ok, so which MAF is smoother and larger inside?
The MAFS housings are dimensionally identical. The only difference I'm aware of, is their material composition - the Taurus/Sable is plastic while the Tour's is metal. The sensor itself is what's different. If you would rather have a metal housing, just unscrew the Taurus MAF from the plastic housing & swap it into the metal one.

will one from a 98 work?
Use the MAFS that was matched to the injectors you're using, until you get a tune. If your injectors are from a 98, then your best bet is a 98 MAFS.

FYI...in 2000 ford offered the plastic mafs...i know contour se's came with them i don't recall if the svt's did.

IMHO i would stick with the plastic one.

awesome then, I'll go dig around the JY for one then

is a plastic taurus MAF going to be the same regardless of engine? like, does the vulcan also use 24lb injectors?

just gettin all the info before I go buy something I can't use. limited options at pull-a-part

Good to know - thanks.

I'm not absolutely positive, but I don't think the D-tec & Vulcan share anything. I know for a fact that the MAFS and housings are completely different - with the Vulcan's housing being much smaller.

Having owned both engines, and modding/worked on both....there is nothing similar about the two. Nothing, even the maf on the vulcan is a 65mm.

I can't see how the same size but plastic vs. metal is nothing more than a waste of time. If you'd bored you can port/polish the factory metal housing.

Wow, I agree with you.

uh, the initial concept here was that the signal from the 3l maf was matched to the injectors. Today 09:03 PM

Do you realize that in the end you're just making everything more difficult on yourself? You could have either saved your money and gotten all the parts you wanted first or you could have done the bare minimum. You're trying to do it all with no cash flow. Pay the price and do it right, I'd have had 3 or 4 swaps done and putting down good power in the time period you've been posting all this gibberish about hack tuning your IAC, swapping the maf for no reason, etc.

You're like a broke version of SVT Prodigy, he threw money at parts w/out any care if they'd work together or ever get done!

Not trying to be a dick, but I think you need to take a quick step back and figure out where the :censored::censored::censored::censored: you're going and the best way to get there.

While yes, you can "tune" using a maf that's "calibrated" for different injectors on some vehicles *cough NOT US cough*, it's a hack way of tuning, if you can even call it that. All a MAF does is tell the PCM how much airflow is coming into the engine. It does not tell the PCM, hey, this guy is running 24lb. injectors, compensate for it. No, it just doesn't work that way.

If you really want to run another MAF to set it up properly you'd need the MAF curve for it. If its an aftermarket, you should be able to get it from the manufacturer. If you want to run another OEM Ford MAF, you can get the PCM code from the vehicle it was pulled from and have your tuner copy that MAF curve into yours when tuning to get a decent base.

I forget who it was but someone had a real nice write-up on this a little while ago. It may have been Rara but I can't remember for sure.

thanks for the pointer about getting the pcm code for the maf.

I plan to have joey at NPG tune ths for me eventually, but for right now I'm just trying to get it to be a little more driveable in the meantime. besides, it's fun to tinker around with some new ideas.

the resistor in the iat idea is literally just because I have a friggin freezer bag of resistors already laying around.

and yes pud, I am definately a broke mofo, and am well aware anybody with cash flow could have built ten 3l in the time I've had this thing under the knife.

since this has kind of turned into "the discuss kaos' stupid ideas show", anybody wanna take a look @ this for me?

Not the same post I was referring to but very good write-up and a bit more indepth than the one I was referring to. Which, I still can't seem to find...

so basically, I need to know exactly what computer the maf comes from so joey can tune for it? I guess I need to pm him with some questions

thanks for the link, that was pretty helpfull
