The "official" 2011 Fall Dragon Run thread...Oct 6th-9th

I really wish I wasn't thrown off of my game because I would've come in here an set up a thread in pics and video, like I always do, to show the rest of the site how we did this year but I was. Should we do this anyways, people have PM'd me. I'm sorry I didn't take as many pics as I usually do, my fault but then again, we've got alot of other people taking pics too.

On a little side note, I've got PM's about a variety of issues and honestly, there should be NO issues with our run. I thought last year our biggest issue was the size of the group and it wasn't even an isssue, then this year, didn't see any of that coming at all. I can only hope that A. the guy in the blue Fit doesn't show up and B. the constant raggin' goes away, a little is ok but too much was too much IMO.

Think about it like this, we've got a pretty good thing going here and wouldn't it be cool if we had a "20th anniversary" run? If you think so, let's do what we can to make that a reality, ok. I have to accept the contrasting personalities for sure and I do or atleast I try too. I'm just not into the alpha male personality, can't stand it one bit. Ego's, driving creds, etc should be left at home and we should just concentrate on driving and enjoying the roads and having fun afterwards, no need to rip others to make yourself feel good or get others to laugh along with you, put yourself in the other persons shoes, a person who's just showed up to our run for the first time....think about that, someone joined our run based off someone setting this up and how they "seem" online in a forum, pretty impressive for someone to show up based off of how someone carries themselves IMO. Then that person, me, tells these people everyone is cool and then the organizer, gets ripped on by a number of people relentlessly, is that the best way to represent our run?

The above is just a response to a number of PM's I've gotten via the 3 forums I'm on that are tied to this run, that's all. Things really need to change guys and because of the expected turnout next year, part of the problem will be solved via 2 groups staying at different locations, so who knows, this could be all for nothing anyways but nonetheless, needs to be dealt with to ensure years of fun, we've got a good thing going here guys, let's not ruin it!

Whenever you get a bunch of car guys together there will always be hazing, BS, etc. You either take it, or you don't and be involved. Simple as that. In the end, it never (or should) even matter since preference with cars, mods, etc are all objective things. Remember, I am the same guy who got nothing but crap about my modded Zetec Contour, and to me, it never mattered. I did what I wanted and EFF what people thought.

With that being said, this meet doesn't need to turn into a freaking soap opera. This isn't a popularity contest and nobody is putting anybody else down. If you think that, you are reading way to much into it. Everyone is going down or up for one thing; to drive some badass roads. It doesn't matter what car you drive, where you come from, or what life you lead, just car guys doing what car guys do. REMEMBER THAT! Save the drama for the women.

^This.
I got plenty of crap about my 'heavy ass' Jeep, but who cares? I had a blast! I usually even join in. I especially thought the 'unique, not better' and 'thirsty little leprechauns' jokes that were directed at me this year were hilarious!

I didn't get any gay jokes at me towards the miata, but i did about "sausage cabin".

That was extremely offensive.

I mean, who doesn't make a gay joke about a miata? I expected less of this group, and i got more.

lol

"Dramaville" city limits!

"Dramaville" city limits!

I'll give it up to Jim with the blue Fit, he can read between the lines with the best of em:rolleyes:

Dude, since you're insinuating that you had issues with me and my driving style, rest easy, you don't have to worry about my attendance. I'd rather make my own Dragon runs. You get your feelings hurt pretty quickly based on all the innuendo you've been tossing around since the "meet" a few weeks ago. You take yourself WAY TOO SERIOUSLY. I mean, do you really need leather driving gloves and Piloti racing to push a CR-Z around some mountain roads? Talk about trying to "impress" people, Mr. Nerd Alert. Get over yourself.

My response.......

See, this is why you keep your mouth closed when you come to something like this, you don't know anyone and why they do things, let me set you straight on a couple things here Jimbo:

1. the gloves, given to me by my late Dad as a gift, so that covers that, the serious stuff about those gloves. Now for the NOT so serious stuff about those gloves. About 4 years ago we were at the Fontana Dam and I went in to use the restroom and forgot to take them off and got some friendly raggin' about doing that, its even in my screen name on the Contour site still.

2. the Piloti's....well, they're VERY comfortable for sure, is that ok. Those were given to me by my ex-boss, so I took them and wear them every so often.

The LAST person whom takes themselves seriously is me and BTW Jimbo, when you were talking to the other Jim there, he too noticed how you were when he tried to bring up the SCCA with you, its not just me you rubbed the wrong way. Again, who in their right mind would come to a meet, not knowing anyone and then talk sheet about the person who organizes it for everyone. I'm not asking for a pat on the back at all for doing this, but I monitor 3 sites for this run, 4 coming next year with those CR-Z's you seem to hate so much, why I don't know. Speaking of that, I never said anything bad about the Fit on my way into the CR-Z, infact, I felt kinda bad about getting rid of it to be honest with you but as far as showing up my car out there, well, you go ahead and do that if that makes you feel better about yourself, our run isn't supposed to be about that anyways and if your trying to go out there and impress someone, we don't want your kinda out there anyways, that's how accidents happen and I for one don't wanna be connected in any way, shape or form to that....DO YOU?

Its too bad that we've now had 2 FF members show up and cause a problem but it also looks like, just the guy from last year, our 2nd FF member who caused a problem isn't going to show back up with our group again but its too bad though, your obviously know how to drive and your car looks great, remember, I had nothing but GOOD things to say about yours and then you TRASH mine for some reason, noone could understand where you were coming from with all the negativity about my ride, do you have stock in Honda Fits or something, geez You will be replaced by about 4-5 other FF members looking to go next year, to bad you had to say what you had to say but atleast you got it off of your chest and you probably feel better about it

See, the good thing to come out of all this is A. he said he isn't coming back with our group and B. all of you who wondered about the gloves, well, now you know about them. I take it that alot of you didn't know so now you do.

I do appreciate Randy and Billy bringing this to my attention though.

We will but it just kinda sucks when some talks sheet about you, you guys wouldn't let that fly, would you? Atleast it wasn't brought up down there and really caused a problem, right!

Don't worry, we'll go for a drive next year, more emphasis on the DRIVE though, more driving on different roads, kinda like what I thought we might do this year, atleast Dillon did it though, good for him.

I had to set the guy straight about some stuff, that's all.

I have loved meeting new people. Because racecar and the adventures of the open hood 240 made this trip epic. I propose that we continue inviting new people and just let them know about the group ahead of time. If they act like blue fit guy, alero guy, or brake in the middle of the road red fit guy we can just shun them and go about having fun.

lmao thats epic

We've had our share of problems out there, started with Kremit back in 2006, then stopping in the middle of road red Fit guy in 2010, Alero guy the same year (twice in one run) and this year with blue Fit guy but if you think about it, considering the amount of times we've done this, our ratio is pretty good IMO. Next year has some interesting challenges for sure, like the size of the group, its going to be large once again I believe and secondly, the 2 locations idea. I'm torn to be honest with you but then again, atleast for next year, I may be staying elsewhere anyways, so I'll need to meet up with a group anyways and that group would be those staying at CCV. I can see us meeting up the group staying closer to the Dragon everyday for sure, no problem there and its not like everyone hung out around the campfire this year (hmmmm) and its not like we didn't all get together for dinner together either, kinda missed that tradition going away to be honest with everyone but I do enjoy our time together at Pancho's though, that food and times are great, just sittin' around eating good food and having a good time, I like that and then we go on the night run afterwards. I will say though, for the night runs, being closer to the Dragon would be great because that trip back to the cabins after being out there all day and most of the night is really, really long. Either way, the run will happen for the 10th time next year and I just hope to have a good run once again and go home with a better feeling than I've had the past 2 years.

Do we really need to stay in 2 locations? I'd rather not split up the group. I really enjoy the drive back every night on the skyway. Driving into the sunset over the mountains is beautiful. I also enjoy the campfires, but I don't like how far away we are from 28 and the dragon. I also agree that CCV has gone downhill, and the gravel entrance has been a little sketchy for some of our lower cars. Although once you're in, there's plenty of parking for everybody. I would like to go on a night run, but it always ends up taking so long. This year the night run guys got back at 1am. That's just later than I want to still be out on the road after driving hard all day. If we can stay close by, then I'd love to do a night run. I also agree with Dillon that dusk and dawn would be a great time to hit the dragon without a lot of traffic if we stay close by. I really could be swayed either way though. I just don't like the idea of splitting up the group. Maybe everybody can chime in on what they think?

The thing we need to find is a place that's close in price and has the parking for all of us, remember, with sharing the cabins, some cabins have 3-4 cars at each one. This is a luxury we've got at CCV and might not have somewhere else. I do agree about the driveway entrance, although I'm not lowered I don't want anyone to mess up their rides one bit. I guess what we'll have to do is get a good tally of how many "for reals" we've got next year and then try and see what's available out there near The Dragon and route 28, but let's not forget about the Skyway though, I for one really like the drive on there, even if I don't have the car for it....right now, I bought the winning lotto ticket for Powerball, so the 2012 ZR-1 will handle both with ease, LOL!

I too would like to hear what everyone else says too, but it seems we're in agreement about a couple of the issue though. I do agree about the cabins going downhill but think about it, we do the 3 S's there, we don't need a 5 star hotel. The entrance is a concern though and not to mention it would be nice to not have to drive and kick up all the dust and stuff too. Even though its only 3 weeks after the fact, the planning we're doing now will pay off when we go to set up the official thread 6 monthes out.

Just for S&G's

Just for S&G's

honda-cr-z-gets-k20-engine-28223_1.jpg

or this instead........
2011-custom-honda-cr-z-wraptivo-type-f-concept-7.jpg

The first ofcoarse is that K20 installed into the CR-Z, all yours for about $15k and you get a bump of roughly 75 hp and get this, about a 15 ft/lbs more torque.... This is in stock trim ofcoarse, but just sayin', you've already dropped $15k:crazy:

The second I've got NO idea on about price but its the HKS supercharger w/ water to air intercooler and what I do know is this:

-makes 79 more hp
-makes 75 ft/lbs more torque

....AND YOU GET TO KEEP YOUR HYBRID SYSTEM!

Now, I'm no position for any of this ofcoarse unless I win the Powerball tonight but the later seems to make more sense IMO, torque is torque. This also being done on an engine that's .5 liter smaller too, although the S/C-er makes it "GROW" If I had to guess the S/C-er installed would be no more than $7500 installed if I had to guess.

I think I solved my lodging problem too..........

Powerball winner tonight gets me this one!

First off, I think splitting up the group is a terrible idea. Like everyone else, I come down for the roads, but I really like the people that have came and now are regulars. The people like Randy, Billy, Dillion, Jim, and Derek who keep me coming back every year.

As far as location I do like CCV and Tellico Plains. Driving the Skyway has been the highlight to my drive these past few years. I feel my car is more suiting for that road, more so than the Dragon, but that is another story. Never had any issues staying there so why mess with a good thing. CCV has gone down for the last few years, but I do think it may be the most accomodating for our run. I feel it's good for what we need, sleep, shower, and fires every night. Next year, we can bring a rake and level out the incline at the entrance.

Not gonna find a rake in my car.

I wouldn't be surprised if my car was lower next year.

I also know brown will end up having his hatch *hopefully* next year and it will be slammed as well.

I would hope if you won thhe powerball you would have a CRZ that closely resembled a 458 Italia.

It would be a yellow 458 for sure and I would cheat on my Corvette love affair with that car all day long

It is a "hot" car

Its "smoldering" infact

As far as staying at CCV, I agree with Hectour's points completely and as far as the entrance to the cabins, well, I can talk to Dixie about that, I'm sure she can get someone to come out there and take care of that for us, shouldn't be that hard or expensive to repair. As far as the interior of the cabins, well, is really "that" bad? With the size of our group this year and what its going to end up being next year, well, we need room and CCV has that and then some, I mean we could have a carshow there with all that room. Everything we need is right there in town, forget about bad service at one place, there's other places to go to.

Cost is also something to consider and Dixie took care of us on our cabin for sure, we got it for $240 for the 3 nights, can't beat that, especially for the cabin we had. Keeping costs down is also something to take into consideration and there again, don't know if another place is going to be able to match CCV there either, not to mention all the room we've got.

If there's a place closer to the Dragon that can match all the pluses that CCV has going for it, let's talk about it.

It ain't the Ritz Carlton, it's a damn cabin in the woods. There are nice hotels in Knoxville, Gatlinburg, hell even Robbinsville has a few. We stayed at the damn casino in Cherokee, that was a classy f'n joint, like marble floors n sh it. Best part was no chupacabras!!
