The first FI'd Zetec 'tour is back in the family.

OK, I don't know what happened but my post that I did last night is now gone. Did the forums take a crap? Anywho...

The cylinder walls are scored. It doesn't look that bad but I guess it's enough to completely destroy the compression. I'm wondering if the epoxy chips from the rotors may also be stuck between the valves/seats.

I took a bunch of pics. With the flash, you couldn't see the scoring. I tried to be as still as possible...

Here you can see the coating coming off the rotors...

i had to think for a minute when you said rotors. LOL. if your gonna pull out the pistons measure the rod/piston assembly from the top of the piston too the bottom of the rod cap. i will do the same with mine and we can verify if they are actually the same overal length.

I'm not sure how to get an accurate measurement on something like that. Hmmmm....

I'd like to pull a piston/rod form my '96 engine and throw it in this engine. I could throw it in cylinder 2 or 3 for a nice comparison.

If there really is a 3/16" difference in length, it will be easy to see.

BP

yeah that might just be the easiest way. i really need to know before too long cause the block is gonna go to the machine shop shortly. the head is probably going in tonight or tomorrow.

I added up everything tonight and I went a little nuts. I've got to take this a little slower. I was really hoping to have this running by the end of May. It's now looking like sometime in June.

Instead of just "getting it running, " I'm going to do a bunch of other things. I want to...

Relocate the battery
Install my full stereo system including my 16x9 door speakers with a complete 12AWG re-wire
Install all of my VEI gauges
Powdercoat or paint the accessory drive brackets and a bunch of other parts
Install my 60/40 split rear seat
Swap the front seats and door panels to match
Fix/replace all of the damaged interior trim
Put in my wood trunk floor
Fix all of the damaged/hacked engine wiring
Fix the screwed up power steering cooler lines
Fix the ATX cooler
Fix the strut tower brace
Fix the dash warp

I've got three 3-day weekends coming up so hopefully I will be able to get most of it hammered out.

Yeah, I know. But the stock cardboard crap is junk. It's gotta go. I want a nice solid surface for my subs and amps.

 Those are some big ass door speakers!

:troutslap: I just realized that I put 16x9. LOL!

I work in the A/V industry and everything is 16:9 aspect ratio. I type it so much, it just slipped. That's be one funky looking speaker.

LOL! I want your block too. ;)

i just want it back so i can put the pistons/rods, crank in it and start the rest of the assembly. i really want to get this beast on the road.

i think im gonna have to take the trans up to a shop to get the differential put in as i cant get the ring gear or bearings on it without a press (which i dont have)

I thought that putting the ring gear on was just a mater of putting the gear in the oven for an hour and the diff in the freezer for a few hours. But yeah, you really need a press for the bearing. :blackeye:

well it popped right off the old diff. i just got off the phone with BAT and ordered the new bearings, shims, seals, and speedo gear. im just gonna take it to the local dealer and just have them install it but not seal the case together.

A little update...

I've been working boatloads of overtime and weird hours so I haven't done crap.

I will have my sandblasting booth all finished up this weekend so that I can clean up a bunch of parts and paint them before going on the new motor. It's gonna be purdy.

I just don't know if I want to go with black and chrome for the valve cover (to match the JRSC) or If I want to do metallic blue or red (with chrome logos).

BP

black and chrome FTW :D

it better be finished for the meet i want to see it. mine is gonna get tuned by Logan motorsports next friday. i know im cutting it close but i cant get ahold of Tom to do the tuning so i turned elsewhere. everything is going to be installed this weekend im just not gonna hook up the the last leg of the intercooler plumbing or install the injectors. i will get pics of it once its installed and i will try to take a video of it on the dyno during tuning.

Ain't gonna happen. Stupid work keeps getting in the way. I want to get everything finished on it and not rush it. We'll have to wait to race 'til next years SZ. ;)

By then, I'll have a turbo and a SC Zetec.

Well I've done alot of soul searching lately. I'm getting out. It's all gotta go. If you want a project car, the HOC is for sale.

It currently has no engine but I picked up a Focus engine with 17k on it that I was going to drop in. I will also be selling the supercharger, my turbos, manifolds, injectors, etc.

If anyone is interested, PM me. I will also be posting everything in the classifieds over the next few days.

BP

It all comes down to cash. The way that I want to do it, I will need to sink another $2-3k into it to make it decent. Even then it will still have an ATX whose days are numbered with an engine pushing over 200TQ.

I could throw it together as-is, but I just can't do something half-a$$ed.

The only way to do it right would be to do a MTX conversion and putting on the FRPP head with turbo cams. That way it would do 300HP easy and you could get it all to the ground.

Like I said before, I have all of the major pieces if anyone wants a project car.
