Winterizing the Tour

I think that you covered all of the basics- a GOOD set of snow tires, SOME kind of material for traction if needed, good lights, jumper kit, tools, some sort of survival kit if you DO get stuck in the snow in the middle of nowhere. I know some people that went to NMU, and if Tech is anything like it, you probably won't be going anywhere anyways.

kenny any word on this sunday with mike? also, what do you have going on thursday/friday maybe we could check out a few junkyards to find some wheels?

I got a set of Blizzak REVO 1 snow tires last winter on closeout from tirerack. I was going from using summer only tires in the winter :help:to the Blizzaks. I don't know if there might be better options out there, but I was very happy with them. Granted they still spun when provoked, but I never got stuck, and was always able to stop.

I should also mention that with these tires, I found out the CSVT's don't like to go through snow higher than the fogs.

thats why you need a mirko on there so you can plow right though it, duh... j/k lol

kenny I just found a set of E1's with tires for 150 bucks, I called you but you no answer duesh!

:drool::drool: Me likey the fogs. That's what I did with my tires too. Especially if you're going to keep the car for a while, it pays to just buy an extra set rather than paying $60-100 to have different tires mounted every season. I need to sell my 16" summer tires when I get back to MI and try to recoup a little money on the deal.

Well TX My stepdad owns a garage so swapping out rubber isn't very hard. Thats the place Ron gets his work done at too. If I find a good deal on rims I'll get some good wide summer only's.

Well new lights are on their way.

Son of a :censored::censored::censored::censored::censored:! Why didn't I know this!? Do you know how many tires I've had mounted in the last 6 months? :blackeye:

EDIT: If you buy those E1's, I'll give you a deal on my fat 225's. Damn those things looked good on my car. I'm tempted to say screw the FSVT's, buy the E1's myself, and put my 225's back on.

lol there ya go kenny buy robs foci wheels off him and you'll be good to go! btw Tex kenny is comming over thursday for the detail day, hopefully he will have the new fogs by then so we can see them in person, I may end up following suit and picking some up myself?

Ok, so we are doing it Thursday? I won't be able to do #801, because I didn't re-insure it and it's at my mom's house. I'll be happy to help you guys and go for some rides though! Just let me know when and if you need directions.

to keep kenny's post on topic lets leave it through pms and phone calls, I pmed you my number so give me a call whenever.

What time Thursday?

Tires tires tires. Period. I live in chassell, like 10 minutes south of tech. I was running all season tires till I got my Blizzaks for christmas. Night and day, no question. I was getting around really well in the csvt. My biggest problem was i kept my rear tires on so i was a little rear end happy if I wasn't careful. But that made for some fuuuun mall parking lot e brakeing.

I wouldnt' worry about getting stuck middle of no where unless your going somewhere you don't need to ha. From Tech to houghton is all in town basically so its plowed regurlarly. Just pick and choose your travel, lot of steep hills you don't want to mess with unless you have to.

Otherwise your fine. Kitty litter aent a bad idea if you get plowed in your driveway or parking spot. Jumper cables I have and they have been handy (left lights on). Fog lights did pretty good heavy snow. Not to mention it's dark by like 5 middle of winter.

The 'tour does good in the snow if you ask me. The worst of it is the rear end sliding which aen't hard to control.

Rear end sliding is especially bad with drums instead of discs and no abs, they are lock happy. I'm on BF Goodrich Traction T/A tires currently and with the right amount of braking the rear was full lock and the front not. No ebrake needed for drifting.

I need to get a set of good jumper cables, as just a jumper box isn't to be counted on. Maybe some good tow straps too if I go in a ditch.

Tow strap's aren't a bad idea. Though put your car in the hands of whoever is passing by. I do carry one in the Jeep and have had to use it twice. Once car full kids just plowed into a bank in between parking lots. Another time I pulled a small FedEx van out of our driveway

I don't carry tow straps because I'm not letting anyone pull on my car ha

I did fine in the sable with rear drums and no abs. Rear end would lock but the car was heavy and long enough to be no real threat. The 'tour likes to step out fast being so small. Abs definitely helped through last winter, and being able to shift down. Also keeping it in lower gear going down hill.

No real fret though. We don't get hard storms to often. People think we're insane driving around in 250+ inches of snow a year but we don't get it all at once! Sometimes though, when we do get a storm, we realllllly get it. Over foot overnight without batting an eye. I snowmobile and just bought a new one end of last season and extended the track so I love it. Hop on the sled and go ditching bombing with my day off from work.

I'm going to be honest here, I think those might be what my 3L has on it. They look a lot like it. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

???

I don't get it. Did you put only two snow tires on your car? Please don't tell me there's a garage stupid enough to to sell you just two snow tires and to mount them on the front of a car.
