Since we are about a month away, I figured I would put some tips out there for the new guys/reminders for everyone else that has been out there.

First and foremost, remember these are public roads that are we on. We are doing "spirited" driving these roads. It is NOT a race. You need to be responsible on these roads. There is no room for error. We haven't ever had a wreck and everyone has been able to drive home. I don't think we want to start. There will also be traffic on these roads. Always look ahead!

A few tips/reminders:

1. ALWAYS keep a safe distance from the person in front of you. Here, you never know when you may have to stop.

2. Don't ever cross the double yellow. There WILL be bikers on the roads and some like riding really close to the double yellow. Also NEVER pass on the double yellow. We've had people in the past do this in our group. It will not be tolerated.

3. Keep your headlights on. There are a lot of shady/sunny transitions and it helps everyone on the road see you.

4. Drive within your limits/your car's limits. There is no need to be a hero here. We are all here to enjoy these roads that literally exist no where in this country.

My suggestion for some of the new guys and even us veterans (since we are driving some new roads this time around) is take it easy the first time on each road. Get a feel for the road, the curves, road conditions, etc. Most of the roads we will run multiple times.

Also a few things you may want to bring:

1. 2-way radio
2. Tire pressure gauge
3. Small tire compressor ( I know Roger will have one)
4. Fluids (oil, power steering fluid, etc)
5. Folding seats
6. Misc. tools you may need. I always bring some.
7. Camera...of course!

all very good tips.

something else to add to the list of things you might want to bring is a camera. we usually stop in various places along the way and get some group photos of the cars/drivers. I will also have a bag of misc tools (no extra tires this time:laugh:) as well as an extra 2-way radio or two.

I was going to add camera....but I thought that was a given.

Hectour completely nailed it, I agree 100%!

The 2-way radio's will be a MUST this year as the group is going to be the largest ever. I'm even wondering if we should split the groups up into 2, one leaving and the other leaving 15 minutes later, this way we don't get all bunched up. We can meet up at the usual spots, but I'm just throwing this out there:shrug:

Everyone should write down Hectours checklist and make sure you've got everything on that list if possible!

Hector forgot to add leather gloves to the list. You guys may also want to bring a spare set of leather driving gloves in case you pee on your first set.

Maybe I should up the ante this year and get the goggles and a scarf to match. That would look awesome with the top down.

If ross goes. Dont follow him your first few times. Its fruitless. Also if you run the dragon at night time be very cautious of wildlife.

I didn't actually pee I ON them, I pee while WEARING them and then dug into my bag of pretzels and offered JD some w/o thinking of what I was doing with them on. You see they become a part of me while I'm down there, right down to the black dye that gets on my hand while their sweating. I need a STIG helmet to use while I'm down there, don't think I'd wear it....

I know you didn't pee on them. I was just saying it would be good to bring a backup pair in case you peed on them. Peeing with gloves on is riskier than you may think!

Hey, let's put this banter in the other thread and keep this one for the essentials like...

2 WAY RADIOS WITH FRESH BATTERIES!I know we covered that earlier but with the size of this group, its VERY important!

We'll lets continue our banter in the other thread

Chup and Biggy are real!

But...Please follow these guidlines. Walkie Talkies will help you out more then anything...Also keeping your CSVT/Troll fully oiled and etc. Watch out for wildlife at night..

Motorola talkabouts are good radios. You can pick them up at radioshack for like 30 bucks. Ill be bringing mine. Ill also be bringing all my camera equipment.

i would also suggest a headset for the radio. i had moments where i wanted to say something but had my hands on the wheel. an earpiece would make it easier to hear what is said. i had trouble hearing my radio unless i held it by my ear

I clip mine on the seatbelt right on my shoulder and you can hear it pretty good as long as your not behind Daniel
