3L swap

Not many people have done the 3.0L with oval port heads port matched to the 2.5L intakes. If you want your heads ported youll probably be looking at $1000 minimum to have that done. Of course, once you have that done, you can just slap your 2.5L intakes on. Power numbers seem to be good as well.

I think this is one of the more common swaps nowadays. It is easy and cheap. Portmatching the heads to the LIM is only a matter of a few hours, or I know a number of places that will do it for $200 or less. Now that is talking about port matching... I wasn't sure if you were saying $1000 min for portmatching or full PNP heads!?!?! Port matching the heads is fairly easy and cheap, especially when you use the bugzuki plates which eliminates the need for JB weld and all which saves even more time.

are there any other required components i need?

so far i got a -

2001 and up escape or taurus motor
*port-match the intake ports to the intake manifold from the 2.5
get the car re-tuned after swap

ok so im going with the escape motor. any other little things that anyone have come across when they have done a swap?

very nice, thanks for all the input and help with everything...

ill let you all know how it goes

well i got a motor, but when i told the guy what had to be done to drop it in he sad it wont fit. i got the motor from a 2001 Mazda tribute(ford escape). he said the wholes in the block where completely different and he couldn't do it.

is there a specific build date or something needed? im going to talk to the guy and see what he is talking about.

Did he actually look at it or is he making a brash assumption? When I was ordering my engine from LKQ the guy was insistent that it wouldn't fit, and it took quite a while to convince him otherwise.

he said that the intake manifold had completely different bolt layout and wont work and same with the alt. bracket and everything

im going to go over there tomorrow and talk to him about this

i know, i just went through the post that you made with your full oval-port swap PurpleMystique, and made a list of everything that i need to have done and items that have to be modified.

thanks for the help man, i know that you just have went through this too, i really miss driving the contour, she has been dead since february...

the guy has no clue wot he's talking about. ppl go with full 3l all the time. the mazda's the same as the escape. there are only two ways the alternator bolts down to the motor. saddle n side mount. my 03 was saddlemount which is the same as the tour. unless ford decided to just mix stuff up for the heck of it.

ya, i know, well since my parents are doing this for my graduation gift thingy, and my dad is being a complete butthole, so i have given up and him and his friend(who is doing the swap) are returning the motor and dropping a 2.5 back in it.... and this motor has a crazy amount of miles on it, like 85,000 to 90,000 where as the car only has 70,000 to 75,000.

so this thanksgiving break when im out of school im going to pull a 3.0 my self and build it and have someone who knows what their talking about to drop it in

EDIT: the block has a saddle mount like the 2.5 except it had 2 cut-outs for the two extra tabs on the block
