why are people so jealous of our SVT's?!!

I am in no way thinking that my SVT is a rarity but i do love how some people call it an escort, when it is not, well people see it as what they believe it is.

Makes me wonder if we had Mondeos here in the USA, would they call them contours every time they see one?

most people are looking at my car like WTF. others are like damn that front end must scrape a lot, and others are like wtf is an SVT?

then the usual ford guy gives me the thumbs up lol

I get the same treatment - some people deny that there was ever a Contour SVT and make like I put Focus badging and stickers on my car.. Pulling out my SVT plaque out of the back seat shuts them up good.

they see me rollin', the hatin', tryin to catch me ridin dirty..................TRYTOCATCHMERIDINDIRTY,TRYTOCATCHMERIDINDIRTY

LOL

As a 10 year SVTC owner, I don't see people's curiosity about the car having anything to do with jealousy.

The SVTC is visually different, when I first got it, some asked if it was a BMW 3 series. It's a nice looking car, at least mine is. I've taken good care of it; people apparently appreciate its appearance; and many outright strangers have said so to me.

No one I've encountered has thought it was an Escort, or a Taurus with a body kit. Most are surprised to hear that I bought the car exactly the way it appears from Ford Motor Company, and that it's a nice little 3000 pound sedan with 200 HP and some suspension and brake bits from Ford's European parts bins. Nobody has ever dissed the car, in fact, they seem to genuinely appreciate that it's a rarity, and that it's a fun to drive car.

For every nice condition SVTC I see, I see one that is a used-up rolling wreck, or one sporting a shopping-cart ricer rear wing, or one that's lowered to the point of dragging the pavement. Perhaps I'm being judgmental, but none of the latter is my cup of tea.

I really wish little kids would stop buying SVTs.
Well, that isn't going to stop happening. I also own an '89 Taurus SHO, and those have also fallen victim to the same phenomenon due to rapidly declining value, so I don't see the ownership demographics changing anytime soon. As the old saying goes: If rape is inevitable, best to lay back and enjoy it...

while I don't own an CSVT I did catch my self comparing my car to the very vanilla 96 white w/ tan interior 4cyl auto model that was in the shop today thinking man is that a lame car:rolleyes: To each their own:cool:

The only stranger to ever compliment my SVT was an older guy driving a Festiva, in the local grocery parking lot. It was great to see someone who recognized the thing. Around here it's a rare occurrence at best.

I once popped my hood at a local club meet and I seriously was asked if it had a Yamaha (SHO, obviously) engine in it. I chuckled and said 'No it has a Cosworth in it' and to my surprise he didn't question anything.

My point is people are more confused when a 20-something yr old steps out of his Taurus Escort looking thing that has aftermarket rims and tint on it. At least, in their words anyway.

BINGO! haha - I think they are wondering why a BMW has a ford badge on it .....

I went to a car show in Fond du lac on fathers day, and some rice racer had There Acura badged as a BMW:nonono:

Around here, large trucks and American made muscle rules. My little tour gets no respect and I am usually having to dodge all the rednecks thinking their truck can drive over my car. I got one compliment once and that was from a guy at a car wash driving a Honda Civic with a big azz fart pipe. :blackeye:

I miss my Mustang.

i think you hit the nail on the head there. my car was valued at $1500 dollars by the state of massachusetts for tax purposes, less than my old 227,xxx mi 97 taurus. redfire550 still managed to squeeze about 5k out of me thou :)

man when i got my car registered they valued it at 4k something :( had to pay taxes on it :(

that sucks. I just had to pay tax on the sale price listed on the paperwork.

Many states are changing their policies to where you pay taxes on the actual value of the car and not what you claim you paid for it. Texas just made this change some time ago. Used to be I could go in and say I only paid $100 for a vehicle and that's what I paid taxes on. Those days are long gone. When I bought my Tour almost 2 years ago, I think my taxes were around $350.
