GROUP BUY: Duraflex Mirko Splitter official GB thread

and btw, i spoke with pete about these last week. he said ED is confident that the next revision will fit perfectly and just wants to make them and ship them right over. i, me, svt4stv, aka STEVE, said "no, we originally agreed for them to send ONE over to be test fitted on a car first. that's what id like to do." pete said, "but it would be faster to get them out if we just take their word and just shp them over. if theyre wrong, ed will make new ones with better fitment, at their expense (this wasnt said in a "sinister/coniving" way). i then replied that if they were still ill-fitting, then we'd have to wait even longer for them to be revised again. better to add two extra weeks now and make sure they fit as desired. instead of shipping 15 more over that will end up getting scrapped again. i told him i would take MY csvt down to ED (about 50 miles from me) to have them play around with it and make sure its good. which quite possibly would consume my entire day. so, just because pete is in here posting pics and answering questions for me, dont think that im not involved with this. my time is worth money. especially if i have to travel across town and wait while they check things out. then sit in GOD AWFUL so cal traffic to get back. 50 miles in bad LA traffic takes about two hours! so think about that before you spew out some random bs in which you dont have a clue as to what youre talking about.

Sorry to see you're getting the short end of the stick on this Steve... I had a funny feeling when it was taking longer than anticipated that you'd start catching a lot of bad flack on here. Even though I'm not in on this GB I'm glad you're taking the time and putting in the legwork to get a splitter that will fit RIGHT and not be flimsy as I've heard the originals were.

I'm sure you know this but you have to remember these guys here aren't like those you've come to know on the Mustang forums (and others)... probably the majority on here would whine and complain at what a set of your wheels would cost for a Contour. Hell the wheels would probably be more than what some people have paid for the cars themselves lol!

i really dont have time to try to mess around with trying to test fit this one that i have on my own car. it wouldnt even be installed till who knows when. ive got my hands tied up right now with a mustang project car.

id be willing to pay for (out of my own $$) one of these first 15 splitters and to have it shipped to worldtour to check out and test fit OR a person of his choosing if he doesnt have time/access to do so. ie rara, todras, etc... then he can keep it, donate it to SZ, sell it and buy beer, sell it and apply the $$ to keeping the servers running whatever. he allows us to peddle stuff here and doesnt charge vendor fees. if there were vendor fees, i can almost guarantee you that nobody would make/sell anything for these cars any more.

then he/or his designee, can take pics and post up about the fitment and yada yada about these first 15. if they say they suck, then we have the others destroyed. if they say its worth people living with, then cool. people who want to save a few bucks can then grab them.

thanks for your supportive words shannon. but, the first batch are not flimsy at all. theyre pretty damn good. its just that we're told they'll have the SAME fitment as the original mirkos, which is causing some people to get all emotional about. people who arent in the GB or even going to buy one

as my last post, after you posted, offered, ill pay out of my own pocket, to have one shipped to worldtour or a person of his choice, for them to give an unbiased opinion of the splitter and share with everyone. and its not even the final version! its one of 15 that wont be made again, which i dont even have to buy if i dont want to. wost case scenario is they have a duraflex paperweight on their hands, im out a few hundred and ed destroys the rest of the first 15. then only ed and i lose. OR i can just have them all trashed from the get go and forget they ever happened. that's easier for me and costs me nothing.

No problemo Steve... I know how you are and you're willing to work with people. I hate it when people like that get a bad rap from people that get butthurt over something like this and make it out like you're trying to hoodoo them. I know how particular you are about things and you want to get it right I'm sure.

BTW I was talking about the "original" Mirko's being flimsy, the ones that were produced before you bought the mold that's not doing anything but taking up space right now IIRC ;) I was actually suprised at how much you had to give for the mold originally... I thought it would have sold for a bit more.

Shannon

well the original mirkos werent flimsy either. and that was part of the problem. if you breathed on it wrong it would crack. it had ZERO forgiveness in it. (well damn near zero). people would break them all the time and then turn around and buy another one. crazy!

i remember when mattyk got his brand new from mirko. he was excited that he finally got it installed. like TWO weeks later it was DESTROYED when it caught pulling into a driveway :blackeye:

i knew about pete's dealings with ED and their corvette stuff and thought "that at least HAS to be somewhat better than pure fiberglass". plus ed will do everything. make the mold, ship them, package them, cover damages, etc... i just have to put up my $$.

...i dont really even care. im fine with it for my own car and thats all that i care about. i tried to offer up these at a discounted price for the cheap skates (like myself) who want to save a few bucks but it just backfires in my face. so ill just pass the word to have them destroyed...

Cool down buddy. I like how with in 20min you go from one post talking about letting you know if people want to buy these and you started discussing savings associated with shipping two... to two posts later ranting about how people are giving you crap and how your going to have the first set of splitters destroyed

All the one guy was asking for was some pictures of the splitter you have on, or will be putting on, your car. It's just a pic request not a court sopena

In anycase thanks for working through these issues with ED. If you need someone to test fit one of the 15 I can do it and post of pics, etc. However I still would want to follow through on my purchase for the finalized one as I have no problem waiting for perfection.

So are you still looking for someone to test fit a splitter from the first batch? As I said I'm more then willing to help, but I'm still buying the final version as I mentioned above. I already have a mirko and I know that this final product from ED will be much better.

Steve, I like many others appreciate the work, time, and effort that you have put into this. I dont see an issue with selling this batch on ebay or even any left overs from the revised batch, you have to make some $$ somewhere. People who have signed up and sent in deposits deserve a deal/price break...it makes sense to jack up the cost for everyone else, as its not fair to the people who sent in deposits and waited.

I am also willing to test fit, once posting pictures I would simply stick it in my basement and donate it to the Spring Zing raffle on behalf of Steve, True Forged, and ED.

Steve, thanks for working with our community!

gotcha bud. since its worldtour's website, let me hit him up and see what he wants to do. if he says its cool to send it to you and then you donate it to the raffle, im ok with that.

whats the price going to be like for the splitter for those not in on the group buy??

also, FYI, when you receive your splitters from ED (when you finally do) be SURE to inspect the item before you sign for it. this is important. ED will fully honor any damages and handle the insurance claims and take care of it BUT you have to realize the damage before you sign for it. if you just sign for it (or somone else) and then later open the box and its cracked or broken, youre SOL. it takes 2 minutes to open it up and fully inspect it. i just did this myself when i picked up the one you see. they asked me to do this and then sign for it. we unwrapped it and i checked it over real quick. pretty easy to tell if its fugged or not. i asked him, well what if it doesnt fit right? like REALLY off. he said thats different and they'd take care of it no problem. this is just for damage during shipping.

once the new batch is ready to go i will again restate this, in addition to the communications between each person when they make their balance payments. i dont want anyone to get screwed or be pissed about their order. ED is will to accept full responsibility for the shipments (so awesome!) as long as buyers comply with this. if the fedex guy tells you he's in a hurry you tell him "eff you. youre going to wait!" if you have it shipped to someone else (painter, shop, buddy's house) be sure to tell them to do this as well or you will be screwed if its damaged.

normally, id be really reluctant to ship a mirko due to its FG construction and the way these shipping companies treat things. but these splitters are MUCH more durable.

we'll probably do another GB for these next year but no sooner. again, i have to keep it fair to those who ponied up way back when. you can either wait till next year for the next GB, or just spend the extra $50 and grab one in 2010.

i think there also may be some confusion here as to the pricing of this initial "blem" batch.

for the FINAL version, the GB price is $300 plus shipping. ONLY the people who got in in the beginning can buy one for that price, no exceptions. everyone else will have to pay $350 plus shipping for one. or wait till the next GB in 2011 some time..

for this "blem" batch, they are $250 plus shipping. so in reality, any newcomers will be saving $100! if you grab one of these. i know for $50 difference you might as well wait for the slick final version but to save $100??? if it has the same fitment as the original mirko?? the same one that tons of people already own and love?? that's $100!! and i know CEGers arent typically ballers so $100 is quite a bit when the total cost of this (non-GB pricing) is around $450 and that's before paint.

if anyone who is already on the GB wants to jump ship and get one of these instead, for less money, you are more than welcome BUT you will need to sell your spot in the GB in order to do so. shouldnt be too hard since i have plenty of people PM'ing me asking me if they can still get in on the GB lol, 7 months late. i AM on the hook for the 15 final versions so i need to keep the original numbers the same.

Lol, WOW!!!

Ok guy's calm down. Usually I would come over here and we would only have 2 posts after like 2 weeks. Lol I actually had to spend some time reading this time :D

As mentioned, Steve even though has not posted much in the past has stayed in contact with me this whole time. We both run our own businesses along with everything else we have going on, so trust me we are usually very busy. Personally hearing news from me is better anyways because as Steve mentioned, I hear it first hand so you guy's get it the way I hear it. I dont mind posting up and keeping you guys informed.

Oh and yes I do make money off of these and I do have to pay ED for the first 15, they are not free...Lol trust me on that one, nobody works for free. Im the middle man as I have known ED for years when they were in a 3,000 sq ft warehouse (now 50K and expanding) Steve and I have worked together before and will most likely continue to do so if he wants. Lol, so be easy on him guy's. I imagine it's pretty tough to do what he does as far as his wheels, other parts and family, I know I have my hands full with my Vette guys. I'll continue to stay on top of it and post when I have updates. Thanks

Pete

On that note, keep this thread on track. If you don't like the idea of a business owner making profit off a product, take it somewhere else. As far as I'm concerned, I don't see anything wrong here.

^ Agreed. As long as you get what you asked for in this group buy is all that matters. I hope we can get production rolling on this within the next month or two. I would like to have this in my possession for next show season.

im going to start compiling a list of people who want to get in on the final version when theyre ready. post GB pricing of course, but first batch of the final version. no deposits necessary. ill just contact you when they are ready to go (or almost here) and you'll then either say yes or no, and then ill move on to the next person on the list. if you want in on that list, PM me and ill add you. be sure to provide your phone number so i can call you. email too. if i cant reach you quickly, ill move on to the next person.
