Dear Fellow Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois Contour fanatics. I bought some 17 inch SVT rims which I am going to put onb my SE. I would like your Expert Opionions on what brand and or size tire to mount on them.
I have read the threads but I fiquired you all would have better input since we all live in the same area. I don't Autocross or things like that. Basically I drive from the East Side of Madison to Portage and back every day on I-90/I-39. (I LOVE the Giant S Turn going from I-39 to I-90.)
I want a tire that has low noise and is good in wet weather. I will keep the original 15's for snowy days. So what's best 215/50/17, 215/45/17 or 225/45/17? Also, what brand?

Sincerely,

Johnny T.

P.S. Not to be a pest but when I go to this meet, I will try not to be "Nosey" but I am interesested in what Intakes everyone is running and where you purchased them. I will also consider buying a used intake if anyone has one to sell.

I'd go with a 225-45-17.. I have it right now and i love the way it looks! i have a stock SVT intake for sale.. and for road noise.. its up to you.. my dunlops have very little road noise but they are sucky in the rain.. my kuhmos that i had were pretty good in my opinion but others said that they were horrible for hooking up off the line... I'd say look on tire rack and see what you want then go out to Bristol tire.. in Bristol WI.. they have the best prices i've seen for tires and install..

best performing summer tire I ever owned was BFG KDW G-Force 2's... those were so sticky in any weather... LOVED them...

Next best tire I ever owned was Prada Spec 2's - all around good tire and even got me home in 18 inches of snow in a freak storm where I was coming home from a show in Iowa.. I was one of the only cars on the road and made it in summer tires.. WHOOT! I was one lucky beotch!

I have Kumho's now.. they do the job but they are nothing special... I got a set of Dunlops new line "Fierce" in the garage for M!key's car but havent installed them yet.

if you can afford the KDW's get them... I was lucky enough to land a sponsorship for them with the Cougar so thats why I had them... otherwise I would have never been able to afford the 235/35/19 rubber - also they were very quiet.

The KDW's are hott!!

but my fav thus far have been the Bridgestone Potenza RE750
have great grip! Are great through water also. They lasted me 5 summers!! with a trip to the drag strip and a weekend at Gingerman.

I have a spare 16 incher that I need to sell... I swear its this exact model and has about 90% tread left... its directional right?

it was the 1 odd man out on one of the SVT's I bought... we pulled it off and kept it because it was almost brand new.

Yes it is directional, I would get it from you but unfortunately mine are bald. I have to buy my new set this month. But for ****s and giggles what size is it? I like 225/50/16

Yokohama Parada spec 2's Awesome dry weather grip. I had to push the car to the limits on the street that I was comfortable with to even get the car to start sliding around. Good wet weather traction when the front end was aligned properly. Forget about it in the snow though. Reasonable price too.

hey I made it home in over 18 inches with those Spec2's... granted I was moving at about 15-20 miles per hour though. LOL

that was one long ass drive home from Nebraska to Wisconsin!!!
