SVT vs SHO

how many FI 3.0 CSVTs with 400+ HP and 400+ ftlbs tq are there? because there are several SHO's with 400+ HP/FTLBS TQ. plus SHO axles don't break like dry twigs when the power is put to them like the ones in the CSVT do. so IMO FI SHO beats FI CSVT.

Stazi's old car should be around 400 with what has been done to it, Ray's car was WELL north of 300 but don't know if it hit 400, Blackcoogs is well over 300. I thought Burreta was pushing near 400 on his builds, bhiggs was near 400 on his, I think brapple wasn't too far. Those are just off the top of my head who are at around 350+ Poles track car is looking to be a beast as well with just a 3.0 currently in it. If CSVT#49 and Poles traction bars/suspention design work, our days of limited traction might be over.

I am not knocking on the SHO's. But if you look at the trap speeds between the two cars, they aren't that far off from one another.

HP and TQ do play a big role, but with my 3L CSVT i beat redlines, turbo cobalts, and pull about 1/2 a car on 90% of GT mustangs which put out a lot higher numbers than me. From a stop they get us because launching contours suck. My buddy has his GT and dyno'd at 302ish at the wheels and he only pulls on me around 100mph when i go into 4th.

a well maintained stock SHO will beat a lightly modded mustang gt unless the driver of the SHO doesn't know how to drive. my old '93 could put a hurting to Z28s and GTs alike. i once raced a GTO (with the 5.7 thats 350hp and 365ftlbs tq) and while i didn't beat it it never got more than a fender length on me. now i don't know if it was an ATX or not but the point is a good driver can make an SHO a formidable opponent.

Auto GTO's actually made more power and torque than the manuals.

LoL I will always love SVT they got the Contour and the Cobra and the Focus and almost had the Thunderbird thats to bad that would have been nice but the 94 95 sc tbirds where awsome.

Man i need to go test drive a stock 93-95ish sho and maybe purchase a good condition stock one

Good luck finding one in good condidtion with lower miles. They are well past where SVT's are just entering....the cost point of 16 year old kids getting them DIRT cheap and beating the ever living snot out of them. LOL.

I know I look at them for sale on craigslist all the time though. I did always want one...just too dated for me now.

Ive had both. My dad has had prolly 4 or 5 SHOs. I prefer SVTC for the apperance, interior and mostly how they drive. Dont get me wrong SHOs are great, they are just becoming really hard to find in decent condition. My 3l csvt felt worlds faster then my 95.

I've also had both. While the SHO may have been slightly faster in a straight line. I would still choose a CSVT over a SHO for the reasons you just listed.

Everytime i go to a junk yard there are always 4 or 5 shos with that pretty manifold lol...and non of them are wrecked...Where those engines reliable ?

very strong and extremely reliable, as long as the proper maintenance was performed ie the 60k and 120k mile "tune ups". SHO engines are very labor intensive and it takes a lot of blood and sweat to bring one back to life. i failed with my first one but will not when i get my next one.

what year gt's and z28's are you trying to say a STOCK sho will put a hurting on???because i can tell you my '93 5.0 lx when it had simply flowmasters and 3.73 gears put a hurting on a co workers 92 or 93 sho 5speed,both from dead stop and a roll..the 93 ran 13.7's with just gears and exhaust....also my '95 gt that had minor mods spanked an sho(can't remember year)at test and tune at the track...the 95 ran 13.8's to 14.1's with minor bolt ons...

but you are delusional if you think a STOCK sho will put a hurting on an ls1 z28,maybe an iroc z28,but no way in hell an ls1 powered z28...and i'm pretty sure any year gto would have no trouble spanking a stock sho,if the driver seriously wanted to....nothing against sho's i happen to like them, but let's get real for a second...

There are plently of vids on Youtube of SHO's beating up Mustang GT's. Usually 4.6 2-valve cars. Due to forum rules, I can't post them here.

And I agree, a well maintained LS1 car should walk all over a stock SHO.

I've had SHO's , Contour SVT's, and too many Mustangs to count. Neither will out run a Mustang unless the driver can't drive. I've out run an 88 Mustang GT with my mostly stock SVT at the track but would never claim that it was faster than MustangS. I was faster than that car with that driver. My SVT would run 9.80's, SHO 9.60's and 86 LX 8.70's or 7.80's sprayed. All these times were at the same 1/8 mile track, with the temp. in the 90's. All with street tires, no slicks on the Mustang. I consider myself a pretty good driver and could get them all out of the hole. I've been dragracing for over 25 years and I've seen cars that shouldn't beat other cars, but the driver made all the difference. I have a 2004 GT and it wouldn't be a race against any of the SHO's that I've owned 89, 92, and 96. Stock for stock the SHO is faster in a staight line but the SVT is alot more fun to drive.

wow youtube videos, that means alot lol..i never said some sho's couldn't beat a mustang gt,but to make a general statement like STOCK sho's are faster than mustang gt's is preposterious......sure 96-98 gt's are weak especially the auto's...a good running 99-up pi motored 5speed gt should have no problem dispatching a stock sho....my brother ran 13.5's in my sis n laws '00 gt,and i'm pretty sure it would have no problem handling a stock sho.

but seriously a 5.7 let alone an 6.0 gto will destroy a STOCK sho,how could anyone believe differently????an lt1 camaro should easily dispatch a STOCK sho as well....but seriously an ls1 camaro not "should" but would easily handle a STOCK sho,its not even close...seriously a fwd four door sedan that weighs over 3200lbs. with 220 hp,and runs 0-60 in the 7's,and 15 sec. 1/4 mile,is no match for a rwd car with over 300 hp and tq.....my buddy has a stock ls1 camaro and there is no way in hell a STOCK sho would even come close to beating it,that is laughable at best...

again i like the sho's,but let's be serious...some cars can be faster than some others, better driver's etc...but to generalize from 1 incident, and say that sho's are faster than all those particular cars is ridiculous...

lack of experience and over confidence. once again, a good driver that knows how to drive an SHO will make a formidable opponent.

but with drivers being equal the car with more power is going to win every time...so what is your point exactly...a good driver in an sho isn't suddenly going to make up for that much of a difference in power period, unless the other driver is just totally incompetent....
