I am in need of some SVT contour help. I have a 98 csvt with a myriad of issues. Most I can live with and can be fixed over time(air conditioning not working) as well as others. However this morning was a first. It has been starting a little rough(and clears up after about 5-10 seconds) and does this only when starting cold-not warmed up so( I just stayed up late last night checking the pump screen-it was fine) so I know it is not the screen...but it completely died on me in rush hour traffic on a major highway-then started again ran fine for a moment -cut out-then came back-then died and I had to have it towed. When upon arrival at home it started. I replicated the situation and it seems to happen when it gets to operating temp/I think? as it died in my developement after I drove it around. The IAB valve has just started to hang the idle at 1500 and falls ocassionally and I had to replace my TPS sensor as that went bad this week as well. I am going to clean my valve today but does this sound like a coil(by the way no cel at all-and it does turn over-I have checked my fuel pressure and it is fine-but when it dies-I go to start and no spark!.) Does the 98 SVT have a Ignition control module??and if so where? The parts houses list a part but after the TPS fiasco(had to go to Ford for the part) I really do not trust them so help-please!! I am so close to losing my head over the problems with this car. I am ok with stuff as long as it gets me to work-but it is of no use to me if it does not even do that. I just want it right_Mike

You might want to check your fuel filter. Random "dyings" on the road are a symptom of a clogged/old fuel filter

Run some RxP through your engine (you can find it at autozone) to clean your injectors

How old are your spark plugs?

I know I was having starting issues whenever my ignition control came just slightly loose. Its a plastic rectangular shaped device at the back top of your engine and has wires running into it. Make sure it is seated all the way and snapped into place.

Hope this helps!

i have no idea about the no spark condition, but the stalling and starting again, i had this problem too. the plug on top of the fuel pump was fried. the ground terminal was chared. i scraped the terminal with a knife to get everything clean for a good connection. car ran fine ever since. hope this might help.

New plugs-new fuel filter-pump is cycling. I did a spark test(timing light with no spark when it happens). Ignition control module-back of the motor/top(attached to the intake?? I removed the coil and am looking-am I blind?-

How many miles on the SVT? Ignition Control Module only for 1995 models. You have an Ignition Coil and that is the box next to the firewall.

It is a 98 CSVT(Just replaced the coil and it seems to have cured it as I got to work this morning). Engine has 64000 miles- also-Upon cold start up it runs like it has a miss for about 6-10 seconds and then it clears up. It is fine when warmed up(I have replased the fuel filter as well as the screen on the pump-I have also run cleaner through the efi system-new plugs(autolite xtreme performance platinum) and it has new motorcraft wires as well as a new tps and I just cleaned out the IAB yesterday. I am running out of cheap options. I throws no codes so any suggestion will hels-

I replaced my plugs with Boschs at the requisite 100K km. Ran like poop. Asked a mechanic friend of mine - he suggested I fork over for factory issue Motorcrafts. I can't tell you why or guarantee that it'll fix your problem, but it fixed mine!
Or at least it fixed THAT issue.
