I'm sure this has been covered but I was unable to find it during a search, but I was wondering if the SVT focus Getrag could be used in the Contour. If it could be made to fit it may help out with traction issues as the gearing on the bottom is a lot taller. The first gear hits over 40mph in 1st and 72mph in second.... any thoughts?

(please, no input from KHAOS, I don't want to hear about contact patches and magazines)

:troutslap:I had been tinnking about the svt focus 6speed earlier today as well. I read on thoe treads linked above about the mondeo having a 6 speed trans and being possible to fit in. and to contact Terry Haines which I've been told is the man when it comes to rebuilding the mtx75. The six speed certainly is alluring. ahwell I just figured the bellhousing on the mtx75 looks removable and possibly it could bolt up to the svt focus. and I guess I was thinking the SVT focus has similar power and torque numbers so it could possibly be stronger but if not hey. I know I got to have my trans looked at when I do the 3L swap as it is making noise and everyone seems to be saying put in a quaife or a torsen diff too bad about the focus trans though 6-speed would be sweet.

i looked into this. Terry Haines said it was possible but since i'm over on the other side of the pond..it wasn't feasible to get it done. IIRC the top mount is different, speed sensor is different. I also found LSD more expensive. Not sure if the bellhousings swap over.. but Terry is the one to give an absolute yes or no... G.

Just an FYI...there is a thread stickied at the top of the old transaxle forums regarding this.

not only does it not bolt up, but its a weaker trans anyways.

It's my understanding that the FSVT 6Speed is the same 6speed Getrag used in the Mini CooperS and their transmissions held up very well. When I was a Service Advisor I never saw one come in with the transmission giving out or anything.

yeah, but how many 300+ WHP Mini's did you see? I know there are several high HP SVTF guys who have broken their trans (not sure exactly what part) and relatively few high HP MTX75s broken (once the diff is upgraded obviously). how many of the turbo SVTC guys have broken their MTX75?

Alot of them where the JCW now I know they aren't 300hp, but Mini owners do abuse their cars pretty hard too. If you want to throw in how many MTX75's have been broken by turbo SVTC, then lets not forget they are upgraded trans so in theory if the FSVT trans was upgraded then it would be a very nice upgrade (especially if the part that breaks is the diff, then throw in a torsen or soemthing and have some fun:cool:).

well I know as long as you get the LSD for the SVTF trans it is not bad at all.

03OrangeSVT on Focusfanatics.com was running 340 wheel torque through a getrag with an LSD before the zetec gave up the ghost.

they are a lot stronger than they say.

Torque, traction, and weight/inertia is what you have to consider when trying to push power through a gearbox. Getrag rated the gearbox for the svtf and cooper s at 200lbs of torque for some reason or another. I'm not saying that it can't handle more. I just don't fully understand why someone would wasn't to spend time and money for a sixth gear. I find that the gear ratios that came with the mtx75 to be very well suited for racing. Third and fourth are a little tall for my stock 2.5. The only thing that I would want in the six speed that the mtx75 doesn't offer is smooth shifts with really good feel. That was the most impressive thing to me when I compared the svtf to the svtc. The mini is even a little better than the svtf. I'm not sure if it's due to a better shifter, bushings, cables, or a combination there of.

Not bad, but not a trans I would want to run in a turbo SVT.
