another Spec Stage 3+ failure

I'm also checking out the F1 Racing Technology company. They seem pretty legit. Their distributor is Gripforce out of Brea, CA who also sells on eBay. I'm seeing what they can offer us as a GB discount as well. They appear to be just as good as the Clutchnet clutches. Not to mention they look identical in design, just about $100 cheaper :D

Here is their Stage 3 setup

Clutchnet first, F1 Racing second... look the same don't they

I think maddmike from the other boards has one of those. I remember him cathing a lot of "oh why, you dont need a ceramic six puck in a contour, just use the stock ford stuff"

typical, meh

I'd like to hear how the f1's work out if anybody's run one.

ClutchNet will be calling me tomorrow around lunch to discuss the possibility of doing a group buy through them. I'll post back up tomorrow with the news and then let people decide if they want to do the stage3 clutch through F1 Racing Tech or ClutchNet. As of right now the F1 Racing Tech has come back with a group buy price of $270 + $18 shipping. So we'll see if ClutchNet can match that or not. If not well, F1 Racing Tech has the same clutch as laid out above.

tell them to use double the size of rivets on the hub if you are getting a ceramic metallic clutch guys. also have them completely close out the windows where the springs are. they don't charge more for these things. my clutch would handle turbodiesel v8 torque #'s according to the boys at clutchnet. they laughed when i told em what i wanted upgraded. probably unnecessary, but i wasn't taking any chances.

Alright guys... I'll post a poll in the GB forum. However here is how it rolled out...

ClutchNet GB price for 5-10 people is $330 shipped

F1 Racing GB price for 5-10 people is $288 shipped

In my opinion they are comparable products. However that said I'll let the masses decide.

Does the F1 come with the TOB like pictured? I know
the ClutchNet doesn't, but if the F1 does, that
might be the deciding factor on which one we choose

anyway, to come back on topic alittle here is an update on the clutchnet setup.

I have ~1k miles on the clutch now. I was as easy on it as I could be for ~ 500 miles. I have been pushing 12 psi for the last ~ 400 miles. This clutch grips. I haven't heard any odd noises or anythign recently. The one thing I noticed and I believe its just because of heat is sometimes it will grab lower to the floor. but as I recall in these situation I was in traffic or in a line of cars going into a car show. To keep things smooth I have been modulating the throttle alot while slipping the clutch. I would feather the clutch more the the engagement window is so small its kinda hard. as for the chatter, its getting better, but still there from time to time. I am going to be changing to filled roll restrictors to see if that helps at all. Otherwise it isn't to bad unless coming of the clutch to much with out enough rpm or forward movement. I haven't tried launching it at all but I feel confident the clutch will hold well.

overall I am happy with this clutch setup. I am confident/comfortable that the clutch will hold the power of the 3L turbo so that I can drive it how I want to and not have to worry. I would suggest checking out clutchnet if you looking for a new clutch.

As mentioned in the GB IC thread, yes it comes with an OEM style TB. Although I'm still doing some research into Competition Clutch to see what the full story is...

mine does the same thing brapple. its because the windows are so much more closed on the disc and the springs absorb heat, and they fade a little. so it grabs a little rougher and it feels like it grabs lower to the floor. i can never make it slip. somewhere around 16k on it now, still holdin strong :)

Good to know - my clutch is pretty bad at this point... I wonder if I am damaging anything driving it with that little bit of vibration all of the time...

Just FYI, ClutchNet GB is on in the GB forum. It will be open until Oct 11th with full payment required by Oct 18th.

an update for anyone interested. I had to pull my mtx last night because the tob i used failed and was leaking brake fluid. So I pulled the clutch off and its in great looking shape, but then again I have alitel under 2k miles on it right now. I broke it in for ~ 500 miles and then it saw a pretty consistant 12 psi after that, no burn outs or launches. also there was very little dust in the bell housing from the clutch in the last 1.5 months or so.

so, so far so good.

Was that a Ford OEM TOB? I went out of my way to get one and not use the one that came with my SPEC kit and mine also leaks, just a little bit, but I notice it.

:blackeye:

I used the tob that came with my spec clutch kit since I didn't use it before. it was identical looking except for some cast in numbers on the housing.

when I got the mtx i am using I had a new OEM Ford TOB fitted. I didn't want to reuse it as it started squeaking on me while the car was idling. The Ford tob that came with my SVT clutch kit was damaged so I couldn't use that one. I do have a new Ford TOB I got to replace the one for my SVT clutch kit for the SVT, so for now I will be using that one.

Alright - I went out of my way to get a different one and git burnt. This time I'm just going to save money and use the one that came with my 3+.

well there may have been another issue as to why mine failed, but I am not really sure as of this time. but either way I'm putting a OEM Ford tob in this time.
