another Spec Stage 3+ failure

Might be a stupid question, but what clutch does a noble use, and why couldn't we use the same

I'll tell ya something. the stock SVT clutch feels like mush after not having driven one for a week and after driving a car with this 6 puck disk.

ok I have alittle over 500 miles on the clutch now. The last ~200 miles or so have been more highway miles. I also have been driving it more normal as the clutch has been feeling really good.

The clutch chatter is still hit or miss. Although I have started getting better at fleathering the clutch. Sometime its still pretty bad so i wonder of heat has anything to do with it.

Only odd things I have noticed is sometime, its been rare, that the clutch grabs lower then normal. I also had some noise on an engagement once but I had also just rev'd the engine up to show off the exhaust and bov. Otherwise its been dead quiet.

The clutch bites very hard. I didn't realize how hard until I drove the SVT again like I noted already. So far it has help the power without any issues.

BrApple/TRicker (and anyone else with a "red" kit) -

What did you guys do about pilot bushings and throwout bearings? I'm going to order a Ford TOB, but I can't find anything on pilots and I know they usually come with a clutch kit (but not with my ClutchNet).

Thanks!

there is no pilot bearing/bushing ....

I used the tob that came with my spec clutch kit. I had a new OEM one that was installed on the trans I used so i didn't use it at the time. It is identical to the OEM unit minus the part number.

If the spring problem wasn't bad enough to steer people away from SPEC, Alley just took my SPEC Stage 1 clutch out and found the rivets holding the hub to the friction material sheered off. These guys can't seem to do anything right. I'll post pics when I have them.

Edit:

Proof positive SPEC has some manufacturing issues. This clutch has less than 4k miles on it and I never dumped the clutch or got near it.

Spec may not be best for our Contour application but they do make excellent clutches and have always performed great for me.
Many clutch issues are due to installation/adjustment issues from my experiences.

There were no issues with this clutch until this happened. LivinSVT did the work and I trust he did a good job. They probably do make a good product, or else they wouldn't be in business anymore, but the Contour application does not seem to be their shinning achievement.

I can agree with this to a point, but rivets popping out and (especially) hub spring windows splitting open smack of manufacturing errors and not improper installation.

Still, they are widely used and praised, so maybe something is off in their Contour design specifically.

I really liked my stage 3+ ... well until it failed. I bet if someone called customer service about this one it would be another case of exsessive input shaft play .... no way ....

This ? is getting out of hand, wow. I didn't know the failures were across all automotive platforms.
I thank all you guys for your input on specs that were posted before I did my 3L swap.

I eventually decided on the svt clutch because of the longevity and drivability of the OEM units. Thank god I have the svt clutch or I would be hesitant to take the car anywhere.

I feel bad for those who have done so much and just get slapped in the face by Spec, expecially Sean. He has had a tough time from day one with his car eventually installing a new 3L to replace the crappy one and did a trans build and spec install.

Same issue I had. Only two of the rivits went out.

X2! I'll be ordering in the next week or two

CEG discount?

Hmmm... I feel a GB coming on .

Give me some time to try and set something up.

EDIT: I just sent an inquiry. Now it's the waiting game to see what they come back with.

lol. i think i was the first one to demolish a spec clutch on a SVT. i might have been the first one to try a clutchnet disc on a tour' here as well. now everyone's jumping on the bandwagon like its a new thing or somethin. i've had my clutchnet disc in for like 15k miles or more now. it is definately the way to go, but i would get their PP too. i ran the spec PP just to save money because it looked fine. good luck with all your spec clutches guys :)
