Ready for the snow?

Wound up with about 30". You walk down the front steps to be greeted with a beautiful side view of a 9' tall snow pile. My foot feels GREAT! :rolleyes: We had to call in a local guy I know to plow for us. His lifted Cummins with plenty of power upgrades and an 8.5' Fisher got stuck several times, but we got it done. We had another 2 hours of shoveling to do after he left, there was stuff he just couldn't move without risking damage to the house or cars.
 
I destroyed the bumper on my Bimmer. I spun it into a snow bank in my old high school parking lot and punched a hole right through it. :laugh:

The good news is, I didn't get stuck once with the snow tires on. :)
 
i am so sick of this snow!
and we are supposed to get more this week.
i have no place to put it anymore and this weekend resulted in a nice big dent in the bed side of my truck
thursday night i had to run out to Lowes, and when i was pulling the truck around from out back (the path is now very narrow due to snow) the back wheels hit some ice and the truck slid to the right slamming into the shed.
grrrr
luckily, i was able to get it off the building without doing anymore damage beyond the vertical crease over the wheel well.
at least its in a spot that i can access from the back and should be able to hammer it out.
and since we got another 6 inches on friday, the truck is pretty much stuck out back until it melts.

I normally don't mind the snow at all but I am done and sick of it at this point. For the last week I have been outside moving snow, just about every day. This has mostly been getting snow off the roof with a roof rake. All because I now have a leak, that is dripping all the way down to the basement. Seems to have stopped for now. Also the single state, 2-cycle snow blower I have just isn't cutting it anymore. It throws the snow at the snow along the driveway and not over. However I just got one of the four Snowbird snowblowers my father had up to my house. Getting a new drive belt this afternoon and after that it appears ready to go. Worked well yesterday, but the belt was old and it snapped as I was clearing a path around the garge into the back yard.
 
i have often thought about picking up one of those large propane torches and doing just that...
melt it all, but then i would have to spread a boat load of salt.
haha
well, i guess on the pavement i could torch it until it evaporated.

i did have to break out the small propane torch to fix my neighbors tire on her snowblower.
she blew the tire off the bead and it wouldnt re-seat because of a bunch of ice on the rim and tire.
a few minutes with the torch, a ratchet strap and the air compressor...all fixed.
 
I'm sick of it too. The parking lot at my condo is a mess. They normally do a great job when they plow but they aren't pushing the snow far enough and now they can't do anything because it's piled up too high to move. The visitors spots are half the size so when someone parks in them, I can't get my car in and out of my spot easily. The sun barely ever hits the pavement because of the way the buildings are layed out so nothing is melting. It's just covered with packed down snow and ice. :mad:
 
yeah ... my town plowed about 3 to 4 feet from the end of the driveway on my street. They where not much closer on the other side so the street is narrowing down. with people parking in the street its down to about one lane now.

Heating Torch
I was going to get one to help melt the ice on my roof, but was informed by my father that it wasn't a good idea with the asphault shingles.

we actually did the engine upgrade the winter before this one. That's why last winter was much milder.
Mike has been blowing through these storms with a grin on his face. Well sometimes he hits tough spots. The snowbanks are getting too high to blow snow over now.
 
I contemplated ripping out my new driveway to install a heated driveway setup, that would solve so many "snow" related issues....... You guys have it way worse, have fun :D.
 
We have frost on the inside of our building today. Currently its 20 degrees at the far end of my building here at work. That is on the inside (I work in a warehouse). The other end right outside my office is 32 degrees. It was so cold here this morning that there is frost on the inside of the exterior doors. Also we use water on the inside of the building, and can only use water towards the hotter side of the building. This is just nuts

doh, didn't remember that :crazy:. yeah the snow banks are to high for my little single stage, 2-cycle snow blower to get the snow over. glad I got one of my fathers spare snow blowers, cost of a few parts is much better then the cost of a new one, if i would be able to find any. Lowes and Home Depot online said they where pretty much sold out in store or on-line.

Ok, people seriously need to learn how to drive in snow. They can live in New England their whole lives and still not make it from point A to B without it turning into a huge ordeal. The traffic this morning was unbelievable for nothing but a dusting.

Oh, I agree on the turns, but on sections that are completely straight going 25-30 MPH or even crawling in 1st gear at 10 MPH through a turn on the highway. It's a little crazy. Everytime I got up to speed and came into a turn, I slowed down gradually. Snow tires or not, the turns don't take much to spin out.

I'm just amazed at people on the straight sections.
 
the worst part of my commute this morning at 6 am was my frozen washer nozzles!
not a lot of trafffic except for the occasional moron in an SUV flying by at about 70.


really not looking forward to the snow tomorrow.
maybe i should put my snow tires on...then the snow will go away since i willbe ready for it!
