Spring Zing 2010

Not sure what I'm doing just yet since it's only a 2 hour drive. I'll be there for the GLD thursday night but not sure about Friday but back Saturday. Maybe I'll split a room with some one...don't know yet.

i would love to go but i cant see myself driving 16 hours. hopefully next year will be closer.

Never really gets much closer than Michigan....

Personally, I may be out due to financial reasons. I don't think I can swallow the cost at the moment, considering registration, airfare, and beer. :(

I think some of the newer people need to know that Spring Zing is a midwest thing. It was born in Missouri, and has been in Michigan, Indiana, and now Wisconsin. There was an attempt to have it in Nebraska, but the event was cancelled due to low interest. This isn't a law or anything, it's just how things have played out over the years. It would take a lot of effort and some luck to have the event west of the Mississippi. Maybe it could be moved south, but there never seems to be a strong enough contingent of CEGers to make that happen.

No one has directly come out and said this, but I get the feeling that the Michiganders who organized SZ over the last three events got burned out. Most of the events I've attended were organized by one person, and I could definitely see how that could drive you nuts. Between my job and my family I can say SZ would be in jeopardy if it wasn't for having two people doing it.

Scratch beer from the list.

I agree hetfield. However, I think if we came a bit more east, it would also be very effective. I bet a Cleveland of Pittsburgh SZ would generate lots of interest. The only thing is that we need to have people nearby the proposed location to scope things out and be familiar with the area to be able to come up with good SZ events.

You could always break the drive up and stop somewhere midway. Maybe even find someone to let you crash their place for the night to save on costs.
We did that last year and it worked out really well.

Can you afford a large dog carrier? Just have fbc2 and Cobra put you on the plane with them as a pet:laugh:

HAHA! Nice. Well I had started saving money, but it's difficult. I'm paying off my students loans, and it's tough to do on my current income. I have some wiggle room, but I'll have much more important large expenses come the next few months. :(

Additionally, my gf and I are looking at investing $10 a week, each of us, either into a joint back account, or something else, so we have money in the future. Not sure yet.

a joint account is a bad idea, imho, unless your married. just save your own money for the future. Have a predetermined amount taken from your paycheck and have it desposited into a savings account that you don't use. I'm doing this and it works well to force one to save since you don't have to think about it.

Cleveland/Akron is really a decent location......Dyno, Drag strip, road course, all can be found within an hour from downtown. Crawford automotive museum (home of several stainless steel bodied fords), mentor museum of speed, summit racing equipment, etc.

Well, if you knew the relationship my gf and I have, then you might understand. Regardless, I'm just expressing my financial burdens as to why SZ is unlikely for me this year. Besides, I'd be flying, so we wouldn't be able to tool around in the grape on the track.

Malcolm, maybe you should organize next year's SZ. Sound good? :D

except theres nothing to do during the day! theres an 1/8th mile drag strip, and a dyno. thats it. no road course, no back roads to go on a nice cruise. there is a kick ass go-kart track though!

You are a noob. Letchworth Park? Leicester [Empire] Speedway? SCCA/ECC North Autocross events? Niagara Falls? Buffalo Food - not to mention the bars? I was half joking about it but had to respond to your noobness lol..
