I have one in my truck, a Uniden Pro538W that I use all the time, mostly for the NOAA weather channels up here. When I lived down south, it was a great help along the highways if nothing other than to listen to truckers as a sort of mobile talk-show. Kept you alert as the music would drone on and you'd lose attention as you were driving highways for long periods of time.

I also have been collecting decent CBs at yard sales since they are handy to have in a boat for boat-boat talking off the marine bands. Good ones can be had for $1-$5 these days.

Anybody have one installed and operational in their Contours?

Not for a while. My parents used to have an '81 Lincoln Conti that had a factory CB in it. Was kinda interesting, but it's been a while since they got rid of it.

Used to have the latest editions back when my brother worked at Radioshack. But those things sucked compared to some nice ones. I would love to get another. My dad installed his when he drove the SVT for awhile. Now its on the Tahoe and the cb always saves him from the "smokies"

groovenerd has one, along with alot of other cool stuff, has three antennas off that back of the car for it all ...

Is he the one that saved everyone at one of the SZ? Its a black SVT right?

If you click on "search" at the top right of the page, then type in "Groovenerd" you will get a list of a all the posts with his name in them.
Then, you simply click on his name and it takes you to his profile.

You can see he has a 99 black SVT.. so, yes.. its the black one you were thinking of.

You might expect that I'd have some experience with this. :D

I had a Cobra 18WX ST flush-mounted in the lower DIN slot of my first 1994 Taurus SHO, right below the radio. It was black, with a front mount speaker, and looked like it was meant to go there.

I had a chrome Cobra mounted face up on the far side of the console of my 1987 Taurus MT-5 Wagon, so that it was perpendicular to me. That was a great location, and accidentally created a great cupholder between the CB itself, the console, and the left front corner of the passenger's seat. That car was tan metallic with black racing stripes, sported a bra, foglights, and white letter tires, and wore the CB antenna on the back of its roof. It was a hard car to miss.

I've been trying to decide if I should mount one of my smaller Uniden 510/520XLs in my Contour. There's very little CB traffic in my area, but they are handy to have when you need one.

I used to have a 510, good radio.

I actually still have a Maxxon 40 CH w\weather that's been peaked and tuned so I have the standard 40, 40 above and 40 below (so really 120 CH all together) in my garage in the cabinet, been debating about installing it, but the antenna I have put little scratches in the trunk lid of the 95 'tour, and I haven't been anywhere to purchase a new antenna. I've tried recovering the base, but that didn't help with the scratching:nonono:

I used to have one when I had my Saturn... that was 3 cars ago. Used it all the time.
Never got around to putting into my Explorer.
Not sure where I would put it in the 'Tour.

Hmm, I haven't checked the A/V section for a while -- I guess I should stop in here more often!

As to the original poster's question, I just use mine on trips to keep an ear on traffic conditions -- and the locations of any vehicles I might want to be sure to go past at the speed limit... :)

i have an old CB radio i got for free and i hooked it up to a Pa speaker i bought and put it in my grill on my 91 ranger, so i could yell at people sleeping at the light,it is so much fun yelling at people and they have no clue were it is coming from...

now i need to buy a better one for the contour and find a place to hide my pa speaker!!!

That sorta reminds me of my dads truck only he has a few more.I think he has a UHF,VHF,CB,HAM,Cell Phone and controller box for lights and siren(Vol. Fireman).Makes for cramped ride, but never have to worry about police.

I want to get one and put it in the svt. I have not seen many good deals on one. so i have been putting it off

Are you like police or fire or sumething geez man thats a lot

Still have my 23 channel Pace 123A, although its been in the closet since its last install in my '76 Granada. It seems radar detectors pretty much killed off CB radios, along with the cyclic sun spot problems every 7 years or so that render them practically useless. Since then, I've taken to keeping a hand-held CB radio in the glove compartment, should I get stranded in the prairie outback on my 100 mile commutes to/from work. I used to keep a cell phone stored in the console for emergencies, but they kept cancelling my subscription since I'd continually fail to use it every 60 days like they required to keep the service active.

My old CB handle has been resurrected as my internet screen name, though!
