anyone ever install an aftermarket SVT grille?

yeah the colors....the black is black and the chrome is chrome. Not much to match up there. I really don't think it's worth it to shell out the cash for an OEM SVT grille after seeing how easy it is to finesse even a cheap aftermarket one, but if that's what you want to do, go for it. They're both made of plastic and gonna break the same. Sprebound, I like your fix of melting the fingers better, funny I hadn't thought of that. Or maybe I did and decided it was too hard to get in there.

I think I am just going to pony up for the factory grille, expensive but I would rather not mess around considering I just sunk a grand into the thing for the other work

oh well.

If you don't mind doing a little bit of work then save yourself some money man... As stylee said, you can glue the rubber strip on or you can go the lil more difficult and time consuming route and melt the tabs down. Either way, its much more cost-efficient, unless you have deep pockets of course. Either way, good luck with your decision.

I ordered the factory from Team ford yesterday, it was about $175, still alot of money but could be worse...

Yeah my plastic tabs broke off as well and my grill actually fell off when i was driving...
So i guess i'll have to order the ebay special.

BTW how did you guys get the correct ford emblem for the front of the grill, since it doesn't come with one???

Use the one that came with the car...haha... If you don't have one of those, just go to a junkyard and pull one from a contour. There is only one nut that holds it on.

 must be nice....

...wow

Anywho, vobra if you can't find a badge in a junkyard just look around on ebay for one that's the correct length, break off the plastic tabs on the back and epoxy it on. It'll NEVER come off.

I was looking around on ebay for the ford oval emblems.
What is the correct length that will fit on the grill?????

Yikes.. you should have just bought the cheapest thing possible, especially if your going to change the grill.. As long as you made sure both of the screw tabs and bottom two latch tabs are in place, it shouldn't matter...

It might even have been more of a persuasion to color match the grill ring (which there is a how to along with replacing mesh on the site somewhere)

Best of luck!

It is two metal nuts that chew into the plastic posts as they screw on so be careful.

Yeah, what can I say, figured I have had the car since new and never done anything nice for it, just sank over a grand in repairs, plus had over three grand in body work done by insurance so what is another $180 or so for a grille at this point...it was either get it fixed or buy something new and this is still cheaper than a new car. And there are no plans to do Mesh or anything, I like the factory look, especially after spending that much :)....what is shocking is the real cost of that part is near $300...ouch.
