the yard was PACKED with CFC cars. they all had tags on the engines stating that the engines were no good

saw a few CFC cars at opne of my local yards this weekend.
some perfectly good looking cars too.

that is just plain wrong! i can understand not being allowed to resell the engines but why blow them up! those parts could potentially be reused. just dismantle the engines rather than blow them up! for God's sake people! look what the idiot democrats voted for!

I can understand wrecking the engines. In Germany they have a similar program and they have a problem with the cars being resold in Eastern Europe.

You mean the dealers? They'd be able to make bank on that sort of stuff. :nonono:

The dealers can only take certain things off though because there are limits they agree to by participating in the program. A dealership relatively close is rumored to have been letting the staff take what they to try and sell but someone snitched and they had to stop offering the program. I'm also not sure how much used pieces from a clunker are worth when it was traded in as a clunker in the first place.

Fixed!

True Some are clunkers and should be SENT TO THE JY or the SCRAPPER! Blowing it up and WASTING MONEY on SODIUM SILICATE and Mechanics TIME. Is PLAIN STUPID!

They are SAVING YOU MONEY? BS, sorry to say if thats what our tax dollars are going to, such garbage idea's!

Wish I knew the sucker who came up with the idea.....Id make em feel like a total douche for the rest of his life!

Head to Europe and good luck! I'm sure they'd love to hear what someone from the colonies thinks.

lulz! Lemme get my hands on a Euro and Burn/Crush the hell out of it! A nice Porsche or Ferrari and they will see how dumb they are.

Maybe when they ask why....

"It was a 1995 Porsche Turbo, there are new cars that are better!"

We'll see how quick this cash for clunkers will come to a stop.

Sorry Im just mad and thinking about that volvo and all those nice cars that are just gone now!

It will be over by November at the latest so you only have a few more months to stay worked up. In my mind not many "nice" cars gets under 18mpg so none of the clunkers have upset me. But I will say that I saw a lady trade in a mint Crown Vic (probably a Sunday car) that I think I would have loved to have.

You obviously missed my point. The point I was making was that THAT EXACT TYPE OF THING should have been allowed! The dealers should have been able to sell such items in order to make a larger profit.

I didnt miss your point at all. Supposedly there is a list of things the dealer is allowed to take before the cars are junked and crushed so I assume some are going to try to sell parts and make some extra profit. My point though is what kind of profit can you really make selling well used parts off clunkers when the only buyers are other clunker drivers who would be better off trading in as well.

Well that's just it. A lot of these "clunkers" are perfectly good automobiles that are completely paid off. Instead, people are getting "forced" into buying a new car and putting themselves into more debt. The whole thing is whacked out.

If credit was as available as it was 2 years ago I would totally agree but it isnt in a lot of places. The type of folks that used to qualify when it was actually the last thing they needed are finding it harder to get financing. There was actually a story on the news about this very thing with people being concerned that this program was hurting people more than it was helping.

I'd have to think that the cost of paying a few tech's to take parts off the large amounts of cars being traded in for this isn't cost effective for them. They can make more money trading them off to scrap/junk yards and making those same few techs stay on their regular routines since most dealerships charge $70+ per hour in labor.

The only thing that cant be resold is the engine block , and they have 6 months till the car has to be crushed.thats plenty of time to strip a car, we crush up to three times a year at the yard i work at and we crush 100s of cars each time.
Its no different if people were wrecking these cars and they were going to the salvage yard.
People wreck nicer cars than these everyday in every city in every state
