The "official" 2011 Fall Dragon Run thread...Oct 6th-9th

They might not have to tent. I'll have to check with Randy, but I don't think we have anybody staying in the big cabin with us yet.

If we do have anyone staying with us. I have totally forgotten. I guess I better go check the cabin reservation thread.

There's the guy from Canada coming down as well as another guy from Xceedspeed w/ a WRX looking to go now, you guys want company and to cut your costs down a bit, there's an oppurtunity, just post here and I'll pass it along on that site, I'm balancing 3 sites now with this run now but in the end will be well worth it as this year's run is turning out to be our best yet. I know I say that every year but when it comes down to it, it just is! Randy, you finally got through to me about wasting all the time in the morning at the restaraunt and now I'm going to either eat in the cabin or hit the Hardee's and inhale something quick and hit the road. Speaking of that, with all the vets out there now who know their way around, there's no need to wait around for everyone to get up and get going. People will just need to announce what time their group is heading out, get up and hit the road, simple as that. Some people, like myself, are early risers while some wanna sleep in a bit, again, no problem, everyone knows their way around down there, it will all work out and we'll end up at the meeting spot at some point or another.

Saturday's plan is to just stay away from the Dragon other than going to Deal's Gap and turning right onto route 28 "Moonshiner's Road" and checking out that road. Last year was so cop infested out there on Sat, not to mention all the sightseers too. Not sure what we'll see when we keep going on route 28 but I know this, the part we drove on last year was awesome and its going to be fun when we get past that section to see what's out there. I plan on getting up early for this day too. I'd like to see the morning fog and take in the sunrise in the mountains, should be spectacular for sure!

Joe Walsh says it FUNK 49 NUMBER OF DAYS TO GO!

I better hurry up!

Nah you're good. At least you have all the parts! My engine is at the machine shop, head is at Josh's, transmission is at my folks' garage, and my car is at my house.

I'll take a Canadian. Get us some renters!

Well, here's the car he's trying to get ready, fresh out of paint and yes, he's Canadian....A!

I'll let him know he's got a place and he said even if the R33 isn't ready, he's got a Miata, so there you go, yet another Mah-zda!

FORTY EIGHT DAYS TO GO EVERYONE!

Didn't have to work overtime today.

Took the car out and slugged it around a little. The door bars make you feel EVERYTHING, for some reason just by adding the door bars made everything 10 times stiffer. I'm sure the butterfly brace, rails, and bars in a combo help most. Did a little grocery shopping, and making a few stops. To be honest, i can't notice the bars there unless i'm getting in and out, and even then it's not much to step over them. Gave a buddy a ride, and he goes "wtf is this".

I'm almost positive i won't put enough miles on this 5w30 before october 10th. I'm wondering if i should run it on the dragon with that oil, or swap 10w30 in before the trip?

I still need sway bar end links and bushings for the sway bars. I can't wait to see what it's like with them on.

Slotted rotors and hawk pads are on the way.

Slave cylinder should be bought sometime next week.

Also, i had to drive home in that rain we had the other day. I hit a fairly curvy road at speed in the pouring rain. All i can say is i have no idea the slip point to these s drives. They handle just as good in the rain as on dry pavement. It's unbelievable.

Pulled these off a MIATA. TRD 18"s. Why do I wind up with stuff I don't need? I'm also parting out a 94 Integra. What am I going to do with Skunk suspension parts? I'm fixing to blow up eBay!

Dillon, your 5w30 oil is fine, because its still a 30w when it warms up, no difference there and infact, 5w is better anyways, it flows faster in our climate anyways. I run 0w20 in my Fit, supposed to run 5w20 so I'm good to go. Hectour and I will be changing my oil in about a month, this way I'm fresh for the trip and ready for the winter monthes. I've got over 8k on my current oil change and its still got a nice color to it, that Royal Purple oil filter I'm running seems to be even better than the Mobil 1 filter, imagine that. Along with the oil change we'll be doing a trans fluid change as well, its only 3 quarts but better than waiting till 60k. I'll be changing out the trans fluid every oil change from now on, cheap insurance I say.

Oh yeah, Eathen did it again........

47 DAYS TO GO!

Looks like I am the only Detroiter heading out to the TOTD on Thursday the 6th !! Going to be a lonely ride since my normal co-pilot (Roger's step-dad) isn't going this year.............I'll do an oil change before the trip plus I have thought of doing the 3qt deal with my trans fluid as well. Keep reading on MSF that the Motorcraft MTX-75 & IB5 transmission fluid XT-M5-QS is amaz-zazing!! :)

I've been using Mobil 1 gear oil for my trans....works great!

I'd go with the Mobil 1 Derek, stay away from the heard, you know.

Randy and Billy, I got a PM from a CEG-er who wanted to know if we still had room for the run, I told him to come down here into our forum, introduce himself and let you guys know about his interest, he's from VA and has a modded CSVT w/ a 3.0L, so we're getting some more Contours coming.

We're almost less than 6 weeks till the run or46 DAYS TO GO!!

Dang it's creeping up fast! Karen is now full time at the bank, which means two things: 1) she won't need to borrow my Corolla money anymore, and 2) she doesn't work Saturdays anymore. So the three of us can come up. Baby Dude will be kicking the whole damn time!!

Eathen is officially out, his current car needs alot of work to be road worthy and believe it or not, he traded his recently bought RSX for another S2000 and it needs "some work". I know he didn't reserve the tent spot or a cabin, so no need to try and fill that spot. The guy from VA started a new post for wanting to attend our run, not sure why he didn't just post it in here, maybe he didn't see this one:shrug: From reading his post, it looks like he needs this trip to get a break from things, no kidding on that one, I think we all feel that way at some time or another.

I know we've got another big run again, not sure if its the same amount as last year or not and it really doesn't matter IMO. I for one have gotten caught up in the numbers game the past couple years but the way I look at is this, throw out the invite to those and the ones whom really wanna go will follow what they've gotta do and make it out there, one way or the other, even if they can't stay with the main group at Caney Creek, there's other options and I've made that clear to all of them. I'm just glad that we've got core of good guys who make this trip every year!

Since we're inside of 6 weeks to this it doesn't hurt to bring up the idea's throw out about eating out or should I say NOT eating out for breakfast. Randy figured this out 2 years ago and I always wanted to go there every morning, not even paying attention to how much time we all spent there, not to mention the time waiting around in the morning looking at each other and wondering when this person is going to get up and so on and so fourth. There's many people who know there way around down there, not just the vets, its pretty easy to get out there, its basically all lefts (save the NASCAR jokes:laugh:) Myself and a couple others wanna get up early, eat something either at the cabin or Hardee's and hit the road, taking in all that the morning has to offer. I for one have never been out there in the morning, the real morning and its something on my list for sure. I know there's some who don't wanna get up real early and that's cool, enough people are there to lead up a later group, no problem. No matter what time we all leave we'll all meet up at the same spot on the Dragon to hang out anyways, we can all get caught up on the days actions and let the cars cool down, oh yeah and the owners too! There are going to be some new faces out with us again this year, this has been a yearly tradition from year #2 and not one year has the exact same people on the run. I wanna show the noobs to our run how we do this so they feel welcome and wanna keep coming back every year they can.

If anyone is unclear about what's going on each day, chime in here and we'll get it all sorted out.

Well I just didn't want yo litter up the thread. I figured post outside to put some pics in.

Its ok to that, no problem, that's what our thread is for and I take it you haven't read through it? If so, you'd the realize how the Dragon thread can get off track a bit but even that's ok. What day are you coming in AKA? You could stay with the FLA guys, they've rented the largest cabin and are lookin' for roomates, they've got one Canadian so far and I'm sure if you post your intensions, they'll not have a problem......right guys

COLT 45 NUMBER OF DAYS TO GO.....WAIT, MAYBE THAT LITTLE JINGLE ISN'T SUCH A GOOD IDEA!

Oh yeah, remember everyone...THE FITS ARE COMING AND WE ARE A COLORFUL BUNCH!

Besides my orange Fit, we've got a bright red one and that cool pearl blue Honda colored one, along with a metallic gray one to balance things out, not sure what color the other one is, not to mention any other ones, you never know!

Well all depends on work if I get Thursday off I'll be there then. But if not I wouldn't be able to show up early Saturday morning. Truck industry has been getting busy.
