Some Pics from the Race Shop

meh about the saleen svt. I'm not ashamed to say I find the look of it to be hideous. But whats important to keep in mind that this is a build from 10 years ago, the trueth is the car is still more complete of a build (and likely better track tuned) than any independent. While there are options available today that may surpass certain aspects, this is still one of the definitive references of a well rounded build.

to the original poster, your information and musings are always appreciated here. You own a special piece of machinery that hasn't been documented as well as it could have been. And while I completely encourage taking the car even further performance wise, I hope everything you do to it is reversible to the way it was delivered from saleen.

but from the photos you posted, it looks like its gone to a good home. congrats on the accusation.

that saleen is a riced out POS and is slow on top of it. sorry. all the CF interior parts should go into the SF, and the saleen tour' should be driven over at the next monster jam. the yellow car can stay :P nice shop. i dont understand why you like contours it looks like you have a real shop lol

Geez....your a straight up jackass! Coming from the guy who used garage door molding as a front splitter.......:nonono:

He does have half a point though. As it sits, there isn't a whole lot about the car besides body parts. IF it came with a working supercharger, then it would be quite the car. Since it doesn't is just has some brake upgrades, custom body kit, suspension and seats. I mean baggeds car is more impressive than this thing.

I know it's a bit of a strange comparison, but it's close. One is built by an exotic car manufacturer, one homebuilt heavy modified version of what would normally be an econobox.

So Your saying...when people post pictures of their new rims and lowering kit on these cars...You post that drooling face with a "man your car looks good".

But this car having.
1. Full body kit Custom fenders front and rear bumpers
2. Brake upgrades
3. Eibach springs
4. Koni struts
5. Saleen shifter
6. Saleen gauges
7. Rear sway bar
8. Upgraded seats
9. True dual exhaust
10. Front strut tower brace
11. Saleen 19" custom 1 off wheels
12. Functional vented hood
13. Who cares about the CF trim peices...

The saleen isn't something you can go out and reproduce unless you have the car yourself.

Baggeds car air suspension can be bought. You don't need his car and the dimensions to make a kit. Also baggeds car does have a nice paint job. But you can paint that saleen...just like how bagged painted his svt.

It's just impossible to reproduce that car unless the car is in your hands.
Now do i like how it looks? Not today...but when i saw photos of it in Ford muscle mustang magazine back in 1999...i was ting bricks on how good it looked!

So, my car has an agruablly better suspension set up, more power, and a lot of the same type of mods as that car (rear sway bar, brakes (not as nice I know), shifter....does it make it just as nice? I am just saying because it has a custom body kit doesn't mean a whole lot. Look at the custom body kit bagged worked on. I understand what the car is! I get it....BUT besides a few custom parts it isn't any special. My car has custom parts as well...look at my dash gauge pod...if it said saleen on it would it make it 10000% better?

exactly, the only thing truly special about the car is the body kit, and its ugly anyways, and the wheels. everything else on the car, currently, can be bought

I do think the wide body aspect of the car looks great...it is just that the rest of it is out of place.

yeah. its the hard edges that kills it for me. if they were all smooth curves it would be so much better (although the rear bumper would still be ugly).

Would the sticker make it 1 of 1? Would the sticker mean it was actually built by an exotic car builder? Because I'm not sure stickers or badges actually mean anything unless it's backed up. Just as a type r badge on a civic does not a civic type r make. You don't have to like it, but when people come with some weak bull reasons why they don't like it, it comes off as jealousy.

Well, my gauge pod is a 1 of 1. It is made by Pud...he did manufacture heatshields and Projector headlights for our cars....technically he IS a manufacturer. So the arguement comes down to, is the Saleen > Pudmobile?

No, technically he isn't. Saleen is (was) a licensed automobile manufacturer, and has built (and since destroyed) a reputation for a long line of cool cars. A couple of neat parts doesn't put anyone into the same class as that.

This car is a one off show-car that was built by a well-known manufacturer, this is why it is "special". Personally there are things I like, and things I dislike about the car, but it definately holds a notable place in both Contour, and Saleen history, which is not something I (or anyone else) can say about your car (no offense intended though).

And, many years ago, I was visiting the saleen facility in long beach and discussed this car with one of the engineering managers. It was sitting dusty in a corner even back then ~2001 or so. I was told that they had blown up six engines before giving up on the project for production.
