My 3L build.

...and side note, is this the right 05 escape oil pan most people use for the swap? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dorman-OE-S...ruck_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr#ht_1327wt_1139

You should get this oil pan...

Whatever happened to the dry dump setup that was made for our platform from way back when. I think it was by accusump, but I only saw one or two cars run it.

That was not a dry sump setup that you are thinking of... Accusump was merely an oil accumulator that in the event of a pressure drop would release extra oil into the oil pan to prevent the oil pump from sucking air. What I have shown is one of only two systems available for a dry sump setup on a duratec engine.

Ahh, i knew it was something along the lines, but I havent seen one in probably ten years. I think I'm just going to keep the taurus pan on there for now. with having to pick up new headers and ypipe to replace my oem svt stuff, im still just looking to get the car back on the road here soon. been without a car since march, and im tired of it sitting in the garage. Ive owned it since APril of last year, and it hasnt been driven since I bought it.

another update,

got almost everthing off the 2.5. about ready to throw it in a dark hole and never really to see it again. But one question, is it worth keeping the oil cooler off the old motor and putting it on the 3l?

besides that, got the new gaskets in the timing cover and valve covers, got the pulse wheel flipped and installed the covers. reused the 3l crank pulley, not sure if that was a correct move or not though. also got the upper mount off the old motor, ground down, and bolted down into the 3l.

here are a few pics from yesterdays progress.

I think this is totally up to you and depends on how you plan to drive the car. I did not put the oil cooler on my 3L but I did save it just in case I ever decide to use it. If you are going to track the car or run it really hard I guess I would put it on, but for normal street driving it isn't necessary in my opinion.

I believe the newer 3L engines have better cooling than the 2.5 too.

We don't install them when we swap 3L's for people. Usually it's because their stock 2.5L blew up and we don't want to take the chance that there are bearing chunks stuck in it. Nobody has had an issue running without them.

so just loop the hose from the waterpump to the coolant passage between the heads.

You could do that, or cap them, which ever will work. Another thought would be to buy an aftermarket water to oil cooler or buy a new OEM cooler. All depends on what your looking to do and how much you are willing to spend.

If your after it a brand new 2005 Ford Escape oil cooler can be had from Tousley Ford for $145.72

Ill probably just loop it for the time being. i dont have any serious performance plans for the car. just picked it up for a daily, that will hopefully suit me well for awhile. other than doing the msds headers and the optimized ypipe i picked up, not really much more going into performance parts other than a tune. upgraded to a spec stage 2 for added security that most mentioned is wise and some new cv shafts and it will start me on the right path.

Also, was i correct in reusing the 3l crank pulley when i swapped the timing cover over from the 2.5? or should i use the 2.5?

another small update. Scored a set of new WeaponR headers from Sam over the weekend. should have them in the next few days so hopefully i can get the motor ready to install by the end of the week. slowly but surely.

sweet deal on the headers! As a Ford Dealer Heavy Tech i must tell you, engine suffered mechanical failure, they say replace oil cooler AND intake manifold if it cannot be properly cleaned. like the v8 trucks and 4 cylinders with internal IMRCs, at least you can chemically do something with ours. at the bare minimum that oil cooler however is never to see use again after being along for the ride with your old longblock. Also when i 3 liter cars i use the oem hose shtuff. just seeing the 2 side by side youll see what i mean for not using the cooler.

more parts are here.

i hope to get the rest of the porting done and trans attached with the harness on the motor and ready to install it on tuesday. gotta work for the next three days so not much time to work on it until then. i have to get the motor and trans back in before next weekend as my gf and I are moving out of the house, and will have to get the car out of the garage. as long as i can get the motor and tranny back in, i can leave it on the street at the new house and just finish it up from there.

another update. got the porting done, although not very pretty, i hope it does the job. got the trans back on and alot of the wiring hooked back up. going to start putting it back in on saturday, and hope to give it a shot at running by monday. gotta figure out what to do with the little bit of gas thats been in the car for the past year.

just got the motor in yesterday. got a lot of things hooked up yesterday, still have some things left for today. maybe give it a shot at turning over as well. have a question on the cooling system since im removing the oil cooler. The outlet off the waterpump needs to go to one of the hoses that go into the heater core correct? and the other hose that comes out of the heater core goes into the pipe between the heads where the sensors are?

couple pics
