Hey guy's. I cant speak for Steve, but im sure he is busy. I spoke to ED last week, sorry I havent kept you guys posted (Im extremely busy as well) You guy's are not getting ripped off, trust me. You have to remember Steve has money in this as well as he paid for the new mold.

From what I was told and I did get a bit upset about was they are making a lip out of the old mold or may have just done it so they can ship the mold and lip back to us (to Steve) I was told the mold should have been back already. I am going to e-mail the owner over at ED and try to see what's going on. This is taking WAY longer than it should be. I will see hwat the owner can tell me, and see if he can get them to move a bit faster.

Hi Pete, thanks for updating us. However what you have told us has me concerned a lot. The whole point of making a new mold was to fix all of the fitment issues with the Mirko mold. If they just made a part from the Mirko mold to create a new mold... they are going to have ALL of the same fitment issues. Not only that but the Mirko mold created very rough finished edges on the back edge of the part as well, which needed to be fixed before installing it. Hopefully that aspect of it should be fixed since the new design is supposed to have a wrap around design so we can bolt in the new splitter in the wheel well. If you can please ensure that they are designing this feature in as this is the ONLY reason why I signed up for this GB. As I already have one of the old fiberglass Mirko splitters and I do not need the all the same issues in duraflex. Thanks again.

Mike,

I guess I should have made myself more clear but good catch. They are basically just using the Mirko that they will make as a guide so to speak. They are making a new mold, but they want to be able to compare the 2 when done. They have the factory bumper there, so fitment should be really good. As mentioned before we will get them made and have one flown over here to get it test fitted on Steves car. Once that happens if we are happy with the fit we will then give them the green light to start producing them. Steve indicated he needs the mold and the Mirko splitter we sent over which is why they produced one so they can ship that stuff back. Trust me, I am very picky with whatever I have them build me, lol I think I even piss them off over there. I've had parts redone 2-3 times until I liked it, so now they know to get a hold of me and get approval first.

It will wrap around the fenders and I will get them to make it as smooth and uniform as possible. They assured me it would be alot nicer than the Mirko, so I will hold them to that. You guys can feel free to contact me as well if you need an update, with everything I have going on sometimes I forget to update you guys, even if I do have one. My e-mail is pete@corvettecreationz.com Thanks

Pete

Well figure I'd stop on in here and bring this to the top... any updates on the progress of the new mold and parts? Have they pumped out a prototype yet?

Hey guy's I got word today that the parts should be at the warehouse in Fullerton on the 28th of July. I will see if I can get pix asap of the finished pieces, they should have something for me soon. I will post as soon as I get them. Thanks

Pete

Hi Pete. When you say parts, are you referring to the original mold and mirko splitter that you sent over.. or did they already produce a new style wrap around splitter prototype for you to review?? I'm guessing it's a prototype as I'm not sure why you would want to take pictures of the old stuff . If so this is great news. I'm excited to see the prototype. Thanks again for keeping us updated.

Lol, no I mean the new revised Mirko that wraps around the bumper. I asked if they had planned on test fitting one as we had originally talked about (sending one air freight) they said the feel very comfortable about them fitting very well as is since we have the OEM bumper over there. They said if we wanted we could still do that as an option, but think there is no need to. They told me if there were to be any issues they would tweak it and get them remade, on them ofcourse. They are just trying to get them here asap as you guys have already waited a long time. I told him "if your sure they will fit well, i'll leave it up to you" and they said we're almost positive it will fit great. If we air freight one now, it would be late Aug before we get them. I would say let's see what they come up with as far as fit and go from there. They will be getting me pix soon. As soon as they do I will post them up. Thanks guys.

Well my concern would be that there are lower brackets to push the bottom of the bumper out from the frame. This is done to ensure the bumper lines up with the fender and maintains form. if they fit the splitter to a static bumper off a car... It may not be the best representation of a bumper installed on a car. However that said maybe there is enough flex in these new splitters to compensate for this?? Not sure which is why I thought I should bring it up.

EDIT: I guess one more thing to add would be, we all have waited this long to get our splitters... personally if I had to wait another 2 months for perfection and the peace of mind that it would fit great, I personally wouldn't be worried about it. However if they say if there are fitment issues and they are willing to remake them on their bills... then I'm fine with that too I guess.

Trust me both I and the manufacturer are aware the bumper will fit different when mounted. These splitters will or should have enough flex in them to compensate. We have a Tigershark replica bumper and lip for the Vette and our replica lip fits the original bumper perfectly (to give you guys an example) The bumper is urethane and it is flexible enough to be able to fit the lip with no issues.

With them willing to re-do them if there are any issues, I say lets get them asap and go from there. We would have it test fitted on Steves car when they arrive at ED, so if there are any issues they would see them first hand. If these do have to get remade, it wont take very long. I would say no longer than if we went with the 2nd option of having the lip air freighted to us, test fit then produced.

I agree. Thanks again for the replies and updates. I personally look forward to seeing the final product as I am sure many others will as well.

Ok guys...We finally have some pix. I was sent these earlier today. They want to know if everything looks good and they can proceed with production. They said they want to know asap so they can get them here by the end of the month. Let me know what you guys think.

I can not tell by these pictures if this is going to be everything we were hoping for. In the pictures below I have circled everything I am concerned with. Generally speaking this looks like they just used the mold we sent them to create the same part. If I didn't know any better I'd say this is just a Mirko remake of fiberglass with a gel coat. First picture below. These two areas are trouble spots. Usually the splitters do not mate up to the bumper very well here and leaves gaps. Notable under the fog light and as it wraps around into the grill area. I can not tell from this picture if they have the same problem. We need something close up to verify. Second picture it is clear they fixed the issue regarding the unfinished edge of the Mirko splitter, however it appears to me that they did not wrap the splitter around the bumper as we had asked. I can see what appears to be the edge of the bumper showing behind the splitter. Again to me this seems like we are just looking at a fiberglass replica of a Mirko splitter. I'd like to see a picture from the back side of the bumper showing me the wrap around to prove me wrong here.

I will see if I can get additional pix. However it does wrap around the bumper into the fenderwell, trust me they know thats how it was supposed to be made. Matter of fact I copied this from an e-mail from the owner of ED

Pete,

Please approve final prototype of lip onto bumper so we can make any changes and get production started. I need to know asap. The lip wraps around and mounts correctly

I will tell you this though, I was never told that the area around the fog lights was an issue and you guy's wanted it to be different. From my understanding, we just wanted it better fitting and wrap around the bumper into the fenderwell. Where were at we can still change anything we need to, but I need to know what it is. Lol, keep in mind im a Vette guy and not familiar with the lip itself.

Let me know what you guy's want to do. As mentioned I thought we were supposed to basically make it the same shape, just make it wrap aorund the bumper and make sure it fits better and is smoother etc. I will see if we can get additional pix and ask if the fit is really good (tight) around the foglights if thats the concern?

As far as the fog lights go, it doesn't look even. There is more splitter on the driver's side. Also, the top (between the fog lights) looks a little iffy, but that could be the lighting.

If the fog light area doesn't fit quite right, doesn't that fall under "better fitting". Anywere the splitter touches the bumper is a fitment point and should be looked at. Pretty much the whole point of making a new splitter. That being said, when working with the Chinese you have to explain everything specificly, assume nothing. They take little initiative in these cases from my experience.

Don't take this personaly Quickz06, we all really appreceiate your help in this matter. Since it seems Steve has decided to go else were. I'm sure he will pop up when its time to collect money.......

Yes Pete the old Mirko splitter fit rather poorly around the bumper. When the GB was kicking off I told Steve that when ED created a new mold that we needed to fix all of the fitment and quality issues. This included the overall mating of the splitter to the bumper, most notably at the fog light openings and as it wrapped around. Typically the Mirko splitters would either ride up to high on the fog light opening or to low, and then also the splitter would stick out away from the bumper leaving a large gap. Then on the ends of the splitter where it came up to the wheel well the fiberglass always came to an unfinished edge. Leaving the final piece ragged and requiring repair before the splitter could be mounted. I think if we had better pictures and additional pictures showing the interface of the splitter and the bumper on both ends and around the fog lights we should be able to determine whether or not it is a good fit. However if these pictures are of parts that are already here in the US I would strongly recommend someone go there to see the parts in person and review the fitment. Pictures can only go so far.
