My 86...

Wont cost you any beer, just bring it up sans valves if thats possible. We wont do much porting on it cause you dont want it to be gutless down low and scream for 1500 rpms on top then shift.

Josh is the man with the touch Eric, your perf upgrades are in good hands, not that your hands weren't enough but more help is a good thing!

We wont do too much porting, we'll polish it up real good though. The bigger you make the ports the higher up the powerband is gonna be. Its not how big you make the ports its how you shape em and the velocity at which the fuel and air travel through them, plus you have to have some turbulence in the ports to make the air/fuel move. Bigger isn't always better, especially on a small displacement 4 cyl.

There are a lot of unnecessary bumps and lines in the ports and combustion chambers that create resistance and hot spots. If I had the dough, I would use Toyota Formula Atlantic oversized valves, but those require special cut seats and oversized guides. Not cheap, but that's how you get 240hp from a NA 1.6l, and damn does 12,000rpm sound good! ;)

Not much to show right now, just my top secret amazing head tool and busted trees everywhere lol. I still have to clean the valves and parts, i'll take the head this week.

Head is dismantled and dropped off at the shop for a bath and a shave. I found a suitable engine at the junkyard today. They had it inventoried wrong. They said it was a 1.6l but I tab the VIN and got 1.8l. Then I was wandering around today looking at stuff (sorry Dillion, no sweet Miata parts :( ) and looked at a car I saw last time I was there. It doesn't have a hood, so the engine ID sticker is gone. Plus it was hit on the driver's side so I couldn't get to the main VIN sticker. Anyways, I'm standing there looking at it and I saw an official looking Toyota paper on the ground. It was the original dealer invoice for the car! It's a 94 corolla 1.8 auto. Damn thing was $16,000 new! But they're gonna give me a deal on it, it's a running engine with a 90 day warranty with the head, manifolds, other accessories for $350. I'll sell the stuff I don't need and make that money back.

I'm using this engine for a larger displacement. My current motor is 1.6l and this new one is 1.8l. I will use the twin cam big port head from an '86 GTS and matching pistons from another GTS. I'll use the 1.8l block, crank, rods, and oil system. Even though these are two motors from two different decades, everything will bolt together. The oil and coolant passages match up since the two are from the same A engine family.

4AC is my old 1.6l SOHC carb motor for the ignition and electrical
4AGE is the 1.6l DOHC GTS FI motor for the head and pistons
7AFE is the new 1.8l for the stroked block, crank, and rods

So put those together and you've got a 7AGE hybrid. Stock electronics and a bad tune, they make 110hp and 105tq. But mine will be tuned proper with adjustable cam gears and have the proper sized exhaust. the stock 1.75" won't cut it. I'll run an OBX header to an HKS cat delete to a 2.25" pipe under the diff to a muffler. Hopefully I can keep it quiet with a resonator.

Hey Eric I was thinking, your car is an 86, the new engine is a 94 and now you need something from a 2000-09 and finally a 2010 to present, cover 4 decades of Toyota's parts into your car, what do you think?

Picked up the head this morning. Not quite as clean as I hoped, but then again the last head I did myself looked brand new when I was done. The face looks good, but there are some rough spots around the combustion chambers. What do you expect from 27 year old aluminum.

Here you go Eric!
