the local hardware store while Hector kept an eye on the car. As far as I was pushing the car (tiring to keep up with Evo, speed 3s and modded S2000s) I was very lucky it happen after the Dragon run. Next time all caliper brackets get lock washers, loctite, and safety wired. I had cranked on them a few days before but they must have came loose with all the braking being done. I'm very proud of my little CSVT :).

Everyone there was great. We all had a good time driving and eating then driving and eating and eating. I don't think I ever ate that much in such a short amount of time. Then a few of us went back to the cabins to.....grill and eat some more. Sitting around the camp fire waiting for smelly bears or hungry chupacabras to come and eat us was great. There is no better group of people that I would like to be eaten with. <--- not sure it that makes sense. :crazy:

I'm a little sore from sitting on my a$$. It was well worth it!

Will I be there next year? HELL YEAH!
 
Matt, glad to hear you got everything figured out with the caliper. Hector had called me asking about the best way for you guys to get back to car and told me what had happened. I was all set to make a call and get a truck and trailer to you and get the car to someplace like my house to work on it if it was needed.
 
We got home early this morning & then slept all day. (We'd driven on TN 68, just sight-seeing, and then gone horse-back riding again before starting home.) Safe, uneventful overnight drive home.

I'm sorry our group had a situation like that on Friday - very unusual for CEG Dragon runs. I hope no-one will let it discourage them from coming next year.

We had a lot of fun, tried to do too much in 3 days! We're already planning on more time off next year ;).
 
I think I would like to take some time to shoot my thoughts. The drive there being around 15 hours because we stopped to meet up with people and stuff was long. The drive home was only 12 hours, not bad.

This was my first time at the Dragon. I will say I can't think of anytime in my life I had a better time. Driving the Dragon was not exactly what I thought it would be. It is even better then i thought it would be. I was surprised I did pretty well for my first time. Knowing your limits I think is the first step to driving on it, and second is not letting anyone that can drive it better then you make you feel you have to push it to the next level. I did what I felt comfortable with, and pushed it a few times to find out where the car wanted to be.

The time around the fire and the cabins was awesome though. The people I met were great. You can't beat the times we had because we were all there to do what we love doing. You meet a lot of people in life, but not many that all enjoy what you do. It was great to grill one night, and just talk about random shi.t.

The last night Chad and I sort of hung with Jerry and Aaron, and also Austin from my other forum S2ki. I twas a great time trying to fin new ways back to the cabin

I will be attending the Dragon twice a year now. I couldn't see anything else really making me as happy as it did. If anyone wants to go in the spring/early summer let me know. I am going to be getting the S ready for that.

maybe for you guys up north, but here in the south guns are no big deal. Heck, I have a loaded gun within arms reach of me as I type.

I also understand not to take the internet seriously. This guy used the phrase "loss of lateral friction" to describe driving like an ass. I would assume the same kind of guy would also be an e-thug and post that he was just about to "bust a cap in his ass" so it wouldn't look like he was running away like a scared •••••. I can understand initially running away from a •••• load of bikers, but I would have come back or radioed for someone to be a mediator while he apologized.

I am glad you and Jerry went to talk to him, but it is not my place to get involved in stuff I didn't witness. All I have to go on is what Joe told me (I believe Joe by the way). There is no reason for me to get involved. It was nice of you to buy the guy a beer and for Jerry to give him a cigarette, just don't expect everyone to go and give the biker a hug. The guy was out having a good time riding his bike just like we were in our cars. It is a public road and we all assume risks, especially when we all go to drive on a road that everybody treats like their own personal race track. If I were the biker I would get mad at the guy who almost hit me, I would be grateful if one or two guys from the group said sorry and bought me a beer, but I wouldn't believe that I was owed any attention from anyone other than the guy who almost hit me.

I guess I just don't see the point of making a big deal of this. Everyone turned out alright and the alero guy got his punishment. 1. He drove 10 hours one way to make an ass of himself and not have fun on the dragon and 2. He still has to drive an alero with no front bumper.

I didn't take I-64 over to Louisville on the trip back, otherwise I would have probably seen you and stopped too. Since I was meeting my sister for supper on the north side of Indy, it was actually shorter/quicker (by 5 miles/5 minutes) to take I-75 all the way up to Cincinnati and then get on I-74 over to Indy before taking I-465 around to the north side.

I too had a good time. It was my first time at the dragon but I had been on the skyway once before back in 2000. It was a little sad to not be able to enjoy the dragon as much on Saturday due to the extra traffic and certain watchful eyes, but the alternate routes we took were enjoyable (even though Matt and I had already done route 28 all the way to 143 and back while everyone else was at the Dam...). I also feel a little spoiled in that I got to enjoy some bonus time that others did not, with the second pass on the dragon at night, solo, on Friday as well as a certain stretch of US 321/TN 73 between Townsend and Wears Valley that I took each night on the way to Pigeon Forge. Even though my accomodations were 90 mins away from the cabins, I tried my best to be part of whatever group I could whenever there was something going on, except for breakfast.

And finally, I was trying to get my brother in law to come with me in his vette convertable, but he was not able to. In hindsight it is probably best he did not join us because we would have put him in a bad situation. He is a member of the Illinois State Police and would have had to make a choice between being with the group doing things that pushed what is allowed and just doing his own thing. I'm glad I didn't put him in a situation where he had to choose.

All in all, I had a good time and would go again.
 
This is what I like to see. Everyone had a great time and wants to come back. The same reason I've enjoyed this trip 5 times out of the 8 years running!

Great times great people. I can't say it any better!
 
This trip was more fun than last year and I am looking forward to the next. I am sad to see that Billy posted in the other thread that he might not even come next year. I suggest we make some changes to ensure that this trip remains an enjoyable yearly tradition we can all look forward to.

Next years run can be the SAVE THE DRAMA FOR YOUR MAMA 2011 FALL DRAGON RUN.

Things to consider:

1. Various pace groups: maybe a Noob, moderate, and fast group each led by one of us veterans. The noob group gets the rules and takes a slower pace stopping for pictures or whatever. All first timers do at least one run in the noob group if they have never driven on roads like this. Once noobs feel comfortable with their car on the road, they can move up to the moderate or fast group. Moderate and fast groups will have people who have been out there before and already know the pace they want to run.

2. no 10/10ths driving, this is not a race track: You only have your lane and there is no safe space to run off to if you screw up. Drive at a pace that ensures you do not end up in a ditch or cliff to your right or into oncoming traffic to your left.

3. Don't drive like an ass: if you drive like a dumb ass you will be ditched. The red honda fit guy was driving stupid (I heard, and didn't see), so when he took off to do another dragon run everybody hopped in their car and went the other direction without telling him.

4. Don't ask don't tell gun policy: Feel free to bring a gun if you have the legal right to carry it, and make sure to conceal it. Nobody asks you if you have a gun, and you don't tell anyone you have a gun. Some folks in our group are sensitive about guns, so gun carriers will respect them by keeping their self defense private. Gun haters will respect the gun carriers 2nd amendment right to bear arms and not ask people if they are carrying, not tell people that they can't carry, and keep their gun opinions to themselves.

5. Have a good time!
