my very first 3l..

Dude I was in your same position like a year ago. My car was sitting in the garage with no motor in it and a busted tranny sitting next to it and I had no job at the time. I thought I was going to get mine running in like a month to but this car shtuff takes a lot of time and money, and the only way to get around that is do things half assed and then have to do it again, so really there is no way to get around it. Mine took over a year just to install my 3L and it turned out pretty nice i think, but now look at it, its sitting back in the garage with something wrong with it. Money, time, and aggravation is all part of modding/fixing cars.

Did you look at what it will cost you to do a full re-build? You can take a look at my part's list for reference...

There are TTY bolts you should replace for the girdle (lower block), head bolts and rod bolts. I paid $145 for bolts plus gaskets and rod/main bearings. Not saying you should or shouldn't do it just didn't know if you looked at what a re-build will cost.

yeah see going the full route of building the motor piece by piece is probably a lil out of my league for a first swap... i mean switchin over the valve covers oil pan etc porting the intake etc is all stuff i feel comfortable with. but doing a complete rebuild may be just a lil too much for me to handle... unless i can get someone to rebuild it cheap nearby im just gonna have to sell it and buy another engine in better shape from the get go... i really dont wanna have to crack into the block cuz im doing this swap mostly by myself with the help from yous guys

just a lil update so today i completely removed all the wiring harness remainder of hoses etc all out of the way she is ready to come out except for these damn tranny cables and the exhaust( someone had already deleted the resonator and installlad a straight pipe) and for some reason the bolts on the cat are tack welded? prolly gonna have to grind those bolts off. oh also with the tranny cables i t looks like theres a lil bracket that bolts to the tranny. should i just remove the tranny cables with the bracket or do i need to be pushing in that lil yellow/organge circle button and jig the cable off somehow or something?

Even unbolting the bracket, you still have to pop them off of the shift tower. Sometimes can be a real pain! Just be careful not to break them...really the only advice I have.

Anyone have some tricks-of-the-trade to share on getting those off the tower?

I always just pull out the big pry bar and go in from the wheel well an pop them off. Has worked like a charm every time so far.

i found a buyer for my 3l...he plans to rebuild it and use on an escape. awesome for me he picks it up tomo. now i can start looking again for a better engine

Csvtguy I will keep my eyes out on if we get one in at work...I can check the aurora store as well this afternoon and see what they have for taurus/sable.

freakin awesome i found a motor better than i could have asked for its a 02 merc sable engine with only 10k miles!! i went and saw it today after work and is gorgeous! so i put a deposit on it. should have it home within 2 weeks.

I would have bet your old 3.0 was running Pennzoil and the owner left it in 6 - 7 k miles. It probably wasn't hurt but Pennzoil dino oil builds up sludge far faster than other oils. It still protected well, just looked terrible.

Sounds like you did much better this time.

I've always heard that as well. Whenever I pop a valve cover and see that yellow color everywhere or sludge I think Pennzoil. It's like they want it to match the bottle. lol

well whatever the hell it was, it was horrible.....i heard many times from different peeps that it really may have been just fine after some good flushing and maybe some synthetic oil use. but lets face it it was scary! and after looking at my 125k svt i was like woah!. even my 86 bronco 2 was a night and day difference!!! lol i knew that engine was a lil iffy but i was just to anxious to start playing to let it go. gambled with the idea back and forth. but ultimately it was you ceg'ers out there that shoved me into selling it which i am much happier now that i did that. i should have it home within about a week or so and ill take some pics of the new one
