When people ask you what you drive, what do you say?

Still the cool dude you will always be too - I did just learn that you were born in Africa though and you have been all over the world! Awesome to hear and it makes you a well cultured individual .

"Ive been around the world, from London to the Bay!" - Hammer

Jullian is the shiz! He tried to teach me African, I have no clue. I asked him alot about his past exploration. It fascinates me once living in the same home for 20+ years in a small town. Too Cool!

Im trying to teach him to give me his car......

In reference to the post, I say SVT Contour or just Contour to the people that know little about cars or I just dont want to talk to.

I do however get strangers asking, "what kind of car is that?"

The question is:

Do you think people look at the car and respect it? Of course they might not know what it is. If I park my car further out in a parking lot, do people understand why and respect it. Does the car stick out as 'special' or is it another car that someone over hypes.

I for one take alot in consideration when parking, maintaining, and modding my car. 1 of 204 is quite special, I could take mine back to stock at any time. The paint is far superior than factory and have tried to take care of it as best as i can.

There is a chance that I could go on not seeing another 2000 T-Green in person. Do people get that? I can park my car or drive on the highway and insure that im most likely the only Tgreen present, that alone probably the only SVT.

I get it, love it for that, but do others get it? Out here I have seen at least 3 orange lambos, only on other T-green.

What does Porsche have to do with a Ford v6 with Yamaha history?
I believe the Duratec was a V6 design Ford acquired from Porsche (in probably a complicated way :) ) who stayed with boxer design engines.
Yamaha history is only the top-end package designed for the SHO.

From what I remember Ford was working with Cosworth who were also working with Porsche so that was where they came into the picture 15 years ago.

LOL! nah, i'm not. here it is in short... Born in africa, spent most of my childhood in London UK, moved to the states when i was 18, and voila! here i am:). luv u too:). its ok. everyone thinks i'm white till they actually see me. ask joey. he'll tell u:laugh:

I knew you weren't white...I is a smart one, I figured it out all by myself....from the pic you sent of the y-pipe you had for sale, you hand was in it. That pipe is on blu-fuz's car now by the way.

When people heard I was going to MI to pick up Puds car, I kept getting "you are going to MI to pick up a CONTOUR?!?!?!?". :nonono: Now everyone sees it and goes, ahhhh.

The 2.5 L and 3.0 L V6 Duratecs are evolutions of the same design, first used in the 1994 Ford Mondeo. It is a modern aluminum DOHC V6 with a 60° bank angle. The primary engineering input came from Porsche, who were developing a similar V6 before selling the engineering to Ford, and Cosworth, who helped with cylinder head manufacturing. They were also used in the Ford Cougar.

Haha. Thats almost the same thing the insurance lady said when I gave her the VIN to add the car on the policy.

The old copy/paste trick. I suppose you believe everything you read on Wiki?

Being in my mide 40's as well, I tell them "I drive a limited edition 2000 contour svt #449 of only 2150 built".This usualy sparks ther interest, and somtimes gets a WOW!!

1. I believe the 2.5L V6 Duratec was first introduce in the 95 Contour, the first Mondeos used the Zetec

I say "A Contour."

They say "Haha, that sucks! What a grandma car!"

I say "Have you ridden in one?"

They say "No, but it can't be fast!"

I say "Neither is a Honda Civic, but my car handles better."

100% correct!!!

I have pictures somewhere floating around of the engine and the HUGE intake manifold they once had on our cars.. It's a night and day difference compared to our cars.

So did Porsche not actually plan to use the engine? If it wouldnt fit in our engine bay how would it ever fit in one of theirs?

?? Uh, no, Duratec = Porsche roots.

Indeed. The Duratec has Ford, Porsche, and Cosworth roots.

As stated, Yamaha engineering was confined only to the Taurus SHO. They were responsible for the engines from 1989 to 1995, and the heads from 1996-1999.

Having owned two SHOs, a 1989 Cougar XR7 Supercharged, in addition to my SVT Contour, which I still own, I'm very used to having a very special car that no one knows about. People often want to chat you up once they find out you're a car guy, and they ask what you drive. Seems they always expect it to be something immediately identifiable; if they know you're a Ford man (which I am) they expect the iconic Mustang. I've always wanted a 1984 GT, so once I have one, it will be entertaining to answer that question with the expected answer.

Of course, at present, two cars are topping the list -- a 1984 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, and a 1982 Mercury Capri "White Lightning." Both of those will do a decent job of keeping up my trend of obscure automotive greatness, at least to most people.

When asked, I give the Reader's Digest performance primer along with the car's model name.

"An SVT Contour. SVT is Ford's in-house performance division -- the car has more horsepower, a unique suspension, perforated leather seats, etc. It's the go-faster version of the Contour..."

By this time, they've glazed over.

To describe the SHO, I took some liberty. "A Taurus with a racing engine." This was not true, though you could race the car. But to people who did not know cars, it got the point across. I needed to convey it was a firebreather.

Forget about it with the XR7 Cougar. People don't even know what a supercharger is, so you're already behind the 8-ball. A potential explanation could go like this (groan):

"1989 Mercury Cougar XR7. In 1989 and 1990 only, Ford bolted an Eaton M90 supercharger capable of 12 lbs of boost onto its venerable pushrod 3.8 liter "Essex" V6 and created a screamer. Mine's a 5-speed, only 3079 of which were ever made. It's got selectable automatic ride control..."

Goodness. I'd prefer just to say "A very big cat," and head toward the bar.
