So, after a couple of months of parts gathering and pretty much a full teardown, I finished bolting together my 3L tonight. All that's left really is stuff to be swapped over from the 2.5 in the car. Some more pics of the teardown and reassembly (somewhat incomplete, missed some big chunks of work) can be seen here: http://www.contour.org/ceg-vb/showthread.php?t=32521 But here she is all painted up and assembled.

To answer some questions in advance, the oil filter is the one that was on the engine when it was shipped and yes it is smashed all up. A new one goes on when the engine is swapped. The engine itself is an 04 from a Taurus I got from blackcoog with a bent rod. rod was obviously replaced, crank checked and cleaned, new bearings all new gaskets etc.
The red valve covers are flat red header paint sprayed over spray on truck bed liner. It's a bit of an experiment but I think it will hold up to the heat and everything. Now to get my synchros changed out and get the torsen set up and the trans back together. Hopefully she'll be in the shop for surgery next week!

Looks pretty good. That red is going to be hard to clean if you get stuff on it.... Now put it in the car and don't post until you do!

It is going to be hard to check for leaks when you cant see the oil on the motor being black and all :blackeye:. The more I look at it, the more I like it :)

not digging the red valve covers at all, reminds me of the Carnival. but the rest of the motor looks super nice.

Motor is looking good. Not a fan of red and black but there is nothing wrong with something other than blue :)

When do you plan on finally installing it?

Don't hate something just because you were bred from Carnies.

I was a carnie, back in '00. Free nachos and I let all the drunks ride for free if they would stay on until they threw up. priceless

Heat?

Heat?

Does painting an alloy engine cause it to retain more heat than it ordinarily would unpainted? I can recall when painting an alloy automatic tranny was considered a no-no for that reason. Maybe it still is but does this carry over to engines as well?

Heat retention due to paint on an engine or on a trans case is insignificant.
