Car is running fine but it won't go forward or backward while in any gear. Speedo will climb up as I go up in RPM's but car does not move forward. Any ideas as to what has happened? Axel? Shift Cable?

hmmm. if ur speedo is going up, then it isnt the shift cables. if its the axles, u should hear some noises from that direction.

drivers side axel appears to be broken. Boot is slightly twisted on itself and you can shake the axel around. Crap. Pud told me to drive it properly. LOL Just to make sure there isn't something else, when I have it in 1st I can take my foot off the clutch, not touch the gas and it won't die....is that normal for a broken axle?

if u can shake the axle around with the wheels on the ground, then u might have found ur problem. not sure about the car not stalling thing tho.

Easy to replace as well. Basic tools needed only. Unless you can't get the axle out of the tranny, then you might need one of those slider thing-a-ma-jingers

got a new drivers side a few weeks ago for the 3l car for like 60-70. pop it out of the trans and throw the new one in til it clips then top your fluid back off. not bad to do really.

anyone have a parts number on this thing?

Edit. called ford, they said the part has been discontinued. WTF?

I don't think Ford sells the entire axle anymore, last time I checked they did sell it piece by piece though.

I would look into a Napa axle (supposed to be better than OEM), if you're trying to find one locally. It's not too bad of a project to pull an axle. You will lose some tranny fluid on the driver side axle unless you drain it first. Make sure you don't damage the axle seal in the tranny :)

well you need a 32mm socket for the axle nut, so I wouldn't call that basic tools ...

you will need a slide hammer to get the drivers axle out of the tranmission.

I just called them, they said they can get one for me tomorrow but I can't get the core charge since it is snapped. Total $166.02 :blackeye:
Oh yeah, what procautions should take to not damage the seal?
And what is Steves number at Tousley?

Just make sure you push the axle in straight and carefully. 651-484-8888

Pretty sure that'd be more than $160 though.
