Some Pics from the Race Shop

No, technically he isn't. Saleen is (was) a licensed automobile manufacturer, and has built (and since destroyed) a reputation for a long line of cool cars. A couple of neat parts doesn't put anyone into the same class as that.

This car is a one off show-car that was built by a well-known manufacturer, this is why it is "special". Personally there are things I like, and things I dislike about the car, but it definately holds a notable place in both Contour, and Saleen history, which is not something I (or anyone else) can say about your car (no offense intended though).

x2, couldn't have put it better myself.

And, many years ago, I was visiting the saleen facility in long beach and discussed this car with one of the engineering managers. It was sitting dusty in a corner even back then ~2001 or so. I was told that they had blown up six engines before giving up on the project for production.

interesting...

Would the sticker make it 1 of 1? Would the sticker mean it was actually built by an exotic car builder? Because I'm not sure stickers or badges actually mean anything unless it's backed up. Just as a type r badge on a civic does not a civic type r make. You don't have to like it, but when people come with some weak bull reasons why they don't like it, it comes off as jealousy.
so just because we dont like it for some reason means we are jealous of it somehow? that doesnt even make sense. i dont like the way the recent Cadillacs or riced out civics (riced out anything really) look either, does that make me jealous of them? hell no, it just means i dont like how they look.

Im certainly not jealous of the Saleen Contour, I know its a cool piece of Contour and Saleen history, i get that. I just dont like how it looks and that everyone is praising the car when most everything on it could be bought and installed on any SVT. IMO the only difference between this car and say an SVT with an ugly body kit but all the other mods, is that this one was built by Saleen.

What a bunch of jealous haters!

I simply want to point out this man holds two of the most rarest contours. Bondurant and saleen contours. You guys are disrespecting a new comer because your opinions are overwhelmingly blinding your common courtesy.

This man didn't need to come in here and help keep the cars history in place withing our forum. But he did..and to that extent the haters came piling in. It's not like this guy is claiming some profound hp or track numbers: He shared a car that we all appreciate for it's rareness and that should be the end of it.

And I do appreciate it for the rareness that it is. Like mentioned before, I too like some aspects of it and hate others.

So full of win!

Elradio,
Your car will never featured in a mag or be quiet as coveted by this community, so please don't compare your car to this one.

mine also doesn't split the community quite as much as this car due to is design.

That's because no one cares about your care. Your thread would be at the bottom by days end. This one will live on forever!

The styling of a good show car is intended to be very polarizing, it gets people talking about the car, whether they love it or hate it. Seems like Saleen did a good job with this one then, especially considering we're still debating it here ~10 years later . . .

The front is almost really good...the rear not so much

Don't forget this car was built in what, 1999? Who cares what you can do now, Saleen did this when the car was still in production. Good for everyone who can buy a $3k Contour and put $3k into mods. Monetarily, I had WAY more wrapped up into my old SVT than a vast majority of this site, aside from some of the other old schoolers who bought their cars new and were modding back when modding these cars wasn't cheap. But in no way would I say my old car would ever be more sought after and recognized than the Saleen car. This car has a cool history, and people are still talking about it today, 10 years later. And as long as CEG is alive, and probably even if it ever were to die, the Saleen car will still be talked about. A lot of us can and have built faster, better handling, better braking and arguably, better looking Contours than Saleen. None of these things put our hard work into the same category as this car.

I don't know about that. It is a Ford Contour. How many people out there actually know there are SVT Contours out there? Most people think they are exactly the same thing has a regular tour. With the Saleen I would assume that 99.9% of the people out there would think it is a fake. Then you have to argue with them that would end up like this..., yes it is a 1 of 1....no it isn't supercharged, they kept blowing up the enigne....yes they went threw a lot of engines.....i know you don't like the body kit.....YES! IT IS REAL ALREADY!! Certificate from Saleen....I have no idea what you are talking about. You called them and all they did was laugh and were happy someone took it off their hands? RUH ROH!

You kind of just proved my point, that people will still be talking about the Saleen Contour, whether that talk is all debate or not. Nobody, except for yourself and maybe a handful of people will have ANY idea what a "Pudmobile" is, or whatever you call it, who "Pud" is, or what his real name is for that matter. They will know that it isn't a collector's item. There are hundreds, if not thousands of Contour enthusiasts that know the Saleen Contour exists, and that it in fact is a collector's item.

It does say saleen on the side, which is an instantly recognizable moniker by nearly all of the car loving community here in the US.

I betcha if you drove that thing to a car show, it would get thousands of times more attention than any SVT on this site. Just cause they didnt complete it doesnt make it any less special. It is a one of a kind car that was so close to being something that you could have actually bought. I would say that that puts it on the same level as any other concept car, but how many concept cars do you see for sale normally?
