New CEG'er
First, had my '99 CSVT for years now, since nearly new. Love it. Won't sell it. Look forward to every drive. I'll drive it until the wheels fall off, the impeller causes massive overheating, or I hit something harder than the bloody curb block that keep breaking my lower facia.
Here's my problem though.
I'm in my 40's. A professional. Live in the burbs. People ask me what I drive. You know, small talk. When they do, I admit to pausing a bit before telling them, a Contour.
C'mon, you know why. The librarian drives a Contour. The little old lady who lives next to my mom (another little old lady) drives a Contour.
No one knows about our SVT thing, except the 1 in a thousand gear head. To them, it's a collector’s item, to everyone else, it's the librarian’s car.
I've tried not saying Contour. Sometimes I say, "a Ford". Leaving it up to them to imagine either a Saleen Mustang, a truck, or an Edsel.
Sometimes I say, "I drive an SVT." Most people just nod politely, then I run away.
I once tried, "well, I drive a unique car, one of only thousands built. Based on a European Mondeo, it's fitted with a sport suspension, an high output honed-port V-6 with Yamaha roots, and..." At that point my wife interjected, "he drives a Contour." Thanks hon.
So, here’s the question. Am I alone? What do you call your CSVT when asked? Please don't reply if you're 16 years old, and think saying anything other than "I drive a skateboard" is cool.
