Wheel/Tire size FAQ Read Here First

well what are you going to be using the stock wheels for? since it sounds like you have (or are getting) 18s i have to assume you will be using the 16s for winter duty. if thats the case then you dont want a wider tire, if anything you want a narrower tire (and you certainly dont want a summer tire but could maybe get away with an all season tire).

well i already have 18's i just want some good quality tires for my e1's, winter or summer. i want them for inspection, i'm not going to use my 18's because one wheel doesn't hold air due to a bend in it. my 16's are not necessarily for winter duty as i don't take it out much in the winter but something that will last me. i am thinking the fuzion zri may be my best bet right now.

well lets put it this way, if they will see any winter time at all (under about 40 degrees F) then you dont want summer only tires as most are not designed to be run at temps under that. they become very hard and have little to no traction in the dry, much less in the wet (and dont even think about summer tires in the snow).

well i just looked and it is not posted on my door tag.....my car has 185 70 14s on it but there are 2 other tours at school with 14s....and their tires are wider and lower profile.

well i got a dilemma guys, i am putting my 17" konigs from my focus onto my SVTC and need new tires, i am rally thinking about 235/40's opposed to 215/45's for the extra width. i am not lowered and dont really plan to be will i experience any rubbing issues or anything, the wheels are 17x7 (.5?) and -42 i think ill have to look tomorrow.

thanks for any help guys

Your wheels are most likely +42. If they were -42, you'd have some massive deep dish wheels. I think you'd probably be ok as long as you wont be lowering. Probably look into fender rolling just to be sure, but i'll let more of the experts chime in on this.

why not go with the suggested 225/45R17 which would still be close to the stock size? there is a chance the 235's will rub at least on the fender liner.

well a 225/45/17 is abotu a half inch taller than stock and the 235/40 is like dead on for height

you sure about that? from 1010tires.com size calculator

205/55R16

diameter difference
215/45R17 - 1.05%
225/45R17 - 0.41%
235/40R17 - 1.89%

215/45 or 225/45 is the typical size used.

BrApple, it depends on whether your stock tires where the older 205/55/16s or the newer 215/50/16s. if its the later then you get the following

215/50/16 stock size
diameter difference
205/55/16 - 1.65%
215/45R17 - 0.61%
225/45R17 - 2.05%
235/40R17 - 0.25%

he has a 99, isn't only the 2ks that got the other size? if so was anything actually done in the pcm for the difference? I do have a set of 205/55R16, 215/50R16 and 225/45R17 I could see if they are different somehow in the speedo. but then again its three different tires manufactures also.
