Is a Cold Air Kit much quieter than the Short Ram Air?

I had the short ram air but found it to be much too loud under acceleration so I took it off.

I would think the full cold air kit would provide more power and be quieter, no?

more power? umm that is debated for our cars. but it will be a little bit quieter. with the full cold air kit you must cut a big ass hole in your car.

Hmmm. Then maybe I should just sell the shorty ram air thing (K&N+Adapter) and buy a square K&N that fits the stock air box.

Anyone have any input?

For me the K&N RU-3530 I have is just way too loud to the point that it seems silly. Especially here in San Francisco where it starts roaring loudly just from slowly driving up a steep hill (And there's lots of them here).

Is there a square K&N replacement for the stock filter?
And if so is it any good?

Yeah, I'd say try and nab up an SVT intake. Conical shape yet not open element. Personally though, I think the k&n sounds freakin sweet on WOT.

What are you, like 60? An open element filter too loud. Turn your hearing aids down.

I'm 33 and prefer to have a respectable car.

Having a car that's roaring like a race car as you slowly drive up a hill is way too ricey for me. And I also don't wanna deal with heat-soak which I think was giving me trouble last summer despite installing a rubber maid heat shield.

That good enough for you Kermmie?

i just think it has a healthy grumble to it with a short ram. sounds nice and angry when you get on it :). How is it too loud pulling into your drive? It doesnt really get any noisier until almost half throttle. If thats too loud for you dont even think about touching the exhaust.

It is you and your car but you're like an old guy. It doesn't sound ricey and it's not nare nonna bit loud. Hearable yeah but not loud. There's plenty of cars that come from the factory louder than an open element duratec.
I mean that's ok if you want to stay quiet. I'd suggest not trying to make the car faster at all. Yeah you can do it, but if you don't touch the exhaust/intake, you're gonna be pretty limited.

Go unbolt your exhaust after the y pipe. You'll never again think an open filter is loud.

get a svt intake! then you wont have the sound and you will breath better.

So for us behind on the times, what exactly is the difference between say the normal Contour/Mystique intake and the SVT intake? Any pics?

Just curious as I did not know there WAS a difference.:blackeye:
