Take the good with the bad I guess. When you buy body kits for cars, how often are they a perfect fit without needing extra work done to it? You can't expect perfection from something like this.

Hence why I suggested using a rubber edging in Ooklah's picture thread.

thats actually a really good idea. know where we can buy some?

thank you. i mean, unless we're willing to pay $3k a piece for these things like the AMG guys do, i dont think we're going to be able to demand perfection. they would have to be hand made HERE, using an actual car for fitment with lots of trial and error. easy to say but that takes time and money. which is why they charge so much. and that would be with more production than what we're doing here. we really are lucky that ED is willing to even do these for us, let alone redoing them. im sure its because pete has personally known the owner for 10 years or so. theyre used to mass producing parts. if we were asking for that, than we'd be able to push more weight around. after the redo, theyre probably going to barely making anything off this if not just break even. and im sure they dont believe that we'll continue ordering these well into the hundreds. id be amazed if we even reached 100 splitters in the next 10 years.

Thanks Steve!

Any of us who've had an original Mirko and who've seen the pictures in this thread can attest to the fact that the ED part fits much better! In fact, even the first batch of "rejects" fit better!

Thanks, DT.

You're welcome man. I'm not even involved in any kind of transaction for one of these for obvious reasons, and I can completely respect you for the hoops you've gone thorugh and stress to make this happen.

As for the rubber trim, I just know Toyota uses it on the first gen Scion xB's for their side skirts...I don't even know the part number for it to even get an idea of where you might acquire something similar.

^ I know our CF version is delayed. But I will NOT like to see this on the CF version. Especially with the finish and such as we will not have an option to fix for paint.

It's used on almost every Toyota/Scion/Lexus with factory ground effects. When I had my IS300 and was on the hunt for factory L-Tuned parts (discontinued performance parts for the IS300), I found a lot of guys on the forums replacing the side skirt gaskets with some from a Scion or Celica. My friend has an 05 Corolla S with the same type of gaskets. It's all just a matter of finding one in the correct length and shape. They are molded to match the ground effects so it may not work for us.

If it's one thing I know, a good portion of the members on this forum have a lot of ingenuity when it comes to making something work for the application they're tackling. I wasn't exactly saying to buy the Toyota part, I was merely stating an idea that crossed my mind.

Copied from CSVT#49's fitment thread:

The fitment looks bad.

I personally think that ED should NOT have made the choice to put these into production. It was simple at that point to put 2-3 ED Mirko's on a container and send it to the US for fitment and we could give them the go to start the production process (why would someone have to fly out to China to verify fitment < idiotic. Might as well bring your car with you in the belly of the 747). CSVT#49 shows several flaws which are at some point just as bad as the original mirko and the lil "nub" in the driver side will show extra for people who will be using Pole120's Skid plates. I have 2, one for the Carbon Creations Mirko and one for my original Mirko. The driver side will obviously expose more of the skidplate, showing the flaw.

As for the minor repairs this can easily be done with the duraflex splitters.
This "may" be fixed for the ED Mirkos but what about the carbon Mirkos? What can we do? This is a lot of money that has been put down for this.

It is the END of the car SEASON for the majority. Why do we need these Mirko's now? Im sure everyone here would happily wait for a better product to receive in great condition/fitment/etc. at the end of winter/early spring.

ED has made the decision with our money before asking us for the go ahead. I would have them redo their mirko mold to fix these issues.

I also have no problem with spending the money for the carbon version. The carbon version will NOT be modifiable. I cannot trim here or there without ruining it. So they will have to fix the mold regardless.

ED should fix the issues with the mold as it was there decision and "assured" us we would get a great fitting product which is not the case.

I personally say this is a no go for anybody especially after putting the money down and patiently waiting. Im willing to wait another couple months as previously stated.

amyn,
we will certainly do our best to ensure that the CF splitters are spot on since you cant modify/prep them. and if they end up where they just cant, we'll get you a refund. you will not lose a dime on this. but of course, we hope we can pull through for both of you CF buyers.

Well Steve is this the hold on to your $$$ + shiping $$$, till we see what really is going to happen on fixing the problems the other CEG'ers are talking about on the all new and improved splitter or.... let me know on CEG or send me a PM. Thank You again for putting all your effort into this, but as we all can agree on - atleast me; It's not a Cadillac we are dealing with, but I treat it like one and would want as close as possible - a good fit. I know nobody is perfect. Thank you

So... What's the deal? I'd be just as happy to get mine the way it is rather than wait several more months for a slightly-better version. I think it fits alright, maybe with small modification it will fit great. It was Ooklah who already got his right? Ooklah could you do some quick experimentation with making yours fit more closely to the bumper and see what you can come up with? What if you put a small quarter-inch or half-inch spacer where the screw goes, inside the wheel-well, between the back lip of the bumper and the Mirko, so that it would pull the front area more tightly against the front of the bumper? See what I'm saying?

Additionally, keep in mind that Ooklah's splitter is a different color than his car in his pics; I bet a black splitter on a black car would make the slight fitment issue practically invisible.

Ooklah if you're not willing to try that spacer mod, could I just get mine shipped to me? And I'll try it as the guinea pig. I bet I can finagle something. I'm all paid up.

Clearly you didn't read my post

It's been done already. Steve is going to work with ED with potentially his car and they are going to reposition the wrap around pieces to better align with the bumper. As well as fixing the other issues I had found. Putting in spacers is a band-aid and will look like crap.

So we're looking at better Mirkos and, what, another 4-6 months to get them modified, redesigned, re-manufactured, and re-shipped overseas..? Just wondering since I'll be relocating to San Diego eventually, meaning a shipping-address change for me.

Not only would the current wrap around look like crap with a spacer, but the tires would probably rub it. Just be patient... I don't think we'll know when the next revision would be available until ED can check out the splitter on a car.

Yeah Mike's write up is way more detailed than mine ever could have been. I did mount it on my black car to get pictures but my bumper is tweaked on that car so fitment is even worse.

Sigh... I guess it's worth waiting for a perfect fit. No point in having a mis-shapen Mirko on my car all winter anyway. When can we find out a time-frame?

A practical answer was already supplied.

What ever happened to deciding on sending the splitters back? Or we just are going to settle with what has been produced? Just wondering?
Svt4stv I still need to send my the other half of $$$ that why I was asking.
Thanks.

Well it was decided... here's Pete's quote from my thread in the pics and vids forum...

Ok talked to ED looks like they should be able to take someone in next week, so if someone can take their car in let me know. They didn't get me an exact date, but they said sometime next week would work for them. Let me know if one of you guy's can go down there. Thanks.

So last I heard they were looking for someone to bring their car in.
