I have less than 20K on my 3L, and it's starting to make the same sounds as the 2.5 did right before it crapped the bed. I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

mine in my car right now had clevite bearing failure, but when i saw less than 10 psi at idle i pulled them out and put new ones in before it damaged anything. didnt prime the oil pump the right way. then reebs showed me how to and it pumped right up. almost 100 psi on start-up, and 30 warm and at idle.

I have only heard of two instances where are "self priming oil pumps" don't self-prime!!! This happened on my 3L as well and with about 30 minutes of cranking I couldn't build oil pressure at all on my guage and so I was trying to figure out what the heck was going on. I should have at least seen some pressure at the guage. I pulled my oil filter which is basically the first port of call for oil and I didn't have a drop of oil in it. After all that cranking it should have been dripping oil when I took it off. I thought my oil pickup was clogged or something but it would have been a PITA to drop the oil pan with the turbo kit on because I would have needed to pull the dang kit first so I made a little contraption with copper pipe/bevelled rubber hose and stuff to poke it through my oil cooler. Then I poured oil down the pipe and used a compressor to blow and force the oil back to the oil pump to prime it. I repeated a few times to make sure I had alot of oil down there. Then after putting on the filter I cranked the car for about 2 seconds and had lots of pressure at my guage. Oil filter was then overfilling, so I started her up and all was well.

I am writing this to help anyone whoever has trouble with oil pressure before startup on a new build. For the most part, are self priming oil pumps are great. Occasionly you will get one on a new build that just doesn't want to prime itself and needs a little boost.

Grant luckily caught his early enough and just needed to replace the clevites.
