The "official" 2011 Fall Dragon Run thread...Oct 6th-9th

Matt, are you serious about a 5.0 Mustang eating GN's all day:troutslap: It doesn't matter how much the GN weighed (about 3600 lbs IIRC), you see there's this thing the GN has/had in abundance and its called TORQUE (355 ft/lbs @2000 rpm....STOCK) Stock vs. stock its not even close and if you "turn a couple keys" under the hood of the GN, well ========================= I'll give you an honest example. A fellow co-worker back in the day bought one too (87' GN) but his had 51k on the clock and when we took it out for a ride, when it shifted, it damn near went into the next lane, strong ass car! He then put no more than $1k into the car, paid $7400 for the car and had himself a 12.54 @106 mph car with stock turbo, IC and engine, all simple bolt-ons. He did have a chip that locked the TC and ran 100 octane though. I ran a 12.68 @109 mph that day with my 120k stock engine and trans car but the valve springs were wiped out (notorious on turbos back then) and a VERY tired trans. I had a TE60 turbo, 42 lbs red stripe injectors and HUGE FMIC, along with the basic mods that everyone did to the car (fuel pump, adj fuel pressure regulator, huge K&N, new coil/wires/plugs) but I also had a Terry Houston 3" downpipe and ATR pitbull exhaust too. My set-up was supposed to net me high 11's/low 12's but not with my twice wiped out valve springs and that trans, not to mention the engine had 120k on it too. Anyways, I was still happy with my times and just for the hell of it, I ran the car with my street tires and my dial-a-chip set for the street (93) tune w/ fatter tune and ran a 13.2 @106 mph, not too bad.

Don't get me wrong now, notchback 5.0's ran good, especially with NOS or Vortech's but on the street, well, my Caprice took care of them pretty regularly. Maybe Derek can come in here and talk about what happened on French Road one night with a certain "man in blue" and a 5.0L Mustang:laugh:

COMING TO A REAR VIEW MIRROR NEAR YOU?

I'm trying to find more pics but can't seem to do it, just wanna see the rest of the car, pretty cool from the front for sure!

Aw it's so cute! I bet it tries real hard, bless its little heart. :D

It's not like i'm asking a 2 year old to wheel rosie odonnell up a hill in a wagon.

This little guy shouldn't have any issues. Quick spool is what i want. :D

A equally modded Stang vs your GN or Caprice would hand you your butt! Off the top of my head I know of one 93 Notch with 10" tires that ran low 10's. His only limit was installing a roll cage. (he street raced). Around here GN were ok, but not the first thing that came to mind when you thought speed and durability. The 2004r trans was junk! Not to mention the posi unit. With the same time and $$$ invested in the GN you would have easily had a 10 second Mustang.

"Equally modded" is a lose term, remember what I said, $1k in mods, including re-capped cheater slicks and it went from a mid 14 sec car to mid 12's, not doing that in ANY Stang. Stangs are/were plentiful, GN's, T-type and Limited's were not. I was never a Stang guy back in the day and its probably why I didn't end up with one I guess, it wasn't mean't to be. The Buicks fitted my personality more. As with any car there were 10 cars out there that could beat me and there were 10 cars out there I could beat. I did like surprising muscle car guys with the Caprice though. I remember racing a 66' GTO one Saturday afternoon and I asked the guy what he had and he said in his badest ass voice FOUR HUNDERED! I said "me too, let's go"....it wasn't even close but then again, a 4000 stall and 4.88 gears help alot, LOL!, not to mention a built 406 s/b using 5.7 rods, Dart heads, good cam/intake/carb combo too. I have many fond memories of my street racing days, I guess you could say its like Al Bundy and his H.S. football stories, LOL!

I used to call 5.0 Stangs "Bellybuttons"

Ha! Wait till you have to do Mopar wiring. They made no electrical sense.

Been there done that. Not everything can be elementary like say Chevys! Its part of the charm.

Roger I have 2 words for you, In -Sane!

OB1....these aren't the muscle cars your looking for, move along, move along:laugh:

Those old muscle cars weren't as fast as they seem to be, trust me, I've seen em' at the track and its because of this decade called the mid 70's through the early 80's where Corvette's ran 15.7@88 mph, today's minivans are waaaaaay faster than that:shrug:

BTW, the RR you posted is nice, my second favorite year to this one.....
