I never read what they did to the cars for Cash For Clunkers.

wow this really makes me angry ..... i am no political guru but i just think this is just the biggest waste of time and money and good cars. instead of destroying the cars that get alright gas mileage and in good shape, just give them to people or organizations that really could use them! insted they just want us to buy a new car to save the dealerships!

were if you just keep your foot out off the gas petal and drive smart and keep ur car running like it should you can get good mpgs, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKTOyiKLARk
this vid says it all! (and they say something about the mondeo (2:37)

.. now like people said before they might be getting some cars that really should not be on the road, but isn't that what for the state inspection for? idk i just think this was a good idea done horribly wrong...

but thats just my 2 cents..

Honestly I can't believe you guys are surprised..... do you really expect something better from Democrats. this is how they think and so expect more of this. yeah seeing and hearing them destroy perfectly good engines pisses me off and most of this money is helping out Japanese auto makers (as was predicted) :nonono::nonono::nonono: and yeah nothing like going and signing up for a new car payment in a recession no thank you

This is pretty stupid if you ask me. I've seen some pretty nice cars in the video's I've watched...and all they do is kill them with Sodium Silicate. I've wondered what they do to them after they're traded in...but I never thought to look it up. :nonono:

it's silica, sand, and water...and damn did that bmw take it on the chin! the motor was still not seized when the video stopped!!! in the words of del preston - "he cannot be killed by conventional weapons"

i thought this aurora was extremely brutal:

until i saw the volvo one....

this one sucks

I thought they were being crushed, didn't realize they were blowing them up too

how the hell does that car qualify as a clunker, and, how exactly is all of this good for the environment????

Not every state has inspections that would take a car off the road. IL we only have to have emissions (depending on what part of the state you're in also), they don't look at brakes, tires, etc. No CEL, no codes, gas cap vapor passes and you're on your way.

Not saying I totally agree with clunkers program, but I understand the premise behind it though. From my understanding from a co-worker that just did this they can strip all salvagable parts such as seats etc before crushing the car.

I would like to trade our Windstar in but I can't afford a second car payment and I can't justify letting someone do that to a strong running 3.8L engine. Sure it needs some work (IMRC stuck open) and some minor tune up stuff, but other than that it runs great.

The sodium silicate is only producing steam out of the exhaust, so that's not hurting anything.

I'm guessing the rest of the car is going to be crushed and melted down and reused in more cars probably.

i disagree...i vote fried piston rings and lots of oil being burned before the motor finally seizes...lol not to mention the volvo spewing blood and guts all over the place. i'm sure they cleaned that right up.

forget about driving up the prices on used motors and various other parts from people who still can't afford a new car...not like half of these "clunkers" get much worse mileage than the cars people are being bribed into buying.

utterly stupid program...

Have to do something to get the money back we put into the car companies, however. And if this is it, then the government will do it.

I work at a salvage yard and i read over the paper work with the guidelines for the salvage program of these cars.
The only thing that cant be salvaged is the engine block
The driveline must be sold seperately(trans, rear end)
The actual chassis must be crushed within 180 days, so that leaves plenty of time to strip the car and salvage usable pieces from it , just not the engine block

I did notice the Volvo spitting everything up. Most things I've read though say the oil is to be drained. and replaced with 2 quarts of the liquid glass.

these videos should prove to the dumbvernment that this program is stupid.

like someone said i am sure they are cleaning up all the fluids these things are dumping onto the ground. and not all of them are being killed on pavement so the oil and coolant are going right into the ground.

and it makes me sick to see what some people are trading in.

Couldn't they at least load up each "clunker" with Democrats and then line them all up at a monster truck event? We could kill two birds with one stone.

Wait, make that one bird with one stone. The clunkers never did anything wrong.

and it makes me sick to see what some people are trading in.

someone on a gto board said he wonders how many C4 Vette's and 94-96 impala SS' qualify for this and are being traded in.

i think an impala in good shape will still fetch more than what you would get from the gub'ment for this program anyway.

still...if i see a vid of one of those i'll cry. that's like....murder :blackeye:
