Does anyone know what is faster a stock Contour SVT or stock Taurus SHO (Like 1989-1995 version)

Also how fast are the new Taurus SHOs?

Depends on the year SHO. According to most of my sources, the SVT's ran anywhere between 15.2 and 15.8. The SHO's ran anywhere between 15.2 and 17.0 for first/second gen. SVT's have more parts availible, and with a 3L swap, are much faster.

Both cars are great. I've been a SHO nut since i was 14, and only ever drove one. I love those cars, but for some weird reason, i ended up with a 3L SVT.

my old 93 MTX would give any stock CSVT a beating it would not forget. a modded 3L CSVT would kill an SHO. a SHO with a turbo or SC and i don't think a CSVT even with a 3L and turbo would stand a chance. IIRC well maintained GEN I and GEN II MTX SHOs with a decent driver will run high 14's. also the GEN IV SHOs are fast enough, seems there are a couple over on SHOfourm that are dipping into the 12's. but most are in the 13's.

Ok I just noticed that all the SHOs had a higher HP rating then the SVT (according to wikipedia) so I figured maybe they were faster as well. Has anyone had the pleasure to drive the new SHO with 365HP and 350 lb-ft torque??

I have a feeling a 3.0L turbo/supercharged SVT will take a FI SHO once they get traction. Sure the 1/4 mile times of the SVT's aren't the greatest, but that is because no one has been able to get the tires to hook up with out snapping an axel....so that kind of skews the numbers a little bit. If a NA 3.0L SVT can hit 13.5 in the 1/4 mile, the properly built FI 3.0's should be much lower than that...but they aren't because they just spin tires in 1st and 2nd and 3rd and sometimes 4th.

Basically, the people on this forum have run these times
Stock SVT--high 14's
3.0L---mid 13's
Turbo---mid to low 13's...but trapping faster than the 3.0L's

Properly built FI SHO's can make well over 400whp. Search "Turbo SHO takes on several worthy challengers", on YouTube. I can't post the link due to forum rules. It's quite impressive.

And CSVT49 on here is looking at over 500 fwhp on his set up. All he needs to do now is put the parts together. It isn't a matter of how much power either of these cars can make, you can make a dumb amount on both of them with enough money. CSVT49 should be able to blow the doors off of 99% of the cars out there with his build...the point it there are always exceptions to the rule.

is this based on average or record?

Both for the most part. There are a several people who have each of those times with these cars....if you dig around enough you can find the records. I know Nima has the record for the 3.0L with DemonSVT not that far behind. I can't for the life of me, remember who has the stock time...I just remember it being in the 14's....was that Pole? The turbo's times are all over the place with the traction issues, different set ups etc. If you look at some other sites, you can see what a turbo csvt can do against other cars...only from a roll though. LOL.

cuz records are for personally and custom built cars. and plus its the driver skills. u cant make the same car twice.
lets say theres 1 record per category: 2.5, 3.0, 2.5 t, and 3.0 t being the categories (not including the 4 bangers) and so that leaves 4 of the fastest cars in there "category". therefore i think it would be more logical to use average times

That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Heck, you hear about cars from the factory that are different in horsepower numbers....even stock CSVT's, some people having 140fwhp and another one having 160fwhp.

FWIW, we raced Steedas.. SHO and SVT. The SHO beat it every time. However, this was just a straight line race. I have videos somewhere...

how is that the dumbest thing u ever heard? u said the same thing exactly that i said. only more specific

id like to see those videos. i have a first gen sho in the family and i have an e0. always joking about a race. i think it should happen.

i believe that this is the most current top 10 list for 1/4 mile times from SHOforum. all of the times have been verified with time slips and/or video verification.
