The "official" 2011 Fall Dragon Run thread...Oct 6th-9th

MAZDA TAKE OVER!

I'm willing to make a bet Eathen would have more fun in a gen 1 Miata, over his s2k on the dragon.

The trip down on the other hand and probably the skyway, will be hell.

If he goes through with it, i'm interested to see what he will do with it. He usually does some good stuff, and i could always use new good ideas. Now i just need to start making Eathen money.

Looks like another Fit is going to be going, from FLA no less and he might be bringing his Dad and his Boxster, but we'll see when/if they come through but the Honda showing is winning so far, come on Mazda, make it close:laugh:

More 80's.........

-First year for intercooling of the Grand National

-First year for the convertable to come back to the Corvette after an 11 year hiatous

-Van Halen releases "5150" with new lead singer Sammy Hagar

-Space shuttle "Challenger" explodes right after take off!

The year, 86'............86 more days to go!!!!!

I am sure I should have kept the S2k, here is what a shaved and tucked engine bay on a S2K looked like when I was done.

Just came up with things pertaining to my past, that's all, didn't have alot of involvement with the Porsche and certainly not with something ugly like the F40, never liked that car as far as the looks go. That being said, I'd take the Porsche over the F40 for sure, no question about it, just not in red for sure!

As far as the Fits slowing things down, well, with the groups being split up that's not going to be a problem. I know we'd hold you guys up on the Skyway but IMO the Dragon not so much, you can only go so fast out there and I thought the Fit just fine out there but like I said, the groups will be split up anyways so it doesn't matter. Speaking of that, there's been talk about heading out in the morning, eating breakfast at the cabin and then heading straight out. I've always wanted to go out there early and this is going to happen, a couple people have PM'd me about this and I too agree about diong this. Randy was right all along, we spend waaaaaaay too much time gathering everyone, heading to the restaraunt for breakfast and then waiting for the 2nd group to get done and line up at the gas station or infront of the sign. With the amount of Dragon vets we've got now, we don't need need leaders for group runs, so this shouldn't be a problem, right?

What do you guys think about this idea?

Only a couple more days of this:

-Ford produces one of the most awesome rallye cars, the RS2000

-The Merkur makes its debut

-Chevrolet adds TPI to the Corvette, thus starting the rise back to dominance!

-Ronald Regan starts his 2nd term as president

-Last year for a carb on a Mustang GT

The year for all this, 85'.........85 days to go!

I told my dad about that issue (seeing as he is about 90% sure he's going with me) we have, taking 3 hours to wake up, eat, wash cars, fuel up, then wait for everyone on the hill. He just responded, "why go out and eat, can't you just make breakfast at the cabins". He then proceeded to tell me how and what he was going to prepare for breakfast. (not sure how i'm going to fit all these cooking items into a Miata).

I also like the idea of hitting the fast food drive through (Hardees??) grabbing a bite to eat and just sit on the hill / wait for people and eat. Then again, i can go all day on a bag of Doritos.

Roger how can you not dig the F40!? Paint so thin, you can see the carbon fiber weave through it on the right light. That Porsche is too complicated. 4WD that not even NASA gets. Plus the turbos are different sized. The Ferrari is big boost all day long!

Anyways, ya'lls need a chuck wagon up there lol. Stick a mini fridge in the back of one of the Fits. You won't even worry about shaking up your fizzy beverages! ;)

Well I'll say this, I like the F40 over the F50 and Enzo, does that count for anything?! Who cares about the turbo'd being a different size, the newer inline 6 BMW's have that w/o a problem. Its been proven time and time again (also on Top Gear) and even Jeremy said as much, the Porsche is the supercar you can drive day in and day out, practical, reliable and a supercar, sounds like its right up my alley....now I just need the money to buy one!

Eating at the cabins is what I plan on doing for sure. Wake up, hit the shower and make some breakfast and hit the road. We can buy the food at the store across route 68 (across from the Hardee's) and speaking of Hardee's, well, I'd be down for that too, in and out and hit the road there too. We just can't waste all this time waiting around infront of the cabins for people to get up and get going, then hit the restaraunt and wait for our food and then wait for the next group to come in, not to mention its cheaper but more importantly its much, much quicker and gives us more time for the road, the road we've waited to drive for an entire year. The one day I'd be willing to hit the restaraunt is on Sunday morning, when we're on our way home. This brings up another question, one night, are we going to BBQ something? It doesn't have to be fancy, just burgers and brats would be great, maybe Friday night for you guys not going on the Dragon at night time. I know I plan on hitting the Dragon at night again, wouldn't miss it for the world, just looking out for the rest of the group on that one.

No fridges in the Fits, we'll be out carving up the road....all 5 of us, maybe 6, 7 or 8, who knows!

I now have 2 wheels, so my Fit will have the lowest drag coefficient, will just slice through the thin mountain air! I will do a good detail right before the run so it looks its best, I can atleast take care of that, not that this is a car show or anything but I gotta have something since there's really nothing under the hood.

The countdown has been fun, less sports figures and more about cars:

-No "official" Corvette model

-Mustang gets refreshed facia and rear tailights in its second coming of the "Boss"

"Pyromania" and "Metal Health" duke it out on the radio (Def Leppard and Quiet Riot)

-MTV actually played video's, all day and night....really!

-The US Festival in Cali draws hundreds of thousands of fans, try that today with the garbage being played!

-Jim Palmer of the Orioles becomes the first player in history to win a World Series in 3 different decades...with the same team!

-The Detroit Lions "almost" win a playoff game against the 49-ers, but thankfully that doesn't happen because we would never have had "the catch".

-Stevie Ray Vaughan records with David Bowie, the results "Let's Dance", his best selling album to date.

-Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are in their PRIME!!!

The year...83', EIGHTY THREE MORE DAYS TO GO!

Where are we on the t-shirt idea's:shrug:

BTW we're 11 weeks away from the trip and....

-The last year for the gen II Camaro/Firebird

-The year MTV launches, remember the first video played there...I didn't see it as it happened but I do know the answer w/o googling it....do you:confused:

-President Regan is shot by John Hinkley Jr to impress Jodie Foster:confused: (guess John didn't get the memo that she likes girls and not guys)

-Bob Marley passes away from cancer:cry:

The year, 81'........81 days to go!

No shirt, gotta save money for mods and some trip the the dragon that everyone is talking about.

Boo you skipped 82. :nonono: It was Video Killed the Radio Star IIRC.

Yeah I know but Uncle Rico says "Back in 82', could throw a pigskin a quarter mile!"

Dillon, $20.00 isn't going to break you, one less case of Dorito's and your all set! LOL!

More Fits are looking to come out, one from Ohio and one from Bama, the guy from Bama said he's coming up late Friday and leaving Sunday and judging by his post saying "I'm definately going", well, I can only wait and see what he comes up with accomadations. The "80 hp per litre" small cars are a comin', we may be small but we are many!

We finally leave the decade today.......

-3 rock icons die in this year, Bon Scott, John Bonham and John Lennon:cry:

-The T/A no longer had the 6.6 litre engine, it went down to a N/A 4.9 Poncho and a turbo'd 4.9L w/ a whole TWO HUNDERED HORSEPOWER or to make it sound worse, how's almost 41 hp per litre:o (my Fit makes 80 hp per litre)

-Who shot J.R.

-The Corvette was sold w/ a 305....yes, a 305 but only in Cali (you can have it too:blackeye:) and all Corvette's had an 85 mph speedo, embarrassing!

-"Another one bites the dust" tops the pop and disco charts and is adopted by the Detroit Lions as their theme song starting the season 4-0 with rookie Billy Sims.

-Actor John Wayne dies

-"DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES...YESSS!"

-This movie comes out, here's a line and if you don't know it, ask someone...."I got it from the police auction, its pre-cataylic converters, its got a 440 plant with cop tires, cop shocks and cop tires.....DON'T LIKE IT???!!!"

-Brian Johnson joins AC/DC and records "Back in Black"

Yep, its 1980....80 more days

The quote is actually, It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas. What do you say, is it the new Bluesmobile or what?

The Blues Brothers.
