okay heres the deal, im putting two new tens in my car and right now i have a pc2400 amp it puts out 200 RMS per channel, i wanted to buy subs around 400 RMS in hope of buying a bigger amp in the future.

so my question is will two underpowered subs be just as loud as two subs with 200 RMS ?

any help you guys can give me will be awesome.

so if my amp has 200 watt RMS per channel , then i need 200 watt subs?, or can i use say 300 watt subs and be okay?

Some subs it can be harmful to not provide them with enough power, most average consumer subs don't fall into that category, more performance subs that you find not in your regular retail store apply to this... What you'll find is that overpowering a sub/s is far worse than under powering it.

Long story short, yes your subs will be fine with your current amp setup, just make sure you hookit up right. I applaude the planning for future setup...

In short its fine to use 400rms subs on a 200rms amp. Just do not crank the gain up, and do not turn the volume way up as most audio n00bs do. The distorted signal will blow your subs eventually and possibly blow your amp from over heating.

thanks for the help guys.. im going to look for some subs in the 400-500 rms range, i plan on getting a bigger amp soon so but i think mine will be fine for now.. as far as subs there are so many brands out there.

any suggestions on what type of 10" subs i can get with around 4 to 500 Rms for a reasonable price?

Just do your research. BestBuy, CircuitCity, Newegg.com, all have a decent selection. Look for db ratings and the such. Also Newegg will be much cheaper than the other two.

Just because the amps power output does not equal the subs handling level doesn't mean the signal will be distorted. Just wanted to clarify for any newbies.

I'm going to add Crutchfield.com to this list as well. It definitely pays to do the research before you buy.

I'm going to add http://www.elementaldesigns.com to this adventure...

Some off the top of my head...
- JL
- Audiobahn
- MTX
- Rockford Fosgate
- Pioneer
- Kenwood
- Infinity
- XXX
- Alpine

What ever you do, please don't get anything like Pyramid, Pyle, Fusion, Insignia, Dynex, Dual...... cheap crap like that... Remember you get what you pay for....

i just bought two 10" MTX thunder subs offline, 400 RMS, im going to start building my box so hopefully it will be done next week, ill be sure to get some pictures up when im done, thanks for all the help guys.

IIRC onlinecarstereo.com kills the prices of any websites you guys listed.. plus free shipping >$100 order.

That is.. unless you know a guy who works at BB or CC who will get you employee discounts ;)

I'm biased but if you want a sub that can take ridiculous power.. look at the alpine type r's.. rated at 500RMS, but tons of people run almost double that with no problems.
