Ok, so my 96' SE 3.0L project has been put on hold. Seems I don't really have or can't justify the cash going into this car right now. (Engine is up for sale in the classifieds).
I have a few engines lying around and the gears in my head started turning today. (stock 2.5L, bad rod knock, 98 SVT high mileage 2.5, and lastly a 2006 Escape that I used the oil pan off of).
I think the Escape engine has a bad head gasket. 29K miles with sludge for oil. (Guy pulled it, he thought stuck lifter, blowing smoke bad, no power at all.)
If I put the good 04' Taurus 3.0L engine in the car I would need a tune and fuel rail conversion, among a few other things. Thats adding up for a non-SVT car.
Getting to the point- if I put the SVT heads and cams on the Escape engine with the stock 17# injectors would it run ok? How about if I just used the stock 2.5L heads/cams with the 17# injectors?
I could use either the stock intake or a SVT intake setup.
One other possibility would be port matching the 3.0 heads to a 2.5 intake and use the 17# injectors. Heck, I've got the 3 pk of buzinski plates.
Just trying to avoid the cost of a tune and the 3.0. Cash has gotten tight. I've got a lot in the 3.0 I have. Hoping to sell.
I could do any one of these combinations for real cheap and get this SE on the road. I was just building the car for the fun of driving it in the summer. Not really trying to win a race, not that that would be bad.
One possibility was getting a new crank from Rockauto. $170 with all the bearings. That might get me back on the road.
Anyone got some good input reguarding the use of the 17# injectors with the afore mentioned combos?
