"THE" Official 2010 Fall Dragon Run...Oct 7th thru 10th!

Who's SVT in the driveway Marge?

Cabin #8 is trying to be booked up right now, but the guy from xceedspeed had to leave a message. I told him to keep trying because Dixie called me on Sunday pretty late, so keep trying and besides, its business, right.

I've been thinking about the food situation from last year too and came up with this. I know everyone doesn't wanna eat at the Tellica Cafe' for dinner every night, Thursday and Saturday is enough, but there's that Pizza place on 165 and we can try the breakfast place for dinner, haven't done that yet, I bet its real good!!! Some of our noobs out there are younger and on a budget and I want them to know that its ok to hit Hardee's or the Subway across from the Hardee's. Noone is going to think less of anyone for doing this, just wanna throw this out to "break the ice". Everyone has a budget and whatever you've gotta do to get there and enjoy the run and our company.....DO IT!

Also, I talked to Hectour last night and it appears that Jerry and his wife are coming and they're getting a tent. Just waiting on Hectour to add car #28 to the list, CAR NUMBER TWENTY EIGHT!

Why don't we plan to do some sort of campfire dinner. We can set up a fire and cook hot dogs and brats. This would be cheap, different and fun. anybody interested?

I think we could do burgers and steaks if we could come up with a way to have a makeshift grill. The only idea I have so far is a hobo grill. Flip a shopping cart on its side, build a fire inside it, and cook your food on the other side.

This hobo grill has inspired me. We could use the oven racks from the cabins as a grill to cook meat on. If we all chip in and make a grocery run we could have a campfire steak dinner.

I should have some camp fire grills that you guys could borrow. I will double check tomorrow, but they should be in the basement. I have used them for everything from basic hot dogs, to steaks. I also have a couple camp fire dutch ovens and cook books for them you could borrow for making cobbler (whatever flavor you want) and biscuits as well as all kinds of other things.

First off, let me say I am sorry. :-)

My dad instilled in me certain capabilities (obsessive compulsions?) for navigation from our days when we flew together. As such, I am usually pretty good at backwards planning a trip to ensure arrival at a certain place within a specified window. The two of us were good enough at it that back in the early 90's before either of us had cell phones, we both happened to be traveling to Florida on seperate trips... I left from Downers Grove, outside Chicago, with my girlfriend and he left from Peoria, IL with my step mom. Our paths would not cross until we were both on I-24 in Nashville, heading toward Chattanooga. We agreed we would pull off at the rest area at the top of the mountain on I-24 near Monteagle, TN, targeting a certain time that we thought we would be going through there, and wait about 10 mins for the other before continuing with our trips. If we happened to meet up, great. If not, oh well. We met. I beat him there by about 5 mins. It is all his fault he did this to me. :-) ...oh, and you gave me way too much time to think about this. :-)

Here's our simple plans for the extended weekend:

-Thursday (around 4:30-5:00 p.m.) the majority of the group will arrive.

Ok, so if this is the window we want to use.... we need to account for any other meeting points... such as: those of us from IL meeting with the group from Michigan on I-75 somewhere in the Lexington/Richmond area... and the lunch in Louisville...

It looks like the travel time from Lexington to the cabins is under 4 hrs, maybe 3:45 depending on traffic/construction. This means we should be leaving Lexington as a group around 1:00, or if the meet is in Richmond, around 1:30, to make it to the cabins about 4:45 - 5:00

To make it to Lexington or Richmond in that time frame, those of us from IL should be leaving the restaurant in Louisville by 12:00 because it looks like it takes about an hour to get to Lexington or an hour and a half to a BWW just off the interstate in Richmond (depending on where we are meeting - perhaps the MI crew would want to eat lunch there or somewhere else and wait for us?)

If we are not planning to be at the restaurant in Louisville until 11:30-ish, that does not leave much time for lunch and small talk before departing by 12. Depending on the restaurant, it may be plenty of time or not even close. I'll let someone else figure that out since I am not familiar with the establishment.

We also have these things to pay attention to:
http://511.ky.gov/main.jsf
Road construction near Louisville on I-64 between mile 19 and 28... we can avoid most of this by heading east on US60 from the restaurant for a ways before getting on I-64 at Exit 28...

Road construction on I-75 near London, KY (might be done this week?)

...and for those coming down I-75 to Lexington, just before you get to I-64 there is this advisory.....
I-75: Horse show.
between Exit 120: KY 1973; Ironworks Pike and Mile Point 120 in Fayette County. There is a horse show. Look out for traffic congestion. Until October 10.
Comment: Expect traffic congestion on Ironworks Pike and on I-75 at Exit 120 and at the I-64 interchange at the 118 mile marker..

Tennessee's road construction site shows I-75 is clear for now...

Again, I am sorry I have this disorder.. :-)

let me put some info in here about the roads and times in Kentucky. I actually just drove from Knoxville back to La Grange today and it took about 3.5 hours (that included one stop at a rest stop). now La Grange is about 20 minutes north of Shelbyville and I get off of I64 at exit 35. so to Knoxville from the restaurant will be a little bit shorter than that since it takes about the same time to go into I265 and up to I71 then back out to La Grange as it does to just get off at Shelbyville.

plan on 45 minutes to an hour for the restaurant. they are normally pretty quick but with all of us going in at the same time it will take a little bit longer. from there, its about 50 minutes to an hour (depending on speed and traffic, isnt much traffic normally) to I75 in Lexington. The construction on I64 doesnt normally cause issues during the middle of the day.

For the construction on I75 near London, the signs are still there, but there are no lanes closed and I didnt even see any equipment in either direction. I kept the cruise at ~75 the whole way through.

any other questions regarding the roads in Kentucky?

Thanks for the update Dan. Your travel time is not far off what I was coming up with, considering the cabins are another 50 miles or so past Knoxville that tacks on nearly an hour to your 3.5 hour drive. I may have had an extra 15 or 20 minutes in there. Good to hear construction should not be too bad. Now I need to get ahold of my sister that lives in Indy about the construction there that I know is bad on the west side of town.

I'll be bringing my weber grill, and i do plan on cooking a steak and maybe a potato for myself. So, if anyone wants to throw a couple dogs, brats, or what ever on i wont mind a bit.

Also.

(depending on where we are meeting - perhaps the MI crew would want to eat lunch there or somewhere else and wait for us?)

What are we doing about that, we just going to be stopping in Lexington, and get lunch while we wait? I'm sure Derek knows more about what is going on. I'm just going to play follow the leader.

So the BAD news begins...... the sway bar end links are a ••••• but I am getting those off, found out my lowrer control arm bushing is shot... and I need a whole new arm since they don't have bushings for it. 230.00 for it, and I just had a damn alignment. We'll see how this pans out.

$230 sounds so cheap for me. lol. my front LCAs are $400 each.

Well I'm headed up to Atlanta now for some of the best road racing around and then up to Tennessee for some of the best driving roads around! I'll see you guys next week.

Just got a Cabin secured.

You got lucky Jerry, cabin #8? If so, someone from xceedspeed tried getting that cabin twice yesterday, even into the evening. That cabin has 2 beds, too bad you don't have another car to come along with you.

Billy, you driving on that race track?

ONE WEEK TO GO AND FOR SOME OF US, EVEN LESS THAN THAT, LUCKY GUYS!

Man I paid 20 bucks for a new-to-me LCA with a steering knuckle and ball joint attached. Your new fangled cars are too complicated. $350 would pick up a pair of indestructable, adjustable, greasable, brand new, warrantied LCA's.

Still I'd gladly trade the 86 for the woes of an AP1.

As for the cookout, we did that once several years ago and it went great. We had about 8-10 cars crammed into the yard of our cabin outside Robbinsville, and it was great. We even had a makeshift rally stage. I'd be all for doing that on Saturday.

Like the idea Randy!

I second that!

I know as much as you, there is always so much here to read with Roger and his novel posts that I forgot what is what half the time, haaa!! I kid, I kid! I am not even sure where you got this quote or who wrote it:
depending on where we are meeting - perhaps the MI crew would want to eat lunch there or somewhere else and wait for us?
Playing follow the leader is fine since we are a straight shot down 75 for most of the trip. Roger and I will be talking this weekend finalizing our plans for a meeting spot and such. :D
