Since we are about a month away, I figured I would put some tips out there for the new guys/reminders for everyone else that has been out there.
First and foremost, remember these are public roads that are we on. We are doing "spirited" driving these roads. It is NOT a race. You need to be responsible on these roads. There is no room for error. We haven't ever had a wreck and everyone has been able to drive home. I don't think we want to start. There will also be traffic on these roads. Always look ahead!
A few tips/reminders:
1. ALWAYS keep a safe distance from the person in front of you. Here, you never know when you may have to stop.
2. Don't ever cross the double yellow. There WILL be bikers on the roads and some like riding really close to the double yellow. Also NEVER pass on the double yellow. We've had people in the past do this in our group. It will not be tolerated.
3. Keep your headlights on. There are a lot of shady/sunny transitions and it helps everyone on the road see you.
4. Drive within your limits/your car's limits. There is no need to be a hero here. We are all here to enjoy these roads that literally exist no where in this country.
My suggestion for some of the new guys and even us veterans (since we are driving some new roads this time around) is take it easy the first time on each road. Get a feel for the road, the curves, road conditions, etc. Most of the roads we will run multiple times.
Also a few things you may want to bring:
1. 2-way radio
2. Tire pressure gauge
3. Small tire compressor ( I know Roger will have one)
4. Fluids (oil, power steering fluid, etc)
5. Folding seats
6. Misc. tools you may need. I always bring some.
7. Camera...of course!
