My 3L build.

a little update , going to tidy up as much of the little things i have left to do tomorrow and finally see if it will start. that being said, one of the small things i need to finish up is the vacuum hoses on the back of the intake manifold. ive got the hose to the fpr on, the one to the egr capped off due to egr delete from prt, and at a loss as to where the other two go. also there is a grey hose coming from the firewall that i remember being attached in there somewhere as well.

picked up the hose from the junkyard to bypass the oil cooler from the waterpump. just picked up a standard v6 hose from another tour. gotta get the passenger side axle in, and bolt up the ypipe as well. fill with fluids, hopefully no leaks !!

Ok sitting in the car right now trying to get it to run but all I'm getting is it to turn over. I can here compression in the intake, spark plugs and coil pack are correct and I hear the fuel pump now that I've pulled up the rear seat. Also getting a higher pitched metallic sound inconsistently while cranking. Thinking that may be the input shaft against the cut off pilot bearing, or maybe metal shavings from the porting. Either way just trying to get this thing started for once, any ideas?

First common thing check the three plugs on the passenger side. They have a tendency to slip off. Your bushing should have been removed or cut flush, so no rubbing should occur.

ok so ill try to list things ive checked and tried to rule out.

one ground from battery to waterpump
one ground from battery to body
ecu plug is bolted in and grounded
coilpack strap is attached
plugs wires are in correct order
cam and crank sensor plugs are secure
fuel pressure was present at the schrader valve the first time i checked it but now i cant seem to get anything out of it.
fuel pump is working now, at first i couldnt hear it so i pulled up the rear seat so i can make sure i do here it.

Also, where are you guys getting a replacement oring for the power steering hardline that goes into the pump? my original was shot and i used one for a various oring kit from advanced but its not working out.

a ground does not go to the waterpump??? one goes to the tranny right below the waterpump

in this pic, there was one attached to the old motor on a bolt of the waterpump housing, so thats where i reattached on the 3l.

Is the one that mounts to the transmission also attached to the drivers side fender near the fender duct for the intake?

that one foe sure goes on the tranny. and yes theres another one right under the intake. (under the cone filter if you have an sri)

also noticed the oil pressure light stays on, not sure if it supposed to while cranking or not. I switched the sensor from my 2.5 to my 3l when i swapped motors.

Well the squeeks coming from the engine sounds like it's the drive belt.

However you need three things for the engine to start... air, fuel, spark. So I'd start with checking those things... pull a plug and have someone crank it over and see if it sparks. For the fuel turn the key on and let the pump prime, see if your getting fuel pressure at the rail. If so then check your injector connections and check the resistance across the injectors to see if they are with spec. If any of the above fails then start to look into that particular system further or replacing the components found to be bad.

If I was a betting man, I'd say your not getting spark. Make sure you have the ground strap underneath the coil pack connected. Make sure you have the wiring connected to the capacitor for the coil pack, which is the single purple wire with blue stripe (IIRC) going to the connector located to the passenger side of the coil pack. Make sure your crank and cam sensors are plugged in and the wiring going to them is not cracking and shorting out. Remove the plastic wrap and electrical tape to expose the wiring further up from the connectors as necessary.

hes got my wiring harness his harness is fine. Id say fuel, spark, or pulse wheel... that pulse wheel gets alot of people.

I've got a pic of the pulse wheel in the position I put it in before install in a batch of pics I put in the thread. I believe it is in the right position, but maybe i'm wrong. I'll go back over some connections. I know I've got the ground strap on the coil pack for sure though.

This is how your pulse wheel should look...

Also from an old thread...

Keyway facing the gap = no start

Keyway facing away from gap = good

Trust me, I put the 3.0 in with the wheel on wrong.... pulled it back to fix that (among a couple other things)

What about the possibility if bad gas? I added some seafoam to the tank about a month ago to maybe help clean it up, there was a couple gallons that have been sitting in the car for a good length of time.
