I have a question for the 3L builds out there... How much have you spent on it? How long was the build? I'm looking at purchasing a SVT with a slipped timing belt and thinking it would be cheaper just to do a 3L.

you would need more parts time and money to install a 3L into your zetec equiped contour then it is worth ...

fyi a good 3L should run about $4~500 depending on where you live.

I kept watching Ebay for one to show up at an LKQ locally. After a couple of months one pops up and I'm the only bidder...$198 and no shipping.

I'd assume you are asking for the cost of the total build and not just the cost of the engine like everyone else seems to be assuming. It really depends on what type of 3L build you go with and if you are going to do everything yourself.

BrApple answered his question right away..... so I only told him what prices I "know" of....

If you do all the work yourself or with free labor its ~1,000. That is assumeing you are able to get the motor for around 400-450. The rest is new seals, gaskets, etc. All new fluids.

Sure it can be done for even less but I find that to be a good figure to assume.

Most will end up buying a couple of new tools, breaking something along the way, or discovering something that is broken.

He needs:
motor
trans
clutch
2.5L mounts
wire harness
shift tower and linkage
subframe?
at least $1500 for just what is listed above[/bold]

Uh, I don't think it would be worth it

First build was pretty expensive buying all new everything, probably in the 2000 range. Second build probably 1500, includes stage 3+ but no labor or anything.

I think that is a tough question. It is dependent on a lot of variables. Like here in Washington everyone get to pay a ton for engines, most of the wrecking yards have gone out of business. I got mine in Portland at LQK for $700.00 but it had 3000 miles on it.

I would say start by planning on $1500 then if it is less its a bonus.
