Fastest Contour/Cougar

12s is the fastest a duratec has ever gone? Has someone yet to build a forged motor with a buff transmission, put 20+ lbs of boost to it and let it rip? I can't imagine it would be any more expensive than doing it to a 4 banger import and I know someone who has a 550whp Honda 2.0L that runs 11s. Forged motor, cleaned up heads, metal box intake, shot peened everything in the trans and a nice turbo setup. Again, can't see it being any more difficult to do this to a CSVT.

Power is not the problem. Traction and gearing is the problem. Plus, building a motor like that isnt exactly a cakewalk either, and it gets to be VERY expensive.

Yeah very true, I always forget that in Mustangland(where I come from) parts are dirt cheap and traction is generally not a problem compared to how it is with fwd. And if it is a set of sticky tires and a $300 set of control arms fixes it lol.

Still, that guy with the 500whp civic runs 11s... He has slicks up front lol. Hilarious.

edit: Didn't someone convert a zetec to awd with a DSM drivetrain at some point?

If you know what your doing traction is not a problem with FWD. It's obviously not as pleasant as rwd, but it can still be fast.

According to these people FWD can't go faster than 13's.

The DSM drivetrain would not mount to the Zetec without a custom bellhousing, I am heavily into Escorts and I have never heard of it. The awd G5 tranny out of the mazda gtx does fit the zetec bellhousing, but I have yet to see an actual conversion.

The fastest Escort is running a mid 8 last I saw. He could go faster but he's grown up and has a family now and isn't pushing his luck.

Nobody said FWD cars can't go faster than 13's.

We are, however, saying that nobody, as of right now, has been quicker that 13.2 in a Ford Contour. But everybody likes to come in here and say how they are going to be the ones to do it.

Can it be done? Yes, but it would take a lot of money, and it wold deter from the original desing of the Contour, which is/was a handling car.

Hows your project coming along? How much money have you spent on it so far?

I've spent enough to buy a cheap new car at this point. Everyone thinks I'm crazy (because it's a contour). I can't say when I'll be done as money is the biggest issue but its about 75%.

Aha it's over the sea. I'm glad to see someone finally did it, I had no idea. MTX75X>G5

AWD mondeo is nothing new.... You could learn that just using wikipedia. They were available on MK1 mondeos. A UK cougar with a mondeo drivetrain swap is to be expected.

Escort AWD conversion was much easier as some 323 GTXs were released in the US, where you could get tranny, floorpan, rear subframe, yada yada yada. Although one could hit 12s even in FWD layout with an escort on a GTX/GTR swap. One could even hit 12s on a KLZE swap thats done right with some good parts. I've owned a GTX and KLZE swapped escort. Those damn things are fast. You can fit as wide of wheels on an escort as you can a contour, and as light as those things are, you can make a quick launch without a lot of power. 12s are possible even with a stock open diff in those suckers. Those things are a completely different animal when you compare them to contours.

I have never heard of a DSM drivetrain in an escort either.

You can make ANYTHING fast, period.
The reason no Contour has not been in the 12s is because nobody has given a real effort (which I understand).

Last time I checked the BG chassis is very similar to the BK chassis...

what are you talking about? BK is a C1 chassis. Thats a compact car platform. I meant that the escort, BG chassis, is VERY different from the Contour CDW27 chassis. Mazda 3, Mazda 5 and Volvo S40 are BK chassis cars, and those are VERY different from the BG chassis. Gawd, I frequently wonder if you have a clue what you are talking about or are just guessing.

I'm sorry if I have my names mixed up, but I don't care if ford calls their chassis different things. The fact of the matter remains that I based my opinions on the chassis design of the contour, focus, escort and 3 from being underneath them and tearing them apart, not from what their chassis numbers are. While they are all different in small ways, they are designed with many of the same components and designs, and all have the same drawbacks.

no they are not. I have had over a dozen escorts stripped to the bones, and have built some monsters out of those damn cars. They have parts that look a little bit the same, but that doesnt make them the same. They are completely different from one another. You dont know what you are talking about. I wasnt calling you out because you had the chassis names confused, I pointed those out for clarification. I was calling you out because the chassis are completely different. Now quit posting that stuff and potentially confusing newbies that come along and read this later.
