I never read what they did to the cars for Cash For Clunkers.

I never thought about it that way, it will definetly be more fun at the JY with all these junkers in there..... I wish I could go tomorrow!

ok, i've had enough...we need to arm ourselves and mobilize:

Come on now, no one is forced to use the program. Who says "cash for clunkers program is in effect, now I have to trade in my vehicle, I don't have a choice." Doesn't happen, plain and simple.

On the plus side, more junked vehicles = more junkyard vehicles = more fun for me on junkyard trips!

So what happens 6 months from october(i believe is when they are ending the program, as of right now) when all the cars are sent to the scrap yard and you can't find parts for your car? Oh, guess your pretty much forced to junk that car and buy a new car then. So essentially, they are forcing you to buy a new car.

There will always be parts. At least for as long as we are alive. It's not the big doom and gloom that it's being made out to be. Before Cash For Clunkers, people were trading in cars daily and after Cash For Clunkers, they still will.

As far as the "forcing", it's not true. You still have options, always have and always will. Don't believe the media hype.

we saw a beautiful 00-01 Cherokee Limited, really nice dark blue paint with perfect factory wheels parked out behind a Mazda dealer today. My wife was soooo upset. She misses her old Cherokee so bad....

I hope they are not planning to kill the typhoon? Cause them trucks are rare enough as it is. And some fast trucks of there days!!

and could be sold in terrible condition for more than that 4500 max they got from C4C

It is sad to see some of the cars being traded in but you also have to blame the owner for not trying to sell it themselves to someone that would love and cherish it.

It really is too bad they aren't stricter with the guidlines and what qualifies. I have a friend that is ditching her 96 or 97 Grand Cherokee for a new Focus. Something like that makes sense to me, but when you see much much newer cars in excellent condition getting junked, all because of gas mileage, it's ridiculous.

Give the cars away for free to a family who needs it at least!

Well we knew that was gonna happen when they reworked the bill to be gas mileage based instead of age and emissions based like many state programs are.

All this talk about the program/government being stupid and people being forced to buy a new car sounds foolish. If you could sell your car for 4.5k or more and traded it in, then that was really dumb, but the dealers are not stupid, they will take your business. What dealer would not prefer cash? And you could still get the other deals they are offering, if not go to a different dealer!

I'm sure you all heard about the Maserati that got traded in..... A great pity to destroy that car, but it was worth it to the owner (I bet he could have parted it out for more... but oh well)

I could see that if people try to sell the car for months and no one bites, then of course they are going to get rid of it anyway they can..still sad, but its the truth.
